RACE 1
LEGACY HANDICAP 1600 metres

COSMIC SHIRRON was slow to begin.

SHE'S A PARTY which was inclined to pull hard in the early stages of the event got its head up and raced ungenerously until near the 1200 metres.
After passing the 600 metres NEW FAME shifted out to improve and made contact with FLYING OUTLAW
.
Following the running of Race 1 the track rating was upgraded to DEAD.

RACE 2
VETERANS HANDICAP 1200 metres

A pre race Veterinary inspection of ROJAH LIGHT failed to detect any abnormality and the filly was passed fit to start.
The announcement of correct weight was delayed when L. Deguara rider of FREQUENTLY complained she had been denied a fair start as she was not ready when the start was affected. After hearing evidence from starter R. Huxham and viewing the official film Stewards were satisfied that FREQUENTLY had been afforded a fair start and correct weight was given on the judges placings..
At the start SAHARA SOUND was tightened between RIGHT ACE and FREQUENTLY both of which shifted ground. FREQUENTLY made heavy contact with SAHARA SOUND and this resulted in L. Deguara rider of FREQUENTLY becoming unbalanced and losing her left iron. As a result L. Deguara could not regain balance and removed her foot from the right iron.
Shortly after the start SAHARA SOUND struck the heels of FREQUENTLY and blundered.
Leaving the 1000 metres ROJAH VIVIAN had to be steadied off the heels of AGINTOY when the pace eased. LOVE CHAMPAGNE which was trailing, had to be checked off the heels of ROJAH VIVIAN and became unbalanced then shifted in and made heavy contact with SAHARA SOUND causing that horse to be unbalanced.
For some distance prior to the 200 metres SHADOW SHOOTER was held up behind FREQUENTLY.

KEEPING AUSTRALIA'S PROMISE HANDICAP 1000 metres

WE LOVE JAKE jumped away awkwardly and lost ground.

RACE 5
WAR WIDOWS HANDICAP 1400 metres

TREASURE PACK was declared a late scratching at 9.35am when the gelding was found to be lame. Trainer G. Burns was advised a Veterinary certificate must be obtained for TREASURE PACK prior to its next race start.
On return to scale a protest was lodged by S. Seamer rider of 2nd placed EPHESUS against LARGER ridden by M. Paget being declared the winner alleging interference over the final 300 metres.
At a protest inquiry it was established that LARGER had shifted out in the straight inconveniencing EPHESUS and near the 150 metres LARGER again shifted out making contact with EPHESUS causing that horse to become unbalanced. Stewards were of the opinion that the extent of the interference exceeded the winning margin of half a neck and for this reason the protest was upheld and placings amended to 2 : 6 : 3.
When questioned trainer J. Gerrits stated he was at a loss to explain the disappointing performance of PIET HEYN however Stewards requested that they be informed should anything come to his attention which may have affected the performance of the gelding.

RACE 6
