1st CRAIGLEA CONVICT 2nd JAD 3rd SNORKEL 4th - COLUMATE
From the 500 metres MARTIROS (S. Sheargold) commenced to lay in, and near the 200 metres lost its off-side front hoof pad.
Jockey A. Pattillo reported that SNORKEL failed to sprint on the rain-affected surface.
A post-race veterinary examination of LITTLE FOOTSTEPS (T. Bannon) revealed that the gelding was lame in the off foreleg. LITTLE FOOTSTEPS was treated by the veterinary surgeon and trainer J. Manzelmann's representative was advised that a veterinary clearance will be required prior to the gelding being permitted to race again.
Race 3: XXXX Summer Bright QTIS 600 2YO Handicap- 1200 metres
1st MAXIMUM COMMAND 2nd CRAIGLEA CARINA 3rd BLACKJACK DAVEY 4th - ZEROCITY
OVER THE BAY (App. C. Priest), BLACKJACK DAVEY (S. Sheargold) and MAXIMUM COMMAND (L. Dillon) proved difficult to load into the barriers.
ZEROCITY (R. Goltz) began awkwardly.
At the start BLACKJACK DAVEY (S. Sheargold) shifted in, and took OVER THE BAY (App. C. Priest) in onto PLATINUM PEAKS (D. Gill), which was tightened for room and shifted in onto RAMBUNCTIOUS BOY (T. O'Hara) which had jumped out.
BLACK ALICE (A. Pattillo), which had been slow to begin, raced ungenerously when restrained in the middle stages.
RAMBUNCTIOUS BOY over raced for a short distance in the middle stages.
When asked to explain the seemingly disappointing performance of PLATINUM PEAKS, Jockey D. Gill stated that after being hampered at the start the filly did not handle the rain-affected track conditions, failed to let down and raced flat. Jockey Gill was of the opinion that the filly may be coming to the end of its preparation.
Following the race Jockey Missen was stood down from his remaining engagements due to illness and substitutions were made as per the Stewards Summary Sheet. Jockey Missen was directed to supply a medical clearance prior to his next riding engagements.
Race 4: Capricornia Yearling Sale 1 April QTIS 2YO Maiden Handicap- 1100 metres
1st HIDDEN PRAYER 2nd GLITZERLAND 3rd VAL’S BULL 4th - CAUGHT ELOPING
The start was delayed when HOODED DESTINY (D. Gill) had to be resaddled behind the barriers.
On jumping, HIDDEN PRAYER (B. Stewart) shifted in abruptly and made heavy contact with ZARREKA (N. Patchett), which was severely inconvenienced and taken in onto SUSPICIOUS MISS (T. O'Hara), which was badly hampered and lost ground.
IRIANA WIL (D. Simmons) began awkwardly and made contact with PETRONI (App. C. Pye).
Approaching the 900 metres PETRONI (App. C. Pye) improved onto the heels of HE'S A TERROR (T. Bannon), was steadied and shifted out.
At the 900 metres ZARREKA (N. Patchett) was steadied to avoid the heels of GLITZERLAND (S. Sheargold), shifted out and took REDOUTE'S POWER (S. McGovern) out, which resulted in that gelding having to be steadied from the heels of MISS NINETY NINE (App. J. Kropp).
Near the 700 metres SUSPICIOUS MISS (T. O'Hara), which raced ungenerously in the middle stages, was steadied from the heels of ZARREKA (N. Patchett), shifted out and took REDOUTE'S POWER (S. McGovern) wider.
Leaving the 400 metres ZARREKA (N. Patchett) shifted out to obtain clear running and in doing so made contact with MISS NINETY NINE (App. J. Kropp), which was taken in by SUSPICIOUS MISS (T. O'Hara), which lay in. As a result ZARREKA became unbalanced and was shifted in to obtain clear running.
Stewards sought an explanation from Jockey D. Simmons for the performance of IRIANA WIL, which tailed the field throughout and was non-competitive. Jockey Simmons stated that after beginning awkwardly the gelding failed to muster early speed and near the 900 metres he became concerned about the horse's welfare. Jockey Simmons said that he considered retiring the gelding from the event, however at that stage IRIANA WIL appeared to become balanced and made some ground thereafter. A post-race veterinary examination of IRIANA WIL did not reveal any significant abnormalities. Trainer A. Jenkinson will be advised that the gelding must perform satisfactorily in a barrier trial prior to being permitted to race again.
Race 5: Rockhampton Jockey Club Maiden Handicap- 1100 metres

The start was delayed to allow for the running of an interstate event.
MISS GARRMOUR (S. McGovern) began awkwardly.
DAVANNA (D. Simmons), which had been attended to by a barrier attendant, reared as the start was effected, began awkwardly and lost ground.
Near the 200 metres CYCLONE STEVE (App. A. Taylor) was momentarily held up on the heels of MISS GARRMOUR (S. McGovern), lay out and made contact with DAVANNA (D. Simmons).

YUN FAT (App. C. Pye) began a little awkwardly.
Near the 700 metres NINEDAYFORTNIGHT (M. Hellyer) hung out, and took TOP MESSIAH (D. Simmons) wider, and both runners raced wide for the remainder of the event.
Leaving the 700 metres YUN FAT (App. C. Pye) lay in momentarily, and obliged its rider to straighten her mount. In the incident RED DASH (A. Pattillo) was taken in slightly, and caused MUNIFICENT (App. A. Taylor) to be tightened, restrained and to lose ground.
Near the 400 metres MAUVE LADY (D. Gill) lost its off side winker.
MOUNTED (R. Goltz) raced wide throuoghout.
Trainer T. Cook reported that on returning to the stables YUN FAT (App. C. Pye) collapsed and was treated by his stable veterinarian. Mr Cook undertook to provide a veterinary report in relation to the matter.
