------------

Race 1: XXXX Gold Benchmark 65 Handicap - 1500 metres
1st FICKLE BUSINESS 2nd CLICK UP 3rd FIDESDI 4th - RADIANT JOY/BERRYBEAR (DH)

MAGGIE'S PAL (App. S. Fawke) was slow to begin.

BENNY'S HALO (B. Stewart) was slow to begin and was hampered by FIDESDI (App. M. McGillivray), which shifted in.

SEEN A HOST (D. Evans) slipped at the start, began extremely awkwardly, lost ground and then raced wide from the 600 metres.

FICKLE BUSINESS (S. McGovern) and BENNY'S HALO over-raced in the early and middle stages.

From the 400 metres until near the 250 metres MAGGIE'S PAL was held up and unable to obtain clear running.

RADIANT JOY (App. A. Allen) raced 3 wide throughout.

A post-race veterinary examination of SEEN A HOST did not reveal any abnormalities.

Race 2: Summer Bright Handicap – 1100 metres
1st HODGIE AND MO 2nd PRINCE MONASHEE 3rd PRINCELY 4th - THE SHOOTER

TEN SECONDS was scratched from today's event as it will be entered for the Rockhampton meeting on Saturday 10th May.

Trainer N. Mannion’s explanation was not accepted and a fine of $100 was imposed under L.R. 68 for failing to declare Jockey T. O'Hara as the rider of INTERVIEW by the prescribed time.

Prior to the Race 1, trainer R. Vale advised stewards that Jockey C. McIver would be instructed to use the whip on PRINCE MONASHEE only sparingly. Public announcements were made to that effect.

HODGIE AND MO (A. Coome) was fractious leaving the enclosure, made contact with the outside rail, dislodged Jockey A. Coome and lost its off hind plate. After arriving at the barriers unsuccessful attempts were made to replate the gelding and HODGIE AND MO was permitted to race bare behind.

INTERVIEW began a little awkwardly and lost some ground.

From the 900 metres NEVZLIN (D. Evans) shifted out in an attempt to avoid racing close to the inside rail, and in doing so forced INTERVIEW to race wide. Near the 800 metres INTERVIEW when racing one off the running rail, made contact with NEVZLIN and had to be steadied from the heels of THE SHOOTER (R. McMahon).

At the entrance to the home straight INTERVIEW attempted to hold NEVZLIN, resulting in NEVZLIN bumping INTERVIEW on two occasions causing that gelding to become unbalanced and shift outwards. A post-race veterinary examination of INTERVIEW revealed that the gelding had sustained an injury to its near fore hoof, consistent with previous abscess, and was treated.

Following the race Jockey R. McMahon reported that THE SHOOTER felt uncomfortable during the event. A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding revealed it was lame in the near fetlock. Trainer L. Rowe will be advised that he must provide a veterinary clearance prior to THE SHOOTER being permitted to race again.

Race 3: Bacardi Oakheart QTIS 3-Y-O Handicap - 1100 metres
1st TOUCH 'N' GO 2nd NUDE SECRETS 3rd MYTHOLOGIST 4th - ICE MELODY

ICE MELODY (App. M. McGillivray), which had been fractious in the barriers, was slow to begin.

CRAIGLEA SEAL (App. S. Fawke) and NUDE SECRETS (R. McMahon) made contact on jumping.

Stewards questioned Jockey D. Evans in regard to his riding on MT ZIGGARO in the early stages, when it was observed that after beginning well, the horse was then restrained. Jockey Evans stated that his instructions were to take up a handy position if possible and to race where the gelding was comfortable, however given the anticipated pace of runners to his inside, and bearing in mind that at its recent starts the gelding had not been finishing off its races, he was unable to obtain a position closer to the running rail, due to runners on his inside maintaining their positions, and consequently he took up a 3-wide position towards the rear of the field.

BYNAZAR (App. J. Orman) raced 3 wide throughout.

Race 4: Toohey’s Extra Dry BenchMark 70 Handicap - 1300 metres
1st KING RAY 2nd POWER RANGER 3rd SHORT TRIP 4th - PLUM BOB

POWER RANGER (A. Coome) was slow to begin.

KANSKJE (C. McIver) began awkwardly.

CASINO BENJO raced wide throughout. A post-race veterinary examination revealed that the gelding had sustained a small laceration to the nearside hindquarters.

Race 5: Hahn Premium Light Maiden Handicap - 1300 metres
1st DAM FLASH 2nd AUSTANA 3rd GRAND HOTEL 4th - THUNDA COOKIE

SEA CREST (C. McIver) was slow to begin.

DARK MATTER (R. McMahon) was slow into stride.

HOPE SPRINGS (B. Stewart) began awkwardly and lost some ground.

Near the 900 metres LOOKING BACK (T. O'Hara) improved onto the heels of AUSTANA (App. J. Orman) and had to be steadied.

Near the 400 metres HOPE SPRINGS and COOL CALL (D. Simmons) bumped.

Approaching the 350 metres JACKSON MAGIC (K. Gates) was eased when both HOPE SPRINGS and SHOCKETEOR (D. Evans) shifted ground.

DEL DE AIR (App. B. Appo) raced wide throughout. A post-race veterinary examination revealed that the gelding had bled from both nostrils. Trainer R. Bowen was advised that, as this was the first time the gelding had bled, it will be barred from racing for 3 months, under A.R. 53A, and then only after a satisfactory gallop of at least 1000 metres in the presence of a steward.

Trainer J. O'Sing advised stewards that it was his intention to spell GRAND HOTEL.

Race 6: XXXX Island Class 1 Handicap - 1100 metres
1st HILLCREST 2nd GENTLE GOODNIGHT 3rd DOTHRAKI WARRIOR 4th - LATIN KING

FISCAL CLIFF (App. B. Appo) began awkwardly.

HILLCREST (D. Evans) began awkwardly and lost some ground.

Shortly after the start SIR GALLEN (B. Stewart) bumped GO SAI, which was buffeted onto FALVINA (App. S. Fawke), which in turn made contact with GRIZZLE (T. Bannon).

GO SAI (D. Simmons) and HILLCREST raced wide throughout.

GO SAI lost its off hind plate in running.

Jockey B. Stewart could offer no tangible explanation for the disappointing performance of SIR GALLEN. Jockey Stewart stated that the gelding had commenced to yield ground shortly after entering the straight. Stewards will follow up the performance with trainer J. McConachy.

Race 7: Bacardi Superior Class 3 Plate – 1050 metres
1st LAST PARDEE 2nd KILLER WASP 3rd STORMWOOD 4th - SURF FIRE

When Jockey L. Dillon failed to arrive on course, Jockey T. Bannon was substituted as the rider of SENSATIONAL LINE. Stewards will inquire into this matter at a later date and time.

After being placed in the barriers RISHONA (D. Simmons) became fractious and kicked the rear barrier gate and sustained a laceration to its off hind leg. The mare was examined by the Club's veterinary surgeon and, acting on her advice that RISHONA was unfit to take its place in the field, stewards scratched the mare at 4.41 p.m. Subsequently they ordered that all bets made on RISHONA be refunded in full and that the following deductions apply:

5¢ in the dollar for the win for the winner, LAST PARDEE
5¢ in the dollar for the place for the winner, LAST PARDEE
7¢ in the dollar for the place for 2nd, KILLER WASP
7¢ in the dollar for the place for 3rd, STORMWOOD

BAGINIQUE (C. McIver) dwelt at the start, began awkwardly and was hampered by SURF FIRE (R. McMahon), which jumped inwards.

STORMWOOD (T. O'Hara) was fractious in the barriers and began awkwardly.

THEFORCEBEWITHYOU (S. McGovern) blundered on jumping.

LAST PARDEE lost its off hind plate in running.

Near the 900 metres DAME JUDARIUS (D. Evans) shifted in and caused THEFORCEBEWITHYOU to shift in and be eased. Jockey Evans was advised to exercise greater care.

SENSATIONAL LINE, LAST PARDEE, and STORMWOOD raced wide throughout.
