ROMA TURF CLUB STEWARDS REPORT SAT. 23.11.02

STEWARDS PANEL: J Williamson (Chairman), A Jones & R. Hitchener (Cadet)

WEATHER – FINE TRACK – SAND RAIL – TRUE

RACE 1: ROGUES OF ROMA & LOU’S HOUSE OF HAIR CLASS 2 H'CAP – 1000m

ACKAROMA jumped in at the start making contact with SEARICH, which knuckled on jumping.

PEDRO’S PRIDE, which proved difficult to load will be required to obtain a further barrier certificate prior to next start.

A protest was lodged by A Pattillo the rider of the fifth placegetter TWIN DANCER against the fourth placegetter ROSE BONBON alleging interference over the concluding stages. After hearing evidence from both riders and viewing the stewards patrol film, it was established that ROSE BONBON had shifted in hampering TWIN DANCER and to a lesser degree MAC’S FORTUNE however stewards were of the opinion the ground lost was not sufficient to reverse the placings and correct weight was declared on the semaphored numbers.

At a subsequent inquiry T Watson rider of ROSE BONBON was reminded of his obligations when his mount begins to shift ground.

Over the concluding stages CELESTIAL’S GOLD shifted out hampering DASHER’S GIRL. R Hancock rider of CELESTIAL’S GOLD was reminded of his obligations when his mount begins to shift ground.

When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of HELEN’S BROTHER jockey B Swanton stated that once in behind runners and receiving sand back in it’s face the horse was inclined to climb and race to the outside. Stewards agreed the horse was inclined to race awkwardly. When trainer M Craven was questioned he stated that he had been informed that the horse had led at its’ only previous start on sand at Wondai were it had been successful in winning the race. Explanations from both parties were accepted.

RACE 2: ROMA CONCRETE PRDUCTS & SUNSTATE CEMENT 2&3YO MAIDEN H'CAP – 1000m

Prior to correct weight being given, B Calkin the rider of TRAILER PARK GIRL requested to see video footage of the start as he was of the opinion his barrier stall had been slow to open upon viewing the film stewards agreed with jockey Calkin and TRAILER PARK GIRL was subsequently declared a non-runner and deductions of 8c win and 8c place were ordered.

GREY TRIST and TOP CROSSING were both slow to begin.

A warning was placed on the barrier manners of TOP CROSSING, which proved difficult to load.

Making the home turn, LORD OF MONTANA was held up for clear running behind SHE’S FALLING.

Over the concluding stages AURUKUN was forced to ease when attempting to obtain clear running to the inside of MARCHE NOIR, which shifted in. M Richards rider of MARCHE NOIR was reminded of his obligations.






RACE 3: MISCAMBLE BROS HARDWARE & RURAL SUPPLIES MAIDEN PLATE – 1200m

LOUD BLUE shifted out at the start causing LAVA LOVER and FLASH FLAIRS to be severely hampered.

SMOKE STORM was forced to ease off heels at the 700m.

RACE 4: WATKINS & COMPANY, RAY WHITE RURAL & WATTLE BRAE STUD SERIES CLASS 6 H'CAP – 1200m

TINKER’S FANCY blundered badly on jumping.

When making the home turn both PRIDE OF SYDNEY and FEARLESS RACER were forced to ease and shift out to avoid the heels of the tiring RAW AND RACY.

RACE 5: MOUNTS MACHINERY CLASS 3 H'CAP – 1640m

KENNIFF COUNTY which dislodged its’ rider during the preliminary was inspected by the clubs vet and passed fit to start.

KENNIFF COUNTY was inclined to hang out throughout.

RACE 6: CARLTON DRAUGHT OPEN H’CAP – 1640m

CHIEF DAHAR shifted in at the start hampering MACROSTRIKE (NZ), TOOT ‘N’ GO, NED’S REVENGE and REDACHI.

Leaving the 1400m, CHINA CONSUL was slightly hampered when FIRES OF IRELAND shifted in.

Leaving the 1300m, REDACHI, NED’S REVENGE and TOOT ‘N’ GO were all tightened for room to the inside of CHINA CONSUL, which shifted in. Jockey J Baker was reminded of his obligations when shifting ground.

NED’S REVENGE was severely checked off the heels of CHIEF DAHAR when the pass slackened leaving the 1200m. When questioned regarding this incident C Bryen rider of NED’S REVENGE stated that the horse did not handle the sand and overreacted in this incident.

RACE 7: BLACK TOYOTA STARLET FLYING H’CAP – 1000m

As C Bryen was to be overweight L Roberts replaced him as the rider of PRIDE PACK.

As J Dagan was unable to claim S Richardson replaced him as the rider of TOYSHAN.

Shortly after the start TOYSHANA was forced to check when tightened for room between YALLAKAZAAN, which was forced in by MARCELO and PRIDE PACK, which was forced out by ROMANTIC BAY. Both S Aizawa the rider of ROMANTIC BAY and R Tilley the rider of MARCELO were reprimanded for allowing their respective mount to shift ground when not clear.

Approaching the 800m, ACE RULE shifted in forcing MARCELO in onto YALLAKAZAAN, which was forced to ease.

Approaching the 600m, YALLAKAZAAN shifted out making contact with NASCARMA.
