Race 1: PERRY’S HIRE H’CAP - 1100m
1st – Gentle Giant 2nd – Rodrigeuz 3rd – Scene Of The Crime 4th – Carvelon
As B. Pengelly was ill, M. Hellyer was substituted as the rider of BIRDS OF SONG.
KARMA GUTSA (J. Taylor) had a tendency to lay out throughout the event.
Leaving the 700m MYSTIC DRAGON (D. Gill) improved up on to the heels of RODRIGEUZ (M. Cahill) and had to be steadied. When being restrained MYSTIC DRAGON shifted out and was then obliged to race three wide for the remainder of the event.
Apprentice M. Hellyer, the rider of BIRDS OF SONG, which performed below market expectations, advised that after the horse had trialled and worked well, his instructions were to go forward but on leaving the gates the horse felt uncomfortable in its action and in his opinion did not appreciate the track surface and was disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination of BIRDS OF SONG revealed no abnormalities.
A post-race veterinary examination of KARMA GUTSA which finished tailed off failed to reveal any abnormalities.
Race 2: SHADE SECURITY MAIDEN PLATE - 1100m
1st – Swift Cash 2nd – Over Friendly 3rd – Freyadane 4th – Likaphantom
OVER FRIENDLY (J. Holder) and STORM'S BELLE (M. Hellyer) were slow to begin.
LIKAPHANTOM (K. Cross), which was slow to begin, shifted out shortly after the start.
OVER FRIENDLY overraced in the early and middle stages and when being restrained got its head in the air.
LIKAPHANTOM raced wide throughout.
SWIFT CASH (M. Cahill) laid out rounding the home turn.
LIKAPHANTOM laid in rounding the home turn and then raced greenly in the straight when placed under pressure.
FREYADANE (J. Taylor) bled both nostrils during the event. Trainer R. Wilson was advised that FREYADANE would incur a 3 month ban from racing under AR. 53A and must satisfactorily gallop over at least 1000m in front a steward before being permitted to start again.
D. K. Munce, the trainer of SWIFT CASH, reported that he attributed the horse’s improved performance to the fact that he had freshened the horse up subsequent to its most recent start and its form prior to that indicates that it appreciates its runs being spaced.
Race 3: SIGNWAVE SUNSHINE COAST P/L MAIDEN PLATE - 1100m
1st – Adangertohimself 2nd – Beenoble 3rd – Hazrat 4th – Sobo
WATACON (K. Pope) and WIND ZIPPER (P. Wolfgram) brushed on jumping away.
L. Deguara, the rider of BEENOBLE, dropped her whip near the 400m.
SOBO (S. Guymer) and WIND ZIPPER were inclined to lay in under pressure in the straight.
Stewards sought an explanation from trainer J. Johnston in respect of the seemingly improved performance of ADANGERTOHIMSELF as compared to its most recent start when 6th at Beaudesert. Mr Johnston stated that on that occasion rider T. Huxham reported to him that the horse was unable to muster its customary early speed and take up a leading position, and when obliged to settle in a midfield position, Huxham reported that in his opinion the gelding lost concentration. Mr Johnston added that he had instructed Huxham to again attempt to lead today and felt that its ability to do so today had aided its performance considerably.
Stewards sought an explanation from D. Browne, the rider of VIETATO FUMARE, regarding the seemingly disappointing performance of that horse. Jockey Browne stated that the horse travelled three wide but at no stage travelled comfortably on the surface. He further advised that the horse wanted to get out on straightening and once balanced up did not let down and was disappointing. Trainer T. Hall advised that the horse had trialled well leading into today’s run, but was disappointing and he will review the horse’s current campaign. A post-race veterinary examination of VIETATO FUMARE failed to reveal any abnormalities and a swab sample was taken.
Race 4: LOVE & PARTNERS CHARTERED ACCOUNTANTS H’CAP - 2150m
1st – Hollywood And Vine 2nd – Nova Chenka 3rd – Rem’e’can 4th - Apuckshunubbee
SIR KNIGHT (M. Hellyer) was tightened for room at the start between PICK OF DESTINY (K. Sawyers) and APUCKSHUNUBBEE (G. Colless), which jumped out.
PICK OF DESTINY overraced in the early and middle stages.
REM’E’CAN (P. Wolfgram) and MORINGA’S KING (K. Wharton) overraced in the middle stages.
Stewards sought an explanation from trainer’s representative Mr C. Partington in regards to the performance of POINCIANA today. Mr Partington advised that the gelding in his opinion may have raced a little keenly in the lead which resulted in it compounding over the concluding stages and it was now their intention to spell POINCIANA. A post-race veterinary examination of POINCIANA revealed no significant abnormalities.
HOLLYWOOD AND VINE (J. Taylor) lost its near fore plate in running.
Stewards, in consideration of the performance of SASSO today, advised trainer R. Drysdale that if the horse were to perform similarly at its next start, they would have to give consideration to barring the horse from provincial venues.
Race 5: SEARLES GARDEN PRODUCTS H’CAP - 1100m
1st – Volante Cheval 2nd – Outback Girl 3rd – Finagle 4th – Top Puss
TOUCH OF SPICE (P. Hammersley) began awkwardly and shifted out making contact with SHOVELLE (D. Gill).
FLYING STRIKE (M. Walker) was slow to begin.
Shortly after the start FINAGLE (E. Wilkinson) and VOLANT CHEVAL (K. Wharton) were both tightened for room between TOP PUSS (C. Priest) and QUEEN OF THE STORM (K. Yoneyama) which shifted out.
QUEEN OF THE STORM raced wide throughout.
OUTBACK GIRL (K. Pope) was inclined to hang throughout.
K. Wharton, the rider of VOLANT CHEVAL, was reprimanded under AR. 137(a) for permitting his mount to shift out near the 300m when insufficiently clear of TOP PUSS, which had to be steadied.
TOP PUSS shifted in under pressure over the concluding stages.
Stewards sought an explanation from trainer S. Barling in respect of the seemingly improved performance today of VOLANT CHEVAL. Mr Barling indicated that at its first-up run at Ipswich the horse began awkwardly and lost ground, and at its most recent start at Toowoomba it was forced to travel wide for the majority of the event and was forced to race extremely wide around the home turn before tiring over the concluding stages. Mr Barling added that the horse had worked well leading into today’s event and he was not at all surprised by the improved showing considering the circumstances surrounding its most recent performances.
Stewards sought an explanation from D. Gill, the rider of SHOVELLE, in respect to her tactics in the middle stages whereby she allowed the mare to improve to the outside of OUTBACK GIRL when the pace appeared to be quite genuine. D. Gill explained that she had been instructed to ride the horse aggressively at the start and to allow it to run along as it had shown a tendency to overrace when being restrained at its most recent starts. D. Gill added that she would have rather taken a sit behind OUTBACK GIRL but in consideration of her instructions she chose not to do so. Trainer M. Hassam confirmed the instructions and advised stewards that the horse reacts adversely when being restrained and added that in her view the horse’s best performances had been when it has been ridden similarly. Their explanations were noted.
Race 6: XXXX H’CAP - 1100m
1st – Get That Indya 2nd – Coz He Wants To 3rd – Grain Trader 4th – Nero’s Fire
GRAIN TRADER (J. Taylor) was slow to begin.
TORNADOES (J. Holder) jumped away awkwardly and shifted in, making contact with HAYILINITY (N. Yamada).
Shortly after the start TORNADOES shifted in and away from CHENKA STAR (L. Cheshire) and made contact with HAYILINITY on several occasions, resulting in that horse having to be steadied when tightened for room between TORNADOES and KINETIC HEAT (S. Guymer).
GOLD DOWN UNDER (P. Hammersley), CHENKA STAR and COZ HE WANTS TO (P. Wolfgram) raced wide throughout.
GET THAT INDYA (E. Wilkinson) shifted out under pressure over the concluding stages.

After beginning awkwardly, MONASHEE DIVA (L. Deguara) shifted in and made contact with BIFOCAL (D. Browne).
FRENARDI (I. Coombes) was tightened on jumping between NEW JOURNEY (M. Wood) and BELLETRIST (E. Wilkinson), both of which shifted ground.
BIFOCAL had to be steadied off the heels of ROYAL SAINT (R. McMahon) when the pace steadied near the 800m.
FRENARDI and JIMODA (J. Kropp) raced wide for the majority of the event.
Leaving the 300m NEW JOURNEY had to be steadied when tightened between MONASHEE DIVA and JOHNNIEONTHEROCKS (J. Holder) which shifted in. J. Holder was reprimanded under AR. 137(a).
Post-race veterinary examinations of BIFOCAL and NEW JOURNEY revealed no significant abnormalities.
