SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT- 29th DECEMBER 2011- Race 8
Stable Foreman G. Green advised MUNDI GULLY has pulled up well subsequent to this race. Mr Green was of the opinion that been ridden forward as instructed had been detrimental to the horse’s performance and advised it was the intention to have MUNDI GULLY ridden off the pace in future.
GENERAL
Stewards heard statements from M Jackson, an unlicensed person, and Strapper Ms M. Ladbrook regarding an incident that occurred while the field paraded in the enclosure and prior to the running of Race 3. A report will be forwarded to Racing Queensland.
Race 1: XXXX Gold Maiden Handicap- 1200 metres
1st Viva Forte 2nd Kilwinning Luck 3rd Moon Guide 4th- Happy Hooligan
Trainer D. Gardiner was fined $100 for failing to declare a rider for GRANNY MCPHEE by the prescribed time.
Jockey S. McGovern was reprimanded for arriving late on course.
ROCK D’OR (L. Dillon) jumped outwards at the start and made contact with JUNGLE WOMAN (T. Bannon), which lost ground.
GRANNY MCPHEE (C. Pye) jumped away awkwardly.
Near the 900m, HAPPY HOOLIGAN (K. Gates) rolled in, which resulted in ROCK D’OR being eased and STROMGLAD (J. Stanley) being tightened for room to the inside of HAPPY HOOLIGAN and as a result had to be steadied.
Near the 100m, MOON GUIDE (A. Pattillo) lay in which caused FLYING HIGH (A. Coome) to shift in and away from that horse and caused STROMGLAD to be hampered.
AL GHAZI (J. Kropp) and VIVA FORTE (S. McGovern) raced wide throughout.
Race 2: Callaghan Park QTIS 3YO Maiden Handicap- 1050 metres
1st Imma Be 2nd I’ll Have You Know 3rd Brace For Impact 4th- Back To Win
Jockey C. McIver was reprimanded for being dually engaged on REGAL SHREDDER and PRINCESS RODBORO. T. Bannon was subsequently replaced as the rider of PRINCESS RODBORO.
REGAL SHREDDER (C. McIver) was difficult to load.
REGAL SHREDDER jumped awkwardly and made contact with the barrier partition.
BRACE FOR IMPACT (K. Gates) was slow to begin.
SURNOMA ROSE (C. Priest) and BACK TO WIN (J. Kropp) made contact shortly after the start.
Near the 800m, BACK TO WIN bumped SURNOMA ROSE in, which required C. Priest, rider of SURNOMA ROSE, to steady from the heels of MINARDI MAGIC (J. Stanley).
Leaving the 600m, BOARDWALK DANCER (L. Dillon) shifted out and bumped ALL TO ADVANCE (A. Coome).
From the 600m, MAZOT (S. Sheargold) lay in until near the 400 metres. At this stage, the gelding appeared to be struck over the nose by the whip of L. Dillon, rider of BOARDWALK DANCER.
MINARDI MAGIC and SURNOMA ROSE raced wide throughout.
Stewards sought an explanation regarding the performance and tactics of BACK TO WIN which raced extremely wide throughout. Apprentice Kropp stated he was instructed to go forward from the wide barrier, and after beginning well he attempted to comply with these instructions however SURNOMA ROSE improved to his inside and he was unable to restrain to obtain cover and was unable to pressure his mount forward to obtain a position closer to the rail with cover. Stewards noted the explanation.
Stewards also sought an explanation regarding the improved performance of IMMA BE. Trainer A. Stephens stated that the gelding had not appreciated the quick back up in its previous two starts, and that IMMA BE had been freshened up for today’s event and a forward showing was expected as the gelding performed well in the past when drawing favourable barriers.
Race 3: XXXX Summer Bright BM79 Handicap- 1050 metres
1st Rogerrab 2nd Fanciful 3rd Lambert 4th- Columate
Jockey A. Lane reported ill and was replaced by A. Pattillo on LAMBERT.
Apprentice C. Priest was reprimanded for negligence after presenting to ride wearing incorrect colours for ROGERRAB.
FANCIFUL (L. Dillon) was slow to begin.
ROGERRAB (C. Priest) jumped inwards at the start onto COLUMATE (C. McIver), which in turn was taken in onto SCHRAPNEL GULLY (A. Coome).
Trainer T. Cook reported SCHRAPNEL GULLY had exhibited signs of heat stress on pulling up.
Stewards sought an explanation regarding the improved performance of ROGERRAB. Trainer W. Pomfrett explained that the gelding had been freshened up since its previous start and had light training leading into today’s event. He added that he was of the opinion the weight carried in today’s class of race was a contributing factor in the improved performance.
Race 4: Rockhampton Jockey Club Class 5 Handicap- 1400 metres
1st Mule Forty Six 2nd Mr Nicholas 3rd Zenacity 4th- Piccolo
OUR MAIKAI (L. Dillon) was slow to begin.
MAGIC PEARL (J. Stanley) bounded in the air at the start.
From the 1000m until near the 900m, HAPPY NOW (K. Gates) raced fiercely when MR NICHOLAS (S. Sheargold) improved to its outside.
Near the 600m, OUR MAIKAI rolled out and was steadied from the heels of HAPPY NOW.
From the 400m, OUR MAIKAI was inclined to lay in and continued to do so over the concluding stages on a number of occasions.
Race 5: XXXX Bitter Class 3 Plate- 1100 metres
1st Don’t You Worry 2nd Marmillion 3rd Rytarga 4th- Craiglea Fighter
ALEXABAR (K. Gates) jumped awkwardly and made contact with contact with the barrier partition.
PRIVATE CHAT (C. Pye) was inclined to race ungenerously in the middle stages.
CRAIGLEA FIGHTER (T. Bannon) and ALEXABAR raced wide throughout.
Jockey J. Stanley reported that DUNKIT had failed to stretch out at any stage of the event. A post race veterinary examination of DUNKIT failed to reveal any significant abnormalities. Stewards intend to contact trainer N. Mannion regarding the horse’s condition and further racing program.
Trainer C. Garland reported he was disappointed in the performance of LIBERTY TYCOON and may spell the gelding.
Race 6: Become a Member of the RJC Class 1 Handicap- 970 metres
1st Rare Find 2nd Saintly Lady 3rd Click Up 4th- High Payoff
A. Pattillo was substituted as the rider of COURALLIE STAR for the indisposed A. Lane.
COURALLIE STAR (A. Pattillo) made heavy contact with gate on leaving the enclosure. On arrival at the barriers, the mare underwent a veterinary examination and subsequently was declared a late scratching acting on veterinary advice at 4.02pm when the mare exhibited some lameness in its off hind.
Stewards ordered all monies invest on COURALLIE STAR be refunded with the following deductions to apply to successful wagers as follows
For bets placed on the winner and placegetters prior to 4.02 pm:
11 cent in the dollar for the winner RARE FIND
11 cents in the dollar for the place of the winner RARE FIND
12 cents in the dollar for 2nd place SAINTLY LADY
10 cents in the dollar for 3rd place HIGH PAYOFF
AMANDAS DREAM (S. Sheargold) and DANNI’S IMPACT (K. Gates) began awkwardly.
J. Stanley reported that MAKE A DEAL had lost its footing at the start. It was observed that MAKE A DEAL had jumped away awkwardly.
MAKE A DEAL when raced ungenerously near the 900m had to be steadied from the heels of RED SEA (J. Kropp).
Near the 600m, MAKE A DEAL was awkwardly placed on the heels of RARE FIND (N. Patchett) and shifted inwards.
Leaving the 800m, GASPARA (S. McGovern) hung out and made the home turn wide and then race wide for the remainder of the race. Trainer F. Smith will be advised the filly must trail satisfactorily over a distance further than 800m prior to its next race start. A post race veterinary examination of GASPARA failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.
For a short distance leaving the 200m, WARDEN BEN (A. Taylor) was held up on the heels of HIGH PAYOFF (T. Bannon), which was inclined to lay in.
RARE FIND (N. Patchett) was inclined to lay in over the final 100m.
RED SEA and MAKE A DEAL raced wide for the majority of the event.
Race 7: Hahn Super Dry 3.5 Class 2 Handicap- 1300 metres
1st Down Another Track 2nd Morongla 3rd Heritage Star 4th- Checker Champ
The start of this race was delayed to await the finish of an interstate galloping event.
The start was further delayed when CHECKER CHAMP reared in the barriers. CHECKER CHAMP was removed from the gates, examined by the veterinary surgeon and cleared to take its place in the field. The start was again delayed when BOTH, which was fractious, was also removed, examined by the veterinary surgeon and subsequently cleared to take its place in the field.
CARRY THE MING (J. Kropp) jumped outwards at the start and made heavy contact with HERITAGE STAR (C. Pye). At the same stage, CHECKER CHAMP (S. McGovern) jumped inwards and cause HERITAGE STAR to be further inconvenienced.
HERITAGE STAR lay in under pressure from approximately the 400m.
L. Dillon, rider of DOWN ANOTHER TRACK, dropped his whip near the 400m.
PEBS MAGIC (C. McIver) and JAMDIT (D. Whitmore) raced wide throughout.
Stewards sought an explanation regarding the performance of GALAXY STALKER. Jockey J. Stanley stated that the gelding was resuming from a break and had travelled well, however he felt that the gelding’s fitness began to give from the 600m and GALAXY STALKER failed to respond as expected and did not race up to expectations. A post race veterinary examination of GALAXY STALKER failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.
