Race 1: Olive & White Cabinet Makers F&M Maiden Handicap - 1200 metres
1st ULUI 2nd PINANZA 3rd ME FAST TOO 4th - RISANI
SOFTLEA (T. Bannon) began awkwardly and lost ground.
ULUI (T. O'Hara) began awkwardly.
COCO HEART (C. Kearney) was a little slow to begin.
Jockey L. Dillon reported that ME FAST TOO had slipped behind on jumping and raced three wide for the majority of the event.
Race 2: Capricorn Investments Partners Class 1 Plate - 1300 metres
1st DRUMKIT 2nd VOLTURNUS 3rd LA LUNE DE MIEL 4th - DON'T TELL ALI
DON'T TELL ALI (App. K. Gates) began awkwardly and lost some ground.
KARZING (T. O'Hara) shifted out at the start.
Leaving the 1100 metres SOUTHSIDE (L. Dillon) raced ungenerously, shifted in, clipped the heels of VOLTURNUS (App. B. Appo) and blundered.
App. T. Jeffries pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding in that approaching the 600 metres she permitted WESTERN SEQUENTIAL to shift in when insufficiently clear of VOLTURNUS (App. B. Appo), which was taken inwards and tightened the running of DON'T TELL ALI (App. K. Gates), which lost ground. App. Jeffries’ licence to ride in races was suspended from midnight on 13th April, 2013, up to Saturday, 20th April 2013 (5 meetings). In considering penalty, Stewards were mindful of her guilty plea, good riding record and the low level of carelessness and severity of this incident..
Trainer P. Pengelly reported that VOLTURNUS (App. B. Appo) lost its near hind plate in running and had been galloped on.
Race 3: Keppel Coast Communications Benchmark 70 Handicap - 1100 metres
1st EMMA'S SONNET 2nd TRUSTY GREY 3rd MASSURI 4th - MOSSANAY
TRUSTY GREY (App. T. Jeffries) was fractious in the barriers prior to the start.
FOR LOVE ALONE (App. C. Pye) began extremely awkwardly, sprawled and lost ground.
Leaving the 400 metres MOSSANAY (L. Dillon) was held up for clear running and near the 200 metres shifted out to improve.
Leaving the 400 metres YOU DONE IT AGAIN (App. B. Appo) improved to the inside of MASSURI (A. Coome) and was held up for a short distance before being shifted out and in doing so hampered COUNTY SHERRIF (App. D. McWhinney).
Stewards sought an explanation from App. C. Pye as to the performance of FOR LOVE ALONE. App. Pye stated that the gelding did not feel comfortable in the early stages until near the 900 metres where she allowed FOR LOVE ALONE to progress into the race. However, when placed under pressure the gelding failed to stretch out and laid in on several occasions in the straight. A post-race veterinary examination of FOR LOVE ALONE revealed that the gelding was lame in the near foreleg and had mild tendon swelling. Trainer J. O'Sing will be advised that he must furnish a veterinary clearance prior to FOR LOVE ALONE being permitted to race again.
COUNTY SHERRIF (App. D. McWhinney) raced wide throughout.
Race 4: D Gray Grader & Loader Hire Classic QTIS 2YO Handicap - 1200 metres
1st BYNAZAR 2nd CRAIGLEA SEAL 3rd DODGE THE GREY 4th - IRON JACKET
MISS BULL (App. K. Gates) was slow into stride.
VICORAY (D. Simmons) began a little awkwardly and shortly after the start was tightened for room between DISCO LEMONADE (T. O'Hara) and IRON JACKET (A. Coome), both of which shifted ground.
GORDIE'S WISH (App. A. Kitson) began awkwardly, shifted out and lost ground.
Near the 300 metres DISCO LEMONADE (T. O'Hara) laid in, resulting in MISS BULL (App. K. Gates) shifting in and away from that runner and hampering SOVEREIGN BELLE (App. D. McWhinney), which shifted ground.
DISCO LEMONADE (T. O'Hara) raced wide throughout.
A post-race veterinary examination of SOVEREIGN BELLE (App. D. McWhinney) revealed that the filly was shin sore.
Stewards sought an explanation from Jockey A. Coome regarding the performance of IRON JACKET. Jockey Coome said that he was disappointed with the performance and the only explanation he could offer was that VICORAY had challenged him for the lead in the early and middle stages. Jockey Coome added that in the straight IRON JACKET raced in restricted room to the inside of VICORAY and appeared to resent doing so. Trainer S. Kendrick confirmed to stewards that it is now his intention that the colt undergo a gelding operation and be spelled.
Race 5: Patlaw Security QTIS 3YO Handicap - 1200 metres
1st CHEAPSKATER 2nd TURVANNA 3rd MAXIMUM COMMAND 4th - CLEAR DECISION
CLEAR DECISION (App. T. Jeffries) was a little slow to begin.
HARDCOVER (App. A. Kitson) began awkwardly.
Shortly after the start CHEAPSKATER (D. Evans) was awkwardly placed on the heels of CLAIR DU MONDE (J. Stephens), shifted in and hampered CLEAR DECISION (App. T. Jeffries).
Near the 900 metres MAXIMUM COMMAND (L. Dillon) had to be eased when TURVANNA (A. Coome) shifted in slightly.
Stewards sought an explanation from App. D. McWhinney as to the performance of PYGMY HUNTER. App. McWhinney stated that the filly over-raced in the early and middle stages and he was unable to obtain cover. App. McWhinney added that the filly was under pressure from the 400 metres and failed to finish off the race in its usual manner. Trainer A. Albert advised stewards that the filly will be sent for a freshen-up prior to its next race start. A post-race veterinary examination of PYGMY HUNTER revealed a slow post-race recovery rate.
Race 6: Outback Jacks Class 3 Plate - 1600 metres
1st FRED ASTAIRE 2nd MCFERRIN 3rd LADY BULLMORE 4th - HEZOFF
LADY BULLMORE (L. Dillon) began awkwardly.
SILVERZEN (T. O'Hara) was a little slow to begin.
Stewards sought an explanation from App. T. Jeffries as to her riding of WINDS ME UP near the 1000 metres. It was established that approaching the 1000 metres WINDS ME UP had to be steadied from the heels of HEZOFF (T. Bannon), which had eased the pace after obtaining the lead. App. Jeffries said that after shifting out FRED ASTAIRE (App. B. Appo) improved to her inside and a short distance afterwards, LADY BULLMORE (L. Dillon) had also improved to her inside, and she was obliged to race one out from the running rail for the remainder of the event.
ALL WINNERS WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
