Race 1: Fairview QTIS Maiden Plate 900m

Stewards declared CRAIGLEA KOLAN a late withdrawal at 8.15 am due to there being no rider available.

The declaration of correct weight was delayed, when the connections of CAPTAIN SPUR, placed second, lodged an objection against the judges placing’s on the grounds that CAPTAIN SPUR had dead heated for first with PLATTERS, which was placed first by the judge. After taking evidence from the connections of both horses, the judges and viewing the official photo finish print, stewards were satisfied with the judge’s decision and therefore under the provisions of AR156 correct weight was given.

CRAIGLEA OPAL (L. Appo), KUNG FU KITTY (R. Kerwin) and CRAIGLEA DIVINE (H. Kim) were all tightened for room between SPIRIT BEAT (M. McGillivray) and C’MON YEVONNE (C. Bryen) which shifted in.

Leaving the 600m C’MON YEVONNE brushed the running rail when racing in restricted room to the inside of PLATTERS (R. Kerwin) and became unbalanced.

Jockey C. Bryen pleaded guilty to a charge under AR87D and was fined $300 for weighing out in a safety vest that had been modified and therefore did not conform to the Rules of Racing. In considering penalty, stewards were of the view that the vest was not modified in an attempt to gain any weight advantage.

Trainer T. Mead’s representative was fined $100 for presenting C’MON YVONNE with incorrect gear.

Race 2: Scotia Class 3 Plate 1000m

Correct weight was delayed to allow M. McGillivray the rider of PLUM BOB and trainer C. Smith to view the patrol footage to establish if there were grounds to protest against the winner. After viewing the available footage, both parties did not wish to proceed with an objection.

Correct weight was further delayed when R. Kerwin, rider of UNCHAINED, made application to be declared a non-runner on the basis that her mount had been denied a fair start. After viewing the patrol footage and taking evidence from R. Kerwin and the barrier attendant assisting UNCHAINED, Stewards found that UNCHAINED, which had been fractious in the gates, began awkwardly and lost significant ground. Stewards were satisfied that UNCHAINED had full opportunity to jump with the field and therefore declared the mare to be a runner and correct weight was declared on the Judge's placing’s. Trainer B. Waldron will be advised that a warning would be placed on the mare's barrier manners.

SARSGHI (J. Baker) jumped in the air at the start resulting in the rider becoming unbalanced and SARSGHI losing ground.

J. Baker (SARSGHI) stated his mount overraced and felt that it resented the cross over nose band.

Near the 600m PLUM BOB and BRADY’N’ME (L. Appo) made contact resulting in both runners becoming unbalanced and PLUMB BOB making contact with the running rail and being eased.

Race 3: Pleasant Hills Class 1 Handicap 1200m

NATURAL MIST (H. Kim) began awkwardly.

THE WATER BOMBER (C. Bryen) was slow to begin.

Near the 500m LUNAR (R. Kerwin) was steadied when racing between HEARTY CLANG (B. Newport) and NATURAL MIST which shifted out slightly.

L. Appo, the rider of ASTRO NASCENTE, reported that after beginning well his mount hung out rounding the turn at the 1000m resulting in him have to restrain from heels and lose ground. He added that ASTRO NASCENTE was not comfortable racing behind the main body of the field and was reluctant to stretch out due to the kickback from the track. He further added that he was able to balance his mount from the 700m and that it ran home fairly in the home straight.

Race 4: Santos GLNG Open Handicap 1640m

Correct weight was delayed to allow the connections of the SHAKES, placed 2nd by the Judge, to view the photo finish print for 1st. Subsequently, they were satisfied with the decision and correct weight was subsequently declared on the semaphored numbers.

LIKE A GEE SIX (R. Kerwin) overraced approaching the winning post on the first occasion.

Stewards will inquire into the reasons for JACK’N’ME (L. Appo) blundering near the 1500m.

A post race veterinary examination of LIKE A GEE SIX which was eased down in the home straight revealed the gelding to be lame in the off side knee. Trainer B. Waldron will be advised that he will require a veterinary clearance for the horse prior to racing again.

An inquiry into was adjourned into the reasons for DANCEFLOOR PRODIDGY (M. McGillivray) being tightened for room and steadied and LIKE A GEE SIX being checked near the 600m until a time and date to be fixed.

A post-race veterinary examination of DANCEFLOOR PRODIGY revealed a small laceration to the off hind cannon.

Race 5: B&R Webster/Newinga Estates QTIS Maiden Plate 1200m

Correct weight was delayed when stewards wished to establish if ETCHED IN GLASS had been denied a fair start. It was established that as the start was effected, ETCHED IN GLASS (R. Kerwin) refused to jump away with the field and took no part in the event. Trainer W. Baker was advised that he would be required to provide a further barrier certificate for ECHED IN GLASS prior to its next race start.

QUECHUA (D. McMaster) and RED BULL (B. Newport) were slow to begin and lost ground.

QUECHUA hung out rounding the turn near the 1200m and when being corrected by the rider, then raced ungenerously for a short distance. QUECHUA hung out rounding the turn at the 1000m.
