Stewards accepted the explanation provided by trainer J. Pointon for the late declaration of L. Dillon as the rider of ZEDITAVE’S LAD.
As M. Usher was injured and unable to fulfil his engagement on ALEXABAR, and as there was no available rider for MISS ALLYKAT, both horses were declared late scratchings at 12pm.
Stewards in consultation with trainer M. Attard permitted A. Coome to ride 1.5 kilograms overweight on CLASSY COUGAR when there was no available rider who could ride the horse at or closer to the allotted weight.
UKOK LASS (S. McGovern) was reluctant to leave the enclosure and proceed to the barriers. Trainer P. Camilleri was advised that a warning would be placed on the mare.
The start was delayed when COUNTRYWIDE (A. Taylor) broke through the barriers. The horse was quickly restrained, returned behind the barriers, inspected by the veterinary surgeon and cleared to race.
UKOK LASS (S. McGovern) jumped outwards at the start and when corrected, shifted in and hampered BLAZE AWAY (C. Pye).
ZEDITAVE’S LAD (L. Dillon) was slow to begin.
BACK TO WIN (A. Pattillo) raced 3 wide for the majority of the event.
Stewards inquired into an incident which occurred near the 900m. After taking evidence from C. Pye, rider of BLAZE AWAY, S. Sheargold, rider of SUIME ROSE, and A. Pattillo, rider of BACK TO WIN, it was established that SUIME ROSE, lay out across the heels of BACK TO WIN which had laid in slightly at that stage, clipped heels, caused the rider to became unbalanced and the mare lost ground. Stewards did not attribute blame for this incident to any one rider and therefore deemed it a racing incident. As a consequence, when SUIME ROSE shifted out, DUAN THEO (R. Wiggins) and RICORDO (C. McIver) were inconvenienced and raced wide for the remainder of the race.
BLAZE AWAY shifted ground in the straight, and near the 100 metres, when it continued to shift ground, COUNTRYWIDE was momentarily tightened for racing room.
ROSIE THE MAID (D. Missen) lay in over the final 100 metres.
CLASSY COUGAR lost its near fore plate in running.
A post race veterinary examination of SUIME ROSE revealed the mare to be exhibiting soreness across its back, both front legs and shoulders. The mare was treated by the veterinary surgeon. A veterinary certificate will be required for SUIME ROSE prior to its race start.
Race 3: XXXX Summer Bright Class 3 Handicap- 1050 metres
1st So Pretentious 2nd Flying Tequila 3rd Rytarga 4th- Princely
HALLOWED PEARL (S. Sheargold) began awkwardly.
At the start, MISTABLISTA (A. Coome) was tightened for room between SO PRETENTIOUS (T. Bannon) and TEDIKA (C. Pye) both of which shifted ground.
Near the 900m, HALLOWED PEARL improved into restricted room inside SO PRETNETIOUS, and near the 800m became unbalanced when steadied from the heels of that horse.
TEDIKA, RYTARGA (S. McGovern) and PRINCELY (R. Wiggins) raced wide throughout.
Stewards sought an explanation from A. Pattillo regarding the performance of SCAPA. He advised that he was instructed to position the horse where comfortable, however after being a little slow to begin, SCAPA raced at the rear of the field where he shifted inwards and took up a position close to the rail. A. Pattillo further stated that when placed under pressure from the 400m, SCAPA failed to improve its position.
A post race veterinary examination of HALLOWED PEARL did not reveal any significant abnormalities. Trainer L. Rowe reported that he suspected the filly may have pulled muscles in its hind quarters and would now be sent for a lengthy spell.
Race 4: Rockhampton Jockey Club Open Handicap- 1500 metres
1st Writer 2nd Beautiful Timing 3rd Paris Boy 4th- Dubaione
FORADE (D. Tanti) jumped awkwardly inwards at the start onto MR NICHOLAS (J. Kropp), which in turn hampered BEAUTIFUL TIMING (A. Pattillo), which was awkwardly placed on the heels of PARIS BOY (R. Wiggins) for a short distance after the start.
MR NICHOLAS raced 3 wide for the majority of the race.
BEAUTIFUL TIMING lay in under pressure over the final 200m.

LIBERTY’S MAGIC (A. Pattillo) jumped outwards at the start, and made contact with BREAK OF DAWN (R. Wiggins), which had been slow into stride.
Leaving the 1300m, TREPAN commenced to race fiercely when restrained and pulled hard until obtaining the lead near the 1000m.
Stewards sought an explanation regarding the performance of BREAK OF DAWN. Jockey Wiggins explained the gelding raced flat in his opinion and was not entirely suited by the tempo of the race. He believed BREAK OF DAWN may have come to the end of its preparation. Trainer W. Pomfrett confirmed the gelding would now be spelled. A post race veterinary examination of BREAK OF DAWN failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.
BLAZING LION lost its off hind plate in running.
Race 7: Hahn Super Dry 3.5 Class 1 Handicap- 1200 metres

Pending further submissions, a fine of $100 will be imposed on trainer C. Tasker for failing to submit a amended stable return for AGNATIC.

The start of this race was delayed when AGNATIC was reluctant to proceed to the barriers. A warning was placed on AGNATIC.
AGNATIC (A. Taylor) and MINUS ONE (S. Sheargold) were slow to begin.
Near the 900m, CHICAMONI (L. Dillon) was buffeted between GAMBLE IN GOLD (R. Wiggins) and DUNKIT (D. Missen). CHICAMONI then commenced to lay out and was steadied from the heels of DUNKIT.

BEARHART GOLD (S. Sheargold) began awkwardly out and made contact with PICCOLO LATTE (S. McGovern).
CRAIGLEA GAL (M. Hellyer) raced 3 wide throughout.
Apprentice C. Pye reported that the saddle on MULE FORTY SIX slipped back shortly after the start, and near the 400 metres when she placed the gelding under pressure, was disadvantaged in riding the gelding out.
Stewards sought an explanation regarding the performance of MUNDI GULLY. Apprentice Taylor stated she was instructed to ride the gelding forward from the start in an endeavour to lead and not to be caught wide. She further stated the MUNDI GULLY worked hard from the wide alley and, in her opinion, this told on the gelding and when placed under pressure near the 500 metres, the horse commenced to yield ground. A post race veterinary examination of MUNDI GULLY revealed a poor post-race recovery. In light of today’s performance, stewards will seek a report from Trainer J. Green regarding the condition of MUNDI GULLY.
