Race 1: Midwest Rural Traders Maiden Plate 900m

A pre-race veterinary examination of PAM’S GIRL (T. Williams), which made contact with the outside fence after leaving the enclosure, passed that filly to take its place in the field.

MANDELBROT (W. O’Connell) was tightened for room at the start between PAM’S GIRL and LUCIDITY (H. Williams) when both runners shifted ground.

PIMPAMA (R. Faehr) was slow to begin.

WINNING LEGEND (C. Bryen) began awkwardly.

Approaching the 800m, THYANNO (M. McGillivray) which was racing greenly shifted out and away from PAM’S GIRL and inconvenienced PIMPAMA.

PAM’S GIRL hung out near the 600m inconveniencing PIMPAMA, PAM’S GIRL then continued to hang out until entering the home straight. Trainer B. Waldron was advised that a warning would be placed on the racing manners of the filly.

WINNING LEGEND (C. Bryen) raced wide throughout.

Apprentice L. Tilley reported that KUNG FU KITTY hung out in the home straight.

Race 2: Wallumbilla Cabins Class B Handicap 900m

On pulling up, jockey C. Bryen the rider of the winner PLATTERS, became physically ill and had to be attended to for dehydration on the track by Ambulance officers. As C. Bryen was unable to weigh in, Stewards under the provisions of AR142 were satisfied that PLATTERS had carried its correct weight and therefore gave correct weight on the Judges semaphored numbers. C. Bryen was subsequently stood down from his remaining engagements.

ALWAYS THINKING (W. O’Connell) began awkwardly and lost ground.

DISTORTED CROWN (M. McGillivray) was slow to begin.

C. Bryen, the rider of PLATTERS, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR137(a), the specifics being that he permitted his mount to shift in near the 800m when insufficiently clear of RHYTHM NATION (D. Rewald) which was dictated inwards tightening the running of PUBLICITY (R. Faehr) which was forced to check and lost ground. C. Bryen’s license to ride in races was suspended for a period of 6 meetings, to commence at midnight, 22 February and to expire at midnight 6 March.

Near the 750m, BLACK RHAPSODY which threw its head in the air when being steadied away from the inside running rail, shifted out and was checked from the heels of RHYTHM NATION which shifted in slightly.

Trainer S. Watkins reported that BLACK RHAPSODY (L. Tilley) had lost both hind plates in running and had lacerations to the inside of both hind legs.

A post-race veterinary examination of DISTORTED CROWN revealed the mare to have a laceration to the off fore leg and was lame. Trainer S. Watkins was advised that a veterinary clearance would be required for DISTORTED CROWN before racing again.

Race 3: Brandon and Associates Benchmark 65 Handicap 900m

Trainer D. Rewald was fined $100 for the late declaration of rider for RYDANIC MISS.

A pre-race veterinary examination of RYDANIC MISS which made contact with the enclosure fence passed the mare to take its place in the field.

RYDANIC MISS (D. Rewald) and WHY WARRIOR (W. O’ Connell) were slow to begin.

W. O’Connell reported that WHY WARRIOR did not feel comfortable at any stage of the race and was reluctant to stride out. He added that his mount was under pressure from the 600m and failed to respond to his riding. A post-race veterinary examination of WHY WARRIOR revealed the gelding to have an unusual gait due to some stiffness in both fore fetlocks but was not lame.

Apprentice H. Phillips reported to stewards that the saddle on LISA FASHIONISTA slipped slightly in the home straight and as a result proved difficult to ride out.

Race 4: Bendemere Constructions Bendemere Cup Open Handicap 1000m

TASTEOFENERGY (R. Payne) was slow to begin.

Stewards questioned W. O’Connell regarding the riding tactics adopted on WINDEL TORI and the overall performance of the mare. He stated that he positioned his mount behind leader SPEEDING DRAGON in the early stages, however near the 600m his mount hung out and lost ground from that point. He added that WINDEL TORI continued to hang out until entering the home and as result he was unable test his mount. He further added that he rode his mount out hands and heels in the home straight as the mare was inclined to shift out. Stewards in noting the explanation, advised trainer B. Waldron that a warning would be placed on the mare for hanging out. A post-race veterinary examination of WINDEL TORI revealed a slower than normal recovery rate.

Race 5: Harker Accountants Benchmark 60 Handicap 1200m

DESTINY’S TUNE (R. Faehr) knuckled on jumping away.

COURT YA (H. Phillips) stood flat footed and lost ground.

GOLDEN VOGUE (W. O’Connell) was slow to begin.

Near the 600m TEAM THUNDERSTONE (R. Payne) and COURT YA bumped resulting in both runners becoming unbalanced.

COURT YA raced wide for the majority of the event.

CURRAWEE LASS (L. Tilley) hung out under pressure in the home straight.

Apprentice H. Phillips (COURT YA) reported that her mount was not comfortable on today’s track surface and resented the kick back from the track.
