GENERAL

Trainer S Sigvart reported that SPEEDSKATER had bled from both nostrils when being exercised prior to today's engagement. Accordingly Mr Sigvart was advised that, as this was the first time the gelding had bled, will be barred from racing for three months under A.R. 53A, and then only after a satisfactory gallop of at least 1000 metres in the presence of a steward. Mr Sigvart informed stewards that the gelding will be retired from racing.

Trainer J. McConachy reported to stewards that HELAROCITY had stretched its near fore ligament in a stable incident and will now be sent for a spell.

Apprentices Fawke and Orman were reprimanded under L.R. 61 for failing to provide a letter of authority from their respective masters.

Race 1: XXXX Gold Open Handicap - 1300 metres
1st EL SUPREMO 2nd BLAZE TO FORTUNE 3rd YOU DONE IT AGAIN 4th - DEVON

Whilst being transported to the track DEVON sprung its near fore plate, which had to be refitted.

Near the 900 metres YOU DONE IT AGAIN (T. O'Hara) raced keenly when being restrained and DEVON (R. McMahon) was steadied from its heels. In the early part of the home straight DEVON had difficulty obtaining clear running until near the 350 metres, then near the 200 metres YOU DONE IT AGAIN shifted in slightly under pressure, which resulted in DEVON being steadied.

Race 2: Capricornia Yearling Sales QTIS Two-Years-Old Handicap – 1200 metres
1st QUICK ASSAULT 2nd ONEMORENOBLEDANCER 3rd LITTLE WHITE DOVE 4th - CURLEY GREY

The declaration of correct weight was delayed to allow Jockey A. Coome, the rider of LITTLE WHITE DOVE, and trainer K. Hansen and an owner of ONEMORENOBLEDANCER, to view the photo finish print. Having done so, they were satisfied with the judge's placings and correct weight was declared.

BREATH OF TERA (L. Dillon) began awkwardly.

WHAT A STAR (T. O'Hara) was a little slow to begin, shifted out and had to be steadied from the heels of TERANASAURUS (App. B. Appo).

At the start, LITTLE WHITE DOVE (A. Coome) shifted outwards and lost ground.

In the middle stages CURLEY GREY (R. McMahon) raced keenly and near the 700 metres was bumped by TAJETTE (App. M. McGillivray), which rolled out, and became unbalanced.

WHAT A STAR raced wide throughout.

Race 3: CQTBA Calcutta – Friday 11th April Maiden Plate - 1100 metres
1st RHAEGARS FIRE 2nd ROSELLA EAGLE 3rd AUSTANA 4th - SHOCKETEOR

The start was delayed when GRAND HOTEL and PRIMED FOR DESTINY required to be re-saddled behind the barriers.

WONGARANDA (S. McGovern) and PRIMED FOR DESTINY (D. Evans) began awkwardly.

SPRING BOUNTY (L. Dillon) began awkwardly, shifted out and made contact with DREAM RIDE (App. S. Fawke).

Near the 900 metres BOLD FLIGHT (R. McMahon) raced in restricted room to the inside of DENIS THE DUDE (B. Stewart) and was steadied.

Near the 800 metres AUSTANA (T. O'Hara) improved onto the heels of WONGARANDA and when shifted out, took RHAEGARS FIRE wider on the track.

Inside the 400 metres THUNDA COOKIE (App. M. McGillivray) had difficulty obtaining clear running until close to the 200 metres. At about the 150 metres THUNDA COOKIE bumped with DENIS THE DUDE, and near the 100 metres when BARBOUGE (C. Pye) rolled in, was held up and unable to be fully tested.

RHAEGARS FIRE (App. J. Orman) and GRAND HOTEL (T. Bannon) raced wide throughout.

Race 4: Summer Bright BenchMark 75 Handicap - 1050 metres
1st THE SHOOTER 2nd CYCLONE BILLY 3rd EMOTIONALLY YOURS 4th - SHADOWOFYOURSMILE

SURF FIRE (A. Coome) began awkwardly and bumped SHADOWOFYOURSMILE (S. Sheargold), then shifted in and made contact with EMOTIONALLY YOURS (App. B. Appo).

SHADOWOFYOURSMILE raced wide throughout.

When questioned about the performance of SURF FIRE, Jockey A. Coome was at a loss to explain the mare's poor run. Jockey Coome said that the mare did not travel positively throughout the event and at the entrance to the straight was placed under pressure. Jockey Coome added that SURF FIRE seemed to resent racing among other runners. Stewards will follow up with trainer R. Vale regarding the disappointing performance of SURF FIRE.

Race 5: Bacardi Oakheart Open Three-Years-Old Handicap - 1300 metres
1st PERFORMIA 2nd TAILORED SPUR 3rd MT ZIGGARO 4th - BYNAZAR

ZAZALURI (C. Pye) began awkwardly.

Shortly after the start CHERISHTHETHOUGHT (App. J. Orman) raced ungenerously when being restrained and raced wide until the 800 metres. Stewards questioned App. J. Orman regarding his riding tactics on CHERISHTHETHOUGHT. App. Orman stated that he was not given specific instructions other than to ride the gelding where it was comfortable, depending on the tempo of the race, and that the gelding was best suited when able to obtain cover. Stewards afforded App. Orman the opportunity to review the patrol films and he agreed that in the circumstances it may have been more advantageous to obtain a position more forward and closer to the running rail in the early stages than he had on this occasion.

In the early and middle stages MT ZIGGARO (D. Evans) pulled hard.

Race 6: Hats & Heels High Tea - Friday 11th April Class 1 Handicap – 1300 metres
1st VICOMTE 2nd DADSAIDJETTA 3rd INDY'S BULLION 4th - PUFF OF SMOKE

BROCHETTE stood flat-footed at the start, lost ground and tailed the field throughout.

EAGLE HAS LANDED (App. S. Fawke) began awkwardly.

THE PANTZ (S. McGovern) raced three wide throughout.

STAR MATERIAL (D. Evans) raced wide throughout.

When questioned regarding the performance of BROCHETTE, Jockey T. Bannon stated that she had applied pressure to the mare in the early stages, however BROCHETTE failed to respond to her riding throughout the event. A post-race swab sample was taken from the mare. A post-race veterinary examination of the mare revealed the near hind plate to be loose, but there were no other abnormalities. In light of these findings, stewards will advise trainer M. Bannon that BROCHETTE must trial satisfactorily over 800 metres prior to its next race start.

From the 800 metres FICKLE BUSINESS raced wide on the track.
