Race 1: Summer Bright Class 6 Plate - 1100 metres
1st PRINCELY 2nd KLITSCHKO 3rd LANSDOWNE ROAD 4th - LEGAL DANCER
MISTABLISTA (S. McCullum) began awkwardly.
SUPERB EFFORT (K. Gates) shifted out on jumping.
LANSDOWNE ROAD (A. Coome) was slow to begin.
In the early and middle stages LEGAL DANCER (D. Hayse) pulled hard.
For a short distance leaving the 900 metres LANSDOWNE ROAD over-raced.
LANSDOWNE ROAD was held up and unable to obtain clear running until near the 350 metres and shifted out and bumped PRINCELY (C. Pye).
The declaration of correct weight was delayed to allow Jockey S. McCullum and a part-owner of MISTABLISTA, which finished 5th, to view the available patrol films with a view to lodging an objection against LANSDOWNE ROAD being declared 3rd, alleging interference over the concluding stages. Having viewed the films they elected to proceed with the objection. Stewards established that near the 50 metres LANSDOWNE ROAD shifted out and brushed and made minor contact with MISTABLISTA, however this had not impeded Jockey McCullum from riding his mount along or lose any ground. In the circumstances the objection was dismissed and the judge's placings ordered to stand. Subsequently Jockey McCullum was fined $200 under A.R. 165(3) for lodging what the stewards deemed to be a frivolous protest.
Following the race it was noted that LANSDOWNE ROAD had bled from both nostrils. Trainer T. Button was advised that, as this was the first time the gelding had bled, it will be barred from competing in races for 3 months, under the terms of A.R. 53A, and then only after a satisfactory gallop of at least 1000 metres in the presence of a steward.

A post-race veterinary examination of KOKO CLANG (App. A. Allen) revealed that the horse had aggravated a pre-existing wound to its near fetlock.
Race 5: XXXX Island Class 1 Handicap - 1400 metres
1st ABOVE US 2nd JOKERMAN 3rd CYCLONE STEVE 4th - THE PANTZ
Stewards inquired into an incident that occurred approaching the 900 metres. It was established that at that stage STAR MATERIAL (M. McGillivray) laid in and made contact with the running rail, became unbalanced and lost ground, which caused ABOVE US (B. Stewart), which was following, to be checked, shift out and take CYCLONE STEVE (D. Hayse) wider.
At about the 650 metres STAR MATERIAL had to be steadied when racing to the inside of JOKERMAN (A. Coome). THE PANTZ (App. A. Allen), which was following and racing keenly was restrained and shifted to the outside of ABOVE US
Near the 200 metres JOKERMAN commenced to lay out and made contact with CYCLONE STEVE. Jockey Coome stopped riding and straightened his mount.
CYCLONE STEVE raced wide throughout.

1st SAY I WON'T 2nd BONNY THE VIPER 3rd SOCIETY LASS 4th - DAMO'S TOUCH

9¢ in the dollar for the win for the winner, SAY I WON'T

Trainer G. Elliott was advised that he must furnish a veterinary clearance prior to EMOTIONALLY YOURS being permitted to race again.

In the early stages DOUBTFUL PRINCE (D. Missen) over-raced.
SOCIETY LASS (App. A. Allen) laid out momentarily near the 900 metres.
SIR STANLEY (App. S. Fawke) raced wide throughout.
When questioned as to the performance of SMART PATROL, Jockey C. Spry stated that he was instructed to obtain a mid to rear position and allow the gelding to work into the race. After doing so, the gelding travelled fairly and at the entrance to the straight shifted in to obtain cover, however when placed under pressure SMART PATROL failed to run on and was disappointing and in his opinionraced flat. Trainer T Button advised Stewards that SMART PARTOL will now be spelled.
Race 7: Bacardi Superior Class 3 Handicap - 1300 metres
1st PINANZA 2nd VANCOUVER GOLD 3rd THEFORCEBEWITHYOU 4th - KAPUTSKI
Near the 900 metres PEGUNNY SPUR (C. Spry) shifted in marginally when insufficiently clear of KAPUTSKI (D. Missen), which was tightened for room and taken in onto VANCOUVER GOLD (A. Coome), which was eased. SIMON BON ROCKET (B. Stewart), which was following, had to be shifted out wider on the track and caused RESTRAINING ORDER to be hampered and taken wider.
Leaving the 400 metres VANCOUVER GOLD was held up and unable to obtain clear running and near the 300 metres shifted out and made contact with KAPUTSKI, which in turn was taken out onto SIMON BON ROCKET.
DAME JUDARIUS (App. M. McGillivray) raced wide for the majority of the event.
Stewards sought an explanation from Jockey C. Spry as to the reason PEGUNNY SPUR blundered near the 600m. Jockey Spry stated that at that stage he felt that the gelding had shifted out to a 3-wide position and had changed stride. On viewing the patrol film of the incident it was ascertained that the offside foreleg of PEGUNNY SPUR had made contact with its near foreleg, causing it to slip and become extremely unbalanced. Jockey Spry added that from that stage the gelding yielded ground. A post-race veterinary examination of PEGUNNY SPUR revealed that the gelding had sustained a wound above its off fore fetlock and swelling in pastern region and had lost the off fore plate. Trainer M. Tremble will be advised that he must provide a veterinary clearance prior to PEGUNNY SPUR being permitted to race again.
