Shortly after the start HELAROCITY (B. Stewart) commenced to lay inwards, taking CRAIGLEA BROOKE inwards. Near the 900 metres, HELAROCITY continued to lay in and LITTLE WHITE DOVE (C. McIver) was placed in restricted room, became unbalanced, eased and lost some ground. HELAROCITY continued to lay in for the majority of the straight, and near the 400 metres brushed the running rail on a number of occasions. Trainer J. Coome stated that he was instructed to take up a position midfield, however from the inside barrier and after beginning well, he was able to lead. Jockey Coome said that the performance was disappointing and that being forced to lead had been detrimental to the performance of the mare today. Jockey Coome added that LINDLEY'S LASS will be better suited when ridden back in the field and that the trainer had indicated that he would remove the blinkers from the horse's approved gear for its next start.

Jockey Whiteley said that he took up a position at the rear of the field and on straightening allowed the gelding to improve of its own accord. Jockey Whiteley added that he had a tighter hold on PAYTEEVEE, given the horse's habit of hanging in. He noted that he was disappointed with today's run as the horse had found the line fairly over the concluding stages.

Trainer J. O'Sing confirmed that PASSIVITY will now be sent for a spell.
When asked as to the improved performance of YOU DONE IT AGAIN, trainer C. Garland stated that at its first start since spell the horse had failed to race competitively after travelling. Race 8: Patlaw Security Systems Class 2 Handicap - 1400 metres
1st BLACK MONTY 2nd JOKERMAN 3rd ELDOSHAR 4th - ROSEHIP
Stewards considered an objection lodged by Jockey D. Simmons, the rider of ELDOSHAR, which finished 3rd, against JOKERMAN (A. Coome) being declared 2nd, on the grounds of interference inside the final 100 metres. After taking evidence from the riders and trainers involved, stewards established that leaving the 100 metres JOKERMAN shifted out and impeded ELDOSHAR to a degree. However, taking into account the margin of 1½ lengths between the two runners at the finish, stewards could not be comfortably satisfied that the incident warranted a reversal of the placings. Accordingly, the protest was dismissed and the placings ordered to stand. At a further inquiry Jockey Coome was reprimanded for shifting out when not entirely clear. Stewards found further that BLACK MONTY (App. J. Orman) shifted in under pressure, which contributed to the reason for Jockey Simmons having to ease his mount and lose some ground.
ELDOSHAR was slow into stride.
App. A. Allen reported that COUNTING HOUSE over-raced for the majority of the event.
Jockey S. Sheargold was reprimanded under A.R. 142 for failing to weigh in after riding STRADA TITLE into 5th place.
