Race 1: XXXX Gold QTIS 2YO Handicap - 1050 metres
1st BLACKJACK DAVEY 2nd I GET EXCITED 3rd CRAIGLEA TEQUILA 4th - CRAIGLEA STELLAR

When Jockey D. Missen was to be overweight, Jockey A. Coome was substituted as the rider of CRAIGLEA STELLAR. After hearing submissions from Jockey Missen, stewards accepted his explanation and took no further action.

ROCKET WARRIOR (L. Dillon) was slow to begin.

BLACKJACK DAVEY (App. A. Allen) began awkwardly, made contact with RAMBUNCTIOUS BOY (T. O'Hara) and lost ground.

Leaving the 400 metres ROCKET WARRIOR (L. Dillon) shifted out under pressure and inconvenienced RAMBUNCTIOUS BOY (T. O'Hara).

CRAIGLEA TEQUILA (App. K. Matheson) raced wide throughout.

Race 2: Callaghan Park Maiden Handicap - 970 metres
1st SWEET VAMP 2nd MYSTERIOUS MAN 3rd CHAMPAGNE WILLIE 4th - MISHANI ACE

The start was delayed to avoid clashing with the broadcasting of another racing venue that was running late.

At the start CHAMPAGNE WILLIE (App. C. Pye) was severely tightened for room between RE ECHO (S. McGovern), which shifted in, and INTO THE DEEP (A. Pattillo), which was taken out by EZY CHANCE (App. K. Matheson), which began awkwardly.

BLACK GAZELLE (D. Tanti) began awkwardly and lost considerable ground.

EZY CHANCE (App. K. Matheson) raced greenly throughout and at the 600 metres became awkward when obliged to shift away from the heels of SWEET VAMP (A.Coome), which shifted out to obtain clear running.

CHAMPAGNE WILLIE (App. C. Pye), which raced greenly throughout, raced with its head in the air on a number of occasions in the early stages and for a short distance leaving the 800 metres hung out. App.Pye advised stewards that in her opinion the gelding would take benefit from today's race experience.

KING TUDOR (T. O'Hara) raced wide throughout.

Stewards afforded Jockey A. Pattillo the opportunity to comment on the performance of INTO THE DEEP, which raced below market expectations. Jockey Pattillo stated that in his opinion, given that the horse was having its first start from a spell, over a distance that in his opinion was too short for the gelding, he was not dissatisfied with the performance. Jockey Pattillo added that over more ground he would expect a forward showing at its next start.

Race 3: XXXX Summer Bright Maiden Handicap (1) - 1300 metres
1st – RUSH TRIP 2nd MAZOT 3rd THE SKIPPING GIRL 4th - AL GHAZI

Stewards considered an objection lodged by Jockey J. Kropp, the rider of MAZOT which finished second, against RUSH TRIP (D. Missen) being declared first, alleging interference over the concluding stages. After taking evidence from the riders and connections involved, viewing the official patrol film and taking into account their own observations, stewards established that over the concluding stages both RUSH TRIP and MAZOT shifted out under pressure and, in the opinion of the stewards, contact was made between them as they crossed the finishing line. Stewards were therefore confidently satisfied that RUSH TRIP had not caused sufficient interference to MAZOT to warrant a reversal of the placings and in the circumstances stewards dismissed the protest.

Prior to the declaration of correct weight, stewards also considered an objection by Ms L. Applewaite, the trainer of MAZOT, who disputed the photo finish result. After a developed print was provided, Ms Applewaite was satisfied with the judge's placings, and correct weight was declared..

From its wide barrier PESAMINO (App. C. Pye) was restrained in the early stages to take up a position closer to the running rail at the rear of the field.

In the early stages GREENLEA (App. A. Taylor) raced wide before being ridden forward to assume a position outside the lead approaching the 800 metres.

Near the 700 metres QUIRT (App. K. Gates) became unbalanced, shifted in, made contact with the running rail and lost significant ground. RUSH TRIP (D. Missen), which was following, was obliged to shift out to avoid the heels of QUIRT, which resulted in KAZAN (C. McIver) being forced out across the heels of MAZOT (J. Kropp) and having to be checked. Trainer K. Miller was advised that a warning will be placed on the racing manners of QUIRT.

The saddle on RUSH TRIP (D. Missen) slipped back during running.

MAZOT (J. Kropp) raced wide throughout.

Race 4: Rockhampton Jockey Club Maiden Handicap (2) - 1300 metres
1st LADY BULLMORE 2nd PURE MOSCATO 3rd SMOKIN' TIGER 4th – AUSTANA

GLASS HALF FULL (App. C. Pye) was slow to begin.

MIAITSU LASS (App. A. Taylor) began awkwardly and made heavy contact with PEMZOFF (J. Babarovich).

As the start was effected DAVANNA (M. Hellyer) reared and lost considerable ground.

For a short distance approaching the 800 metres SMOKIN' TIGER (D. Tanti) over-raced.

A post-race veterinary examination of MIAITSU LASS (App. A. Taylor), which hung out throughout the event, did not reveal any abnormalities.

Stewards afforded App. C. Pye the opportunity to comment on the performance of GLASS HALF FULL. App. Pye stated that it had been her intention to ride GLASS HALF FULL in a forward position, however after being slow to begin she was forced to race at the tail of the field and approaching the 1000 metres was obliged to steady from heels when the pace slackened. App. Pye added that in the home straight she had difficulty obtaining clear running and approaching the 100 metres was forced to shift wider on the track and made heavy contact with DAVANNA (M. Hellyer). App. Pye said that, given the circumstances, she was not dissatisfied with the horse's overall performance. Trainer M. Barnham advised the stewards that, given the pre-race manners of GLASS HALF FULL, and the fact that the horse was slow to begin, he will now recommend to connections that the mare be sent for a spell.

Race 5: XXXX Bitter Class 1 Handicap - 1300 metres
1st DORF RILEY 2nd HOT SHOT SISTER/STAGECOACH (DH) 4th - TALKING NONSENSE

When Jockey S. McGovern was to be overweight, Jockey L. Dillon was substituted as the rider of TANIA'S REVENGE. Subsequently Jockey McGovern pleaded guilty to a charge under A.R.120 in that he accepted engagements for TANIA'S REVENGE and ALIENTO, in race 6, for which he was subsequently found to be overweight. Jockey McGovern was suspended from riding in races for a period covering 2 meetings, to commence on 26th April 2012 up to and including 3rd May 2012. In assessing penalty stewards took into account Jockey McGovern's from poor record in respect of being overweight.

The declaration of correct weight was delayed to allow Apprentice A. Taylor, the rider of STAGECOACH to view the patrol film to ascertain whether she had grounds to lodge an objection against HOT SHOT SISTER (D. Simmons). Having viewed the patrol footage, App. Taylor elected not to lodge a protest and correct weight was declared.

SARBI (N. Patchett) was slow to begin.

GRAND TURK (S. Sheargold) began awkwardly, shifted in and hampered O'NEILLO (App. S. Egan), which lost significant ground.

EXTRAVAGANT MISS (App. K. Matheson) began awkwardly and lost ground.

When the pace slackened approaching the 900 metres O'NEILLO (App. S. Egan) had to be steadied and shifted out to avoid the heels of TALKING NONSENSE (C. Maund), and in doing so forced TANIA'S REVENGE (L. Dillon) wider on the track.

In the middle stages HULA GISELLE (C. McIver) pulled hard.

Approaching the 500 metres STAGECOACH (App. A. Taylor) was disappointed for a run between HOT SHOT SISTER (D. Simmons) and O'NEILLO (App. S. Egan), which shifted out under pressure. As a result App. Taylor was obliged to stop riding and alter course to secure clear running.

A post-race veterinary examination of DREAM'N'IGNITE (D. Tanti), which performed below market expectations, did not reveal any abnormalities. Jockey D. Tanti reported that in his opinion DREAM'N'IGNITE raced with its tongue over the bit and this may have had a bearing on the mare's performance. Trainer M. Attard advised stewards that in light of today's performance and Jockey Tanti's comments, he would now experiment with the use of a tongue-tie in trackwork. Mr Attard undertook to inform stewards should anything come to light in the days following the race that may have affected the horse's performance.

HOT SHOT SISTER (D. Simmons), EXTRAVAGANT LASS (App. K. Matheson) and TANIA'S REVENGE (L. Dillon) raced wide throughout.

Race 6: Hahn Super Dry 3.5 Class 4 Handicap - 1600 metres
1st ICE APPLE 2nd WEEKEND SHOPPER 3rd DONOSTIA 4th - ROCK RAVE

When Jockey S. McGovern was to be overweight, Jockey N. Patchett was substituted as the rider of ALIENTO.

The start was delayed when ALIENTO (N. Patchett) became fractious in the barriers and reared, resulting to an injury to a barrier attendant, who required treatment from the ambulance officers. ALIENTO was examined by the club's veterinary surgeon and cleared to take its place in the field. Trainer J. O'Sing was advised that he must furnish a further barrier certificate prior to the gelding being permitted to race again.

Shortly after the start VITREOUS (J. Babarovich) bucked and severely hampered PICCOLO LATTE (App. A. Taylor), which lost significant ground. As a result, VITREOUS was retired from the event. Trainer J. Manzelmann was advised that VITREOUS will be required to perform to the satisfaction of stewards in an official barrier trial prior to being permitted to race again.

In the early stages LAYLA (T. O'Hara) over-raced when restrained from the heels of JURASSIC STAR (A. Pattillo).

During the race the saddle on ALIENTO (N. Patchett) slipped, placing Jockey Patchett at a disadvantage over the concluding stages.

Race 7: XXXX Island Open Handicap - 1050 metres
1st CANNYCLIMB 2nd FLEET'N'FAST 3rd RED STORY 4th - WRITER

RED STORY (App. A. Allen) and DASHING DOLL (T. O'Hara) were slow to begin.

FALVADORE (D. Tanti) blundered on jumping.

App. A. Allen reported to stewards that RED STORY hung out for the majority of the event.

Jockey S. Sheargold pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under A.R. 137(a) in that approaching the 900 metres he allowed MARTIROS to shift in and tighten both DEGENDA (M. Hellyer) and ZENACITY (App. A. Taylor), resulting in ZENACITY making heavy contact with the running rail, being checked and losing its position. Jockey Sheargold was suspended from riding in races for a period covering 1 Capricornia meeting, to commence at midnight on 26th April 2012, up to and including midnight of 28th April 2012. In assessing penalty stewards took into account Jockey Sheargold's impeccable record in relation to careless riding.

Near the 700 metres DEGENDA (M. Hellyer) was tightened for room and became unbalanced when racing to the inside of MARTIROS (S. Sheargold), which shifted in slightly.

FLEET ‘N’ FAST (App. S. Egan), PERUGIN THOUGHT (App. K. Matheson) and SNORKEL (A. Pattillo) raced wide throughout.

Race 8: www.callaghanpark.com.au Class 3 Plate - 1100 metres
1st HODGIE AND MO 2nd SO PRETENTIOUS 3rd FOUR IRON 4th - SAVANNAH DAWN

Connections of FOUR IRON advised stewards that it was intended to ride the gelding back in the field, if circumstances permitted. Public announcements were made to that effect and the horse was ridden accordingly.

The start was delayed when BOSE (L. Dillon) proved difficult to load.

On jumping SO PRETENTIOUS (A. Pattillo) slipped behind and lost ground.

SAMSKI (App. S. Egan), which was slow to begin and lost considerable ground, then raced ungenerously in the early and middle stages, shifted in on a number of occasions and made contact with the running rail. Trainer T. Austin was advised that a warning will be placed on the racing manners of SAMSKI.

At the start FRANKIE ME BOY (App. C. Pye) was severely tightened for room between ELLE DANSAIT (App. K. Gates), which shifted out, and BELLE OF STORMS (M. Hellyer), which was taken in by HODGIE AND MO (App. A. Allen), which began awkwardly. In the incident FRANKIE ME BOY was checked and lost significant ground.

Near the 700 metres SAVANNAH DAWN (S. McGovern), which had a tendency to hang out in the middle stages, improved onto the heels and had to be steadied. After leaving the 600 metres SAVANNAH DAWN was disappointed for a run between CALLY GREENLAKE and FOUR IRON (D. Missen) and had to be steadied.

Leaving the 400 metres BOSE (L. Dillon) had difficulty gaining clear running behind the tiring ELLE DANSAIT (App. K. Gates), and again had to alter course after passing the 200 metres, to avoid the heels of the tiring HALLOWED PEARL (S. Sheargold).

SO PRETENTIOUS (A. Pattillo) raced wide throughout.

Stewards questioned Apprentice K. Gates as to the tactics she adopted on ELLE DANSAIT, in particular as to why, after riding vigorously in the early stages to take up a position near the lead, she failed to restrain her mount and allow it to settle so that it had an opportunity to finish the race off well. App. Gates explained that she had been instructed to lead, however after viewing the patrol film she agreed with stewards that she had made an error of judgment by failing to steady between the 800 metres and the 600 metres. Stewards advised App. Gates that in the circumstances, while no direct action will be taken, the ride would be brought to the attention of the Apprentice Training Manager and she would be directed to attend a further rider review panel meeting.
