RACE 7
AUSTRALIA PARA OLYMPIANS HANDICAP 1200 metres

Starter Mr. R. Huxham, Club Veterinary Surgeon Mr. P. Hatten and jockey S. Killen were interviewed regarding what transpired prior to the start when CRAFTY GUEST became over fractious in the barriers. Jockey S. Killen explained that CRAFTY GUEST had reared up and struck out which resulted in the front gates being opened however he was not of the view that the gelding had suffered any detriment as a consequence of his behaviour.
Both Dr. Hatten and Mr. Huxham gave evidence that whilst they were aware that the front gate had been opened they were unaware that CRAFTY GUEST had momentarily had its off foreleg between the two gates.
All parties were reminded of the necessity to ensure that all starters are properly scrutinised in such circumstances in future.
Jockey S. Killen was questioned regarding his riding tactics on CRAFTY GUEST and in particular why he elected to race three wide outside ON VENTURA HIWAY and SO EXCITED throughout the middle stages of the event when a position closer to the fence was available behind those runners to the outside of LATIN QUARTER He explained that CRAFTY GUEST had always been a difficult horse to ride and whilst he was aware of the option to take a trailing position behind SO EXCITED he elected not to do so as he felt that the gelding would have raced fiercely in that position. S. Killen also stated that when previously successful on CRAFTY GUEST he felt the gelding had raced more genuinely when allowed to stride along without being unduly restrained. His explanation was noted.
A post race Veterinary examination of CRAFTY GUEST revealed the gelding had sustained lacerations to the off foreleg.

RACE 8
OLYMPIC RINGS HANDICAP 1200 metres

Acting on Veterinary advice SPENBAR SECRET was declared a late scratching at 2.20pm when the gelding received lacerations and bruising to the near hip during transit.
