CRACOW (App. J. Orman) proved difficult to load into the barriers. Trainer M. Tremble was advised that a warning will be placed on the barrier manners of CRACOW.
At the start FAIRBRAE (C-M. Pye) shifted in and inconvenienced THE HYDRATOR (T. O'Hara).
CRACOW was slow to begin.
As the start was effected REDOUTE'S POWER (C. McIver) reared and lost considerable ground. Trainer M. Barnham was advised that 2 further barrier certificates will be required prior to REDOUTE'S POWER being permitted to race again.
In the early and middle stages CRACOW over-raced.
Leaving the 400 metres CRACOW shifted out to improve to the outside of FAIRBRAE, which then shifted out marginally, resulting in CRACOW being taken out onto THE HYDRATOR.
App. J. Orman was fined $300 for using his whip on CRACOW in a forehand manner more than 5 times prior to the 100 metres.
Race 3: BOQ North Rockhampton Fillies and Mares Maiden Handicap - 1050 metres

A post-race veterinary examination of SOVEREIGN BELLE (App. K. Gates), which finished the race tailed off, revealed that the filly had tied up. Trainer M. Barnham was advised that a veterinary clearance will be required prior to SOVEREIGN BELLE being permitted to race again.

Race 5: Yellow Brick Road Wealth Management Class 3 Plate - 1500 metres
1st - SEEN A HOST 2nd - EDGEROI DIXIE 3rd - SIX OF HEARTS 4th - YOU'RE MINE 4th -
Due to a clerical error Apprentice S. Fawke was incorrectly advertised as claiming an allowance of 3kg. Apprentice Fawke claimed 2kg throughout the day and public announcements were made to that effect.
SIX OF HEARTS (App. M. McGillivray) was slow to begin.
Leaving the 700 metres IOWNAPRINCE (A. Coome) over-raced at the heels of ROSEHIP (D. Hayse) and shifted out, forcing EDGEROI DIXIE (App. S. McGovern) wider on the track.
In the home straight SIX OF HEARTS shifted out under pressure. Stewards advised App. McGillivray that in future he would be expected to make a greater effort to stop riding and straighten his mount before shifting forcing another runner wider.
Over the concluding stages SEEN A HOST (D. Evans) shifted out under pressure.
Trainer C. Garland reported that this was the first time he had raced EDGEROI DIXIE on a short back-up and he was of the view that this contributed to the mare shifting out abruptly when under pressure over the concluding stages. Nevertheless, Mr Garland was advised that a warning will be placed on the racing manners of EDGEROI DIXIE.
When questioned as to the performance of IOWNAPRINCE, Jockey A. Coome was of the view that the gelding had come to the end of its current racing preparation. Jockey Coome indicated that connections will be sending the gelding for an immediate spell.
Race 6: Thinkwater Rockhampton/Wandal Need & Feed Class 1 Handicap – 1050 metres
1st - COLD COLLECT 2nd - HOLLYWOOD PRINCESS 3rd - DOTHRAKI WARRIOR 4th - BORN TO SURVIVE
The start was initially delayed when PICCIRILLO (App. S. Fawke) proved difficult to load into the barriers. Trainer J. Rideout was advised that a warning will be placed on the barrier manners of PICCIRILLO.
The start was then further delayed when TROPICAL HEATWAVE was fractious in the barriers. The gelding was removed from the barriers and examined by the Club's veterinary surgeon and subsequently declared a late scratching at 4.11 p.m. Stewards ordered that all bets made on TROPICAL PRINCESS be refunded in full and that the following deductions apply:
28¢ in the dollar for the win for the winner, COLD COLLECT
24¢ in the dollar for the place for the winner, COLD COLLECT
24¢ in the dollar for the place for 2nd, HOLLYWOOD PRINCESS
22¢ in the dollar for the place for 3rd, DOTHRAKI WARRIOR
Trainer M. Reardon was advised that a further barrier certificate and a veterinary clearance will be required before TROPICAL HEATWAVE will be permitted to race again.
The start was again delayed when AL'S MAH DADDY (T. O'Hara) was fractious in the barriers and had to be removed from the barriers and examined by the Club's veterinary surgeon before being cleared to take its place in the field. A warning was placed on the barrier manners of AL'S MAH DADDY. Trainer J. Wehlow reported following the race that AL’S MAH DADDY was displaying signs of being in season.
CHERISHTHETHOUGHT (D. Hayse) was fractious in the barriers before being slow to begin. When questioned about the disappointing performance of CHERISHTHETHOUGHT Jockey Hayse stated that the gelding was unusually fractious behind the barriers and again once placed in the barrier stalls. Jockey Hayse was of the opinion that this had a detrimental effect on the performance of the gelding. Stewards noted the explanation. A post-race veterinary examination of CHERISHTHETHOUGHT did not reveal any significant abnormality.
BORN TO SURVIVE (S. Evans) began awkwardly.
PICCIRILLO (App. S. Fawke) began awkwardly and shifted out.
Near the 200 metres TUNING (C-M. Pye) shifted out abruptly of its own accord.
AL'S MAH DADDY (T. O'Hara) raced wide throughout.
When questioned as to the tactics adopted on DROPPER CRYSTAL, particularly in the home straight, Jockey D. Evans stated that from a wide barrier he was forced to restrain the gelding and take up a position closer to the running rail. Jockey Evans added that leaving the 700 metres he commenced to improve into the race and upon straightening for home elected to shift to the outside of DOTHRAKI WARRIOR (A. Coome) to improve. Jockey Evans noted that at that point DOTHRAKI WARRIOR shifted out, so he elected to shift back in to the inside of that runner to obtain clear running. Jockey Evans said further that DROPPER CRYSTAL then had a tendency to race greenly, and was inclined to shift ground, which prevented him from placing the gelding under full pressure. Nonetheless he felt that the gelding commenced to find the line well over the concluding stages, however close to the finishing line he was obliged to stop riding when COLD COLLECT shifted in. Jockey Evans was of the opinion that as this was the gelding's second start since a spell, DROPPER CRYSTAL may improve when racing in events over a longer distance than today's race. Whilst stewards noted the explanation, they reminded Jockey Evans of his obligation to advise them as soon as possible of anything that may have affected the performance.
Race 7: XXXX Gold Class 6 Plate – 1200 metres
1st - PASSIVITY 2nd - BALLROOM DANCE 3rd - COVERT CHARMOUR 4th - BLACKJACK DAVEY
After arriving on course trainer L. Rowe reported to stewards that BLACKJACK DAVEY had sustained a minor injury to its off fore tendon the day prior to the meeting. The gelding was examined by the Club's veterinary surgeon and cleared to take its place in the field. Mr Rowe was permitted to apply bandages to the off foreleg of BLACKJACK DAVEY and public announcements were made to that effect.
COVERT CHARMOUR (L. Dillon), CHRISTMAS ISLAND (T. O'Hara), BALLROOM DANCE (D. Evans) and MAYOR OF CLONMEL (C. McIver) were all slow to begin.
PASSIVITY (C-M. Pye) began awkwardly.
Near the 900 metres SNIP 'N' AWAY (App. S. Fawke) had to be steadied when placed in restricted room between BLACKJACK DAVEY (A. Coome) and COVERT CHARMOUR.
In the middle stages COVERT CHARMOUR over-raced and in the early part of the home straight was held up for clear running.
SPEEDSKATER (D. Hayse) raced wide throughout.
