SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT

As S. Scriven and O. Turpin were injured, riding replacements were made as per the Stewards Race Day Summary.

Due to transport difficulties, the following runners, trained by Ms M. Brosnan, were declared late scratchings at 5 p.m: Race 2 – EXTRAVAGANT MISS and SHEZA SPUR, Race 5 – PIKKORO.

Race 1: CHAPS MENSWEAR CLASS 3 H’CAP - 1600m
1st – Taffy 2nd – Patapinda 3rd – Noisy Scooter 4th – Diehard Trying

MACEDON (B. Evans) was slow to begin.

DIEHARD TRYING (N. Thomas) hung out rounding the first turn.

ZYMURGY (C. Priest) raced greenly during the early stages.

At a point leaving the 1300m NOISY SCOOTER (W. D'Avila) improved up on to the heels of PATAPINDA (D. Browne) and was steadied. NOISY SCOOTER then overraced until the 800m, when it commenced to hang, and did so until approaching the 400m.

Approaching the 500m DIEHARD TRYING had to be steadied and shift out across the heels of MACEDON, which shifted in. Apprentice B. Evans, the rider of MACEDON, was reprimanded under AR. 137(a) for this incident.

Approaching the 400m MACEDON shifted in and momentarily tightened the running of MONTEFALCO (Michael Palmer), which resulted in MONTEFALCO having to be steadied. Apprentice B. Evans, the rider of MACEDON, was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.

Stewards questioned apprentice B. Evans, the rider of MACEDON, regarding that gelding’s performance, which was below market expectation. Apprentice Evans stated that whilst the horse travelled well during the early and middle stages, he felt that leaving the 600m, after looking to improve wide on the track, the horse did not quicken as anticipated and he elected to shift back to the inside in an attempt to secure clear running without being forced to race wide rounding the turn, however the horse, when placed under pressure approaching the 400m, proved disappointing and failed to finish the race off as expected. He further stated that in his opinion the horse may not have appreciated the synthetic racing surface. Trainer L. Gough stated that following today’s performance he will inform stewards should anything come to light in the coming days and would continue with the horse’s current preparation. A post-race veterinary examination of MACEDON revealed no significant abnormalities.

A post-race veterinary examination of TAFFY revealed the gelding to have corneal scarring on the near eye as a result of a previous infection. After the veterinary inspection, sufficient concern was raised as to the amount of vision the horse may have in that eye. As a result, acting under the provisions of AR. 64A, stewards ordered that further tests be carried out on TAFFY prior to the horse being permitted to participate in trackwork, barrier trials or races.

Race 2: CNW ELECTRICAL & DATA SUPPLIES CLASS 1 H’CAP - 1400m
1st – Sophies Special 2nd – Classy Franky 3rd – Flawless 4th – Stainglass

CRAIC OF MAGIC (R. Hancock) was slow to begin.

CLASSY FRANKY (C. Priest) began awkwardly, shifted in and bumped FLAWLESS (D. Browne).

CLASSY FRANKY raced fiercely during the early stages and at a point near the 1200m was checked after improving on to the heels of MISS SANCTITY (K. Pope). CLASSY FRANKY continued to overrace throughout the event, placing its rider at a severe disadvantage.

CRAIC OF MAGIC raced wide throughout.

CLASSY FRANKY was held up in the early stages of the straight and then had difficulty obtaining clear running until the 200m between MISS SANCTITY and STAINGLASS (J. Kropp), which laid in under pressure.

Race 3: HALLCO ENGINEERING CLASS 4 H’CAP - 1000m
1st – Before The Storm 2nd – Beer Nuts 3rd – Krugerrand 4th – Get That Indya

FIAMORE (M. Cant) began awkwardly and shifted in making contact with BEFORE THE STORM (Michael Palmer), which was taken in on to VOLANT CHEVAL (R. Hancock).

BEFORE THE STORM raced wide throughout.

Approaching the 300m BEER NUTS (L. Rolls) was disappointed for a run between GET THAT INDYA (J. Kropp) and BEFORE THE STORM, which shifted in slightly. As a result, BEER NUTS was forced to shift out across the heels of BEFORE THE STORM to obtain clear running.

Apprentice D. McWhinney, the rider of PRINCEOFTHEPLAZA, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under AR. 137(a) in that near the 800m he permitted his mount to shift in when not sufficiently clear of MAKTIG PANIS VITAE (S. Wiseman), resulting in MAKTIG PANIS VITAE being tightened for room on to the hind quarters of CANADIAN CHIEF (C. Priest), causing CANADIAN CHIEF to be turned sideways and further tightening the running of MAKTIG PANIS VITAE, resulting in MAKTIG PANIS VITAE having to be checked and losing its rightful position. Apprentice McWhinney’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 7 meetings, to commence at midnight on Sunday, 20 February, and expire at midnight on Friday, 4 March 2011.

M. Cant reported that in his opinion FIAMORE pulled up mildly distressed. A post-race veterinary examination of FIAMORE revealed no abnormalities.

Race 4: JLP FABRICATION MAIDEN H’CAP - 1600m
1st – Kalinga Echo 2nd – Ivan’s Choice 3rd – Jamdit 4th – Jacta Alea Esto

MORINGA’S SUNDANCE (M. Hellyer), FROM THE SHADOWS (D. McWhinney) and JACTA ALEA ESTO (S. Wiseman) were slow to begin.

After racing wide during the early and middle stages, K. Wharton elected to allow KALINGA ECHO to stride forward to assume the position in the lead near the 800m.

JACTA ALEA ESTO raced wide during the early stages.

STORM’S BELLE (K. Gates) raced wide throughout.

Near the 600m MORINGA’S SUNDANCE shifted out to improve and in doing so made contact with STORM’S BELLE, causing both runners to become unbalanced for a short distance. Near the 400m MORINGA’S SUNDANCE again shifted out and made contact with STORM’S BELLE.

Race 5: SEARITE CONTAINER REPAIRS PTY LTD QTIS 3YO MAIDEN PLATE - 1100m
1st – Prince Liam 2nd – Justaz 3rd – Miaitsu Lass 4th – Casa Star

PERSIAN BOOK (K. Wharton), which slipped over in the enclosure, underwent a veterinary examination at the barriers and was cleared to start.

DRACULATION (J. Wood) and JUSTAZ (K. Gates) were slow to begin.

CASA STAR (N. Thomas) hung out rounding the home turn.

JUSTAZ, which raced wide throughout, hung out rounding the home turn.

JUSTAZ hung in from the 400m onwards, placing its rider at a disadvantage, and over the concluding stages came into contact with CASA STAR which shifted out.

Trainer G. Moon was advised that a warning would be placed on the racing manners of JUSTAZ.

Race 6: THE BIG FISH TAVERN 4YO & UP MAIDEN PLATE - 1100 m
1st – Muckalee Miss 2nd – De Bois 3rd – Combat Cuddles 4th – Analin Star

ANALIN STAR (K. Gates) was tightened for room at the start and lost ground between NOTHINLEICACROWNIE (M. Hellyer), which shifted out, and MUCKALEE MISS (D. Browne), which shifted in.

DE BOIS (N. Thomas) jumped away awkwardly.
