Race 5 - Trainer M. Attard reported that CLASSY COUGAR had been galloped on on its off hind leg.

Race 1: Bank of Queensland North Rockhampton Class 2 Handicap - 1600 metres
1st Rockbel 2nd Checker Champ 3rd Beaux Strata 4th- Speed Magician

GHIACCIO (C. Pye) jumped out on to WILL’N’GUS (L. Finlay).

Near the 1200m BEAUX STRATA (M. Hellyer), which was racing ungenerously, was steadied from the heels of PEBS MAGIC (C. McIver), which shifted in.

Near the 500m GHIACCIO attempted to improve inside WILL’N’GUS which rolled in slightly and caused GHIACCIO to be held up for a short distance.

Race 2: Lacey’s 4X4 Megastore Class 3 Handicap – 970 metres
1st Mossetarsi 2nd Top Messiah 3rd Zahmao 4th- Golden Qualo

The start of this race was delayed to allow an interstate harness event to be televised.

As the start was effected ALIENTO (S. McGovern) reared and lost considerable ground.

Stewards inquired into an incident approaching the 800m. After taking evidence from L. Finlay (TOP MESSIAH), M. Hellyer (NERANGATANG), S. Sheargold (TEDIKA) and A. Taylor (FLYING TEQUILA), stewards established that TOP MESSIAH had improved rapidly to the outside of NERANGATANG whilst shifting in, and at which time NERANGTANG lay in and away despite the efforts of the rider and dictated TEDIKA in on to FLYING TEQUILA which clipped heels, blundered and lost ground. In the opinion of stewards, bearing in mind the racing manners of NERANGATANG, they could not be satisfied that L. Finlay could be held solely responsible and deemed it to be a racing incident.

Stewards inquired into jockey L. Finlay’s riding of TOP MESSIAH over the concluding stages. Jockey Finlay pleaded guilty to a charge under AR.137 (b) in that he had failed to ride TOP MESSIAH out approaching the end of the race. Stewards were of the opinion that his actions had cost TOP MESSIAH first place and after consideration was given to jockey Finlay’s submissions and mitigating circumstances, L. Finlay’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 6 meetings, with the term of suspension to commence at the conclusion of a suspension incurred at Eagle Farm on 1 February, being from Sunday, 19 February, up to and including 26 February 2012.

A post-race veterinary examination of ALIENTO revealed no abnormalities.

Race 3: Motel 98/Cassidy’s Seafood & Steakhouse Class 6 Handicap - 1200 metres

LEFT BEHIND (C. Priest) raced three wide throughout.

Stewards will seek an explanation regarding the improved performance of ROVERT from trainer R. McCall.

Following this event the track rating was upgraded to GOOD (3), retrospective to this race.

Race 4: O’Dowds Irish Pub Maiden Plate - 1100 metres
1st Samski 2nd Testya Time 3rd Dangar Diva 4th- Lady From Mossman

Stewards accepted the explanation tendered by trainer D. Critch in relation to the late declaration of N. Patchett as the rider of MINARDI MAGIC.

NIQUALO (D. Simmons) was slow to begin and lost ground.

SAVE THE CITY (T. O’Hara) began a little awkwardly.

ALYICHI (J. Kropp) jumped out and made contact with CYRIL’S DRAGON (D. Tanti) after it had begun awkwardly.

In the early stages of the straight DANGAR DIVA (A. Taylor) had difficulty obtaining clear running.

BLOOMSDAY (L. Finlay) was inclined to shift ground in the straight and near the 100m rolled in and tightened SAVE THE CITY on to CYRIL’S DRAGON, which was taken across the heels of OUR BUSH LAWYER (C. Pye).

Race 5: Prydes Easifeeds QTIS 3YO Handicap - 1100 metres

IMMA BE and PRIVATE CHAT (A. Taylor) raced wide throughout.

Near the 200m CASHED UP BULLY (D. Tanti) commenced to lay in and continued to do so over the concluding stages.

Race 6: Sam’s Fencing F&M Class 1 Handicap - 1200 metres
1st Blondeshavemorefun 2nd Delargo Scene 3rd Winchmore Lass 4th- Fav Four

As T. Bannon had been stood down, D. Tanti was the replacement rider for FAV FOUR.

LOOKING AT LACE (A Pattillo), which was fractious in the barriers prior to the start being effected, began awkwardly.

MARIA ROSA (J. Kropp) jumped out at the start and took PURO SANGUE out on to BLONDESHAVEMOREFUN (C. McIver), which lost some ground.

Near the 200m DELARGO SCENE (A. Taylor) shifted out to obtain clear running and bumped heavily with FAV FOUR (D. Tanti).

Stewards inquired into the performance of COURALLIE STAR and jockey A. Lane’s riding of that mare in the straight. Stewards adjourned this matter to a date and time to be fixed and will obtain betting information on the race.

Stewards sought an explanation regarding the performance of BINGO BETTY. Jockey L. Dillon explained that he was not overly disappointed in the performance today given that the mare had been freshened up after its previous win and may be lacking fitness at this stage and would take benefit from today’s run.

Stewards sought an explanation regarding the apparently improved performance of BLONDESHAVEMOREFUN (C. McIver). Trainer T. Cook explained that the mare had been freshened up and was not suited by the tight track at its previous start. He said that he had added a tongue tie for today’s engagement and the horse had been working well since returning to training and he had expected a forward showing, however added that the horse was not supported on this occasion.

Race 7: Touch C,G&E Class 1 Handicap - 1200 metres

MORE SCOTCH raced wide throughout.

Race 8: XXXX Gold Class 4 Handicap - 1400 metres
1st Marmillion 2nd Heritage Star 3rd Measured 4th- Bearhart Gold

EASY CASH (A. Taylor) was slow to begin.

Stewards sought an explanation in regard to the performance of EASY CASH. Apprentice Taylor explained that on its previous performance she had considered the gelding a chance in today’s event, however whilst it had enjoyed a comfortable run throughout it had not performed to expectations after being placed under pressure near the 600m and had failed to respond to her riding. A post-race veterinary examination of EASY CASH revealed no abnormalities and a swab sample was taken.
