STEWARDS REPORT Sunday October 8th 2000

WEATHER: Fine
TRACK RATING: Good
Moveable rail out 7 metres for the entire circumference.

GENERAL: As J. Walk was indisposed he was replaced as follows:
Race 1 MONTROSE BILL J. Byrne
Race 3 POSTILI J. Hoopert
Race 8 HAYSECHO B. Compton

Due to an office error apprentice A. Morrison was shown in the racebook as the rider of both ZALZALLA and NORTHERN CRUSADER whereas S. Killen was declared the rider of NORTHERN CRUSADER.

RACE 1
MOMENTUM PLATE 1800 metres

On jumping away MONTROSE BILL shifted out causing NEVER IN DOUBT, GO CHED and TOUCHED BY PEDRO all to be inconvenienced. As a result of this incident a short distance after the start TOUCHED BY PEDRO struck the heels of TELUSTRE and blundered.

When questioned regarding his riding tactics on CLASSIC KIWI LIP jockey C. Small stated he was instructed to lead on the gelding however when MONTROSE BILL improved to his inside he persevered with his instructions resulting in both horses being engaged in a speed battle. Jockey C. Small conceded that in hindsight he should have elected to steady his mount in behind MONTROSE BILL. Ms. S. Adams the foreperson for trainer L. K. Tinsley confirmed the instructions however expressed dissatisfaction with the ride.
Jockey C. Small was advised that the riding tactics he adopted were of major concern and he was reminded of his obligations under the provisions of AR 135(b) to ensure that his mounts are ridden in such a manner that they are given full opportunity to win or obtain the best possible position in the field. Ms. Adams was also advised that the future racing pattern of CLASSIC KIWI LIP will be closely monitored.

RACE 2
COOLABAH PLATE 1800 metres

TRUMP DOMINION was slow to begin.

RACE 3
NEWSPOWER HANDICAP 1200 metres

The explanation of trainer R. Dawson for the late declaration of J. Byrne as the rider of WORD GAMES was accepted.
JUST A GOOD TIME was slow to begin.
Approaching the 1000 metres MONTY’S ROAD had to be steadied off the heels of ZALZALLA resulting in MONTY’S ROAD shifting out inconveniencing THE DON and POSTILI. . Apprentice A. Morrison rider of ZALZALLA was severely reprimanded and advised to exercise more care in future.
FURIOUSITY hung out making the 800 metres turn.
ZARZALLA hung out making the home turn taking NORTHERN CRUSADER wider on the track.
MONTY’S ROAD was also inclined to hang out making the home turn.

RACE 4
SUNSHINE COAST NEWSAGENTS HANDICAP 1200 metres

SEMAJ GIRL was slow to begin.
NORTHERN HEIGHTS reared on jumping away.
EXQUISITE LASS and CAREFUL CHOICE made contact on jumping away.
Shortly after the start CENTUPLE, LOOK AT ME GRACE and NEW THEATRE were all cramped for room between CAREFUL CHOICE and FAST FLORIST both of which shifted ground.
Approaching the 800 metres SEMAJ GIRL shifted in and made contact with the running rail.
Rounding the 800 metres turn NEW THEATRE shifted in and made contact with MISS D’VINA.

RACE 5
SUNSHINE COAST DAILY HANDICAP 1800 metres

JAKE’S THE MAN was slow to begin.
PURPORT jumped away awkwardly.
ALLEZ JAGAAN and BORRACHERA came together at the start.
CARDIGAN was held up for a clear run for some distance in the home straight.

RACE 6
JOHN SANDS CUP 1000 metres

REAL SAY jumped away awkwardly and made heavy contact with the barrier partition.
Approaching the 800 metres CELESTINO shifted in and brushed BOOROONGA.

RACE 7
KAWANA NEWSAGENCY HANDICAP 1000 metres

The start was delayed when PHYLSON dislodged its rider S. Galloway during the preliminaries and was subsequently declared a late scratching at 3.47pm.
On the announcement of correct weight all monies invested on PHYLSON were ordered to be refunded with deductions of 11c in the dollar on the face value of both win and place were applicable.
REDACHI was slow to begin.
Inside the 200 metres L. Deguara rider of REDACHI accidentally dropped her whip.
Trainer Paul Jones was advised that GREAT RELIC which suffered a bleeding attack from both nostrils will now incur the mandatory three month ban from racing.

RACE 8
HALLMARK CARDS HANDICAP 1400 metres

The explanation of trainer L. Freedman for the late declaration of J. Byrne as the rider of GAME HUNTER was accepted.
On jumping away TYCOON HONEY, GAME HUNTER and NED’S DEVINE were all tightened between DANZIGAH and THIS MANSHOOD which shifted out.
THIS MANSHOOD returned to the enclosure with a small amount of blood in the near side nostril.
When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of DANZIGAH S. Killen stated
that the mare did not travel well throughout and when placed under pressure prior to the home turn DANZIGAH failed to respond. Trainer Ian O’Neill stated he could not offer any explanation for the performance of DANZIGAH however he added he would contact the Stewards should anything come to light during the next few days which would account for the poor performance.
A post race Veterinary examination of DANZIGAH failed to reveal any abnormality.



All winners plus GREAT RELIC (Race 7) were swabbed.
