1st MT ZIGGARO 2nd FINAL CHAPTER 3rd JOKERMAN 4th - SIMON BON ROCKET
MANILA ACADEMY (T. O'Hara) was slow to begin.
Soon after the start SIMON BON ROCKET (T. Bannon), which had been slow to begin, was hampered by MT ZIGGARO (D. Evans), which jumped out.
For a short distance near the 900 metres MT ZIGGARO over-raced on the heels of FINAL CHAPTER (A. Coome).
Approaching the 900 metres ALWAYS THINKING (App. M. McGillivray) shifted in slightly causing JOKERMAN (App. A. Allen) to become unbalanced and dip. App. McGillivray was reminded of his obligation to preventing his mounts from shifting ground.
Trainer C. Garland reported that FINAL CHAPTER had pulled up well post-race. Mr Garland said that the gelding's performance may have been affected by the removal of blinkers and the addition of winkers to the approved gear for FINAL CHAPTER at this start and advised stewards that the blinkers will be removed from the horse's approved gear at its next start, at Rockhampton on 20th February.
MANILA ACADEMY raced wide throughout.
Race 5: Prime Properties Rockhampton Class 1 Handicap - 1050 metres
1st BERRYBEAR 2nd URULOKI 3rd AL'S MAH DADDY 4th - KILLER WASP
A pre-race veterinary examination of AL'S MAH DADDY (T. O'Hara), which was resuming from a lengthy spell, did not reveal any abnormalities and the mare was cleared to take its place in the field.
The declaration of correct weight was delayed to allow Jockey M. Usher, the rider of KILLER WASP, to view the official photo-finish for third. Having done so, Jockey Usher was satisfied with the judge's placings and correct weight was declared.
The start was delayed when UROLOKI (App. M. McGillivray) and CRAIGLEA MIRACLE (T. Bannon) proved difficult to load into the barriers.
URULOKI (App. M. McGillivray) began awkwardly and shifted in.
TUNING (C. Pye) began awkwardly.
At the start AL'S MAH DADDY (T. O'Hara) shifted in onto RHINO (App. G. Steele), which was taken in onto COUNTING HOUSE (App. A. Allen) and hampered.
DROPPER CRYSTAL (D. Evans) jumped awkwardly outwards and made contact with HOLLYWOOD PRINCESS (A. Coome).
Leaving the 900 metres TUNING (C. Pye) commenced to hang out and COUNTING HOUSE was steadied and taken wider on the track when TUNING shifted out.
Near the 900 metres URULOKI was steadied from the heels of ZAYNA (App. S. Fawke), which had crossed to the lead and steadied the pace. At about the 650 metres URULOKI was again steadied from the heels of ZAYNA.
In the home straight COUNTING HOUSE was inclined to lay in.
Near the 400 metres INDY'S BULLION (L. Dillon) shifted in of its own accord, brushed the running rail and became unbalanced.
KILLER WASP (M. Usher) and RHINO (App. G. Steele) raced wide throughout.
Race 6: Mel Slade KNM Insurance Class 2 Handicap - 1400 metres
1st CLEVEDON COURT 2nd CRACOW 3rd HOW CAN I HELP 4th - BOLD DICTATOR
On arriving behind the barriers HEART OF TEXAS (L. Dillon) was examined by the Club's veterinary surgeon at the request of Jockey L. Dillon. Acting on her advice that the mare was unfit to start, stewards ordered the withdrawal of HEART OF TEXAS at 3.48 p.m. Subsequently Stewards ordered that all bets made on HEART OF TEXAS be refunded in full and that the following deductions apply:
9¢ in the dollar for the win for the winner, CLEVEDON COURT
7¢ in the dollar for the place for the winner, CLEVEDON COURT
10¢ in the dollar for the place for 2nd, CRACOW
9¢ in the dollar for the place for 3rd, HOW CAN I HELP
Trainer Ms G. Bell was advised that she must furnish a veterinary clearance prior to HEART OF TEXAS being permitted to race again. Ms Bell advised that the mare would now be sent for a significant spell or possibly retired.
CRACOW (App J Orman), EDGEROI HOPE (H. Diener), HOW CAN I HELP (T. O’hara) and PRECIOUS LILLY (J. Stephens) all were slow to begin.
Stewards sought an explanation from Jockey A. Coome as to why STRADA TITLE led in today's race, contrary to the gelding's normal racing pattern. Jockey Coome said that he was instructed to take up a midfield position, however when there was little early pace in the event, from his wide barrier he elected to ride STRADA TITLE along and the gelding was able to obtain the lead of its own accord. Jockey Coome added that in his opinion STRADA TITLE may perform better when ridden midfield.
Race 7: Century Batteries BenchMark 65 Handicap - 1100 metres
1st EQUABLE 2nd BONNY THE VIPER 3rd YOU'RE MINE 4th - CONJUGAL RIGHTS
A pre-race veterinary examination of KBENGAL, which was resuming following a significant spell, did not reveal any abnormalities and the mare was cleared to take its place in the field.
Stewards accepted the explanation tendered by trainer L. Challacombe for the late declaration of Jockey H. Diener as the rider of RYTARGA.
RYTARGA began awkwardly and blundered.
SPEEDSKATER (D. Hayse) began awkwardly.
CONJUGAL RIGHTS (App. G. Steele) and CLICK UP (App. A. Allen) raced wide throughout.
Stewards sought an explanation from Jockey D. Evans as to the performance of ALOTTA MOJO. Jockey Evans stated that the gelding had performed well first-up in its previous preparation and at that start may have appreciated the rain-affected track. Jockey Evans said that the gelding raced well in the early stages but did not appreciate the pressure being applied to his mount by BONNY THE VIPER (C. Pye) and was disappointing. Trainer L. Rowe agreed with Jockey Evans that the horse's performance was disappointing. Mr Rowe noted that he had not planned ALOTTA MOJO to lead, however he was of the opinion that Jockey Evans had no other option than to lead from the gelding's favourable barrier. The explanation was noted.
Jockey D. Evans was fined $200 under A.R. 137A (5)(a)(ii) for using his whip on ALOTTA MOJO in a forehand manner on more than five occasions prior to the 100 metres.
