On return to scale a protest was lodged by apprentice K. Cross, rider of the 3rd placegetter, PRIVATE OFFER, against RASCAL being declared the winner, alleging interference between the 100m and 50m. After taking evidence from the parties concerned and viewing the official film of the race, stewards found that whilst RASCAL was inclined to lay in under pressure inside the 100m, which resulted in PRIVATE OFFER having to be momentarily tightened for room, stewards were satisfied that extent of the interference did not warrant a reversal of placings and the protest was dismissed and the Judge’s placings confirmed.

When questioned, S. Katsidis explained that RED RAIDERS began well today and was able to obtain a position midfield with cover.
