RACE 1
AUSTRALIA DAY CELEBRATIONS HANDICAP 1000 metres
REAL CHIC was inclined to hang out rounding the home turn.
RACE 2
CALOUNDRA CITY HANDICAP 1000 metres
BELL ROAD was slow to begin.
GREY EMPIRE shifted out at the start inconveniencing KUMALA BOY.
BALLYLOOK jumped away awkwardly.
RIP RAWING shifted out at the start and made contact with the hind quarters of LIGHTHOUSE ROAD which then commenced to race ungenerously and attempted to buck for some distance. Trainer Paddy Cunningham was advised that a warning has been placed on LIGHTHOUSE ROAD relative to its racing manners.
Passing the 700 metres BELL ROAD shifted out and made contact with VITAL ISSUE. As a result
WHIZCAT which was following had to be eased to avoid heels.
Approaching the home turn VIZIER shifted out hampering VITAL ISSUE and RIP RAWING.
RACE 3
MAROOCHY SHIRE HANDICAP 1300 metres
BRIDLE WARRIOR and SLIM’S MATE were both slow to begin.
As the gates opened KAKARU reared and lost considerable ground.
Approaching the 1000 metres PESTY BOY improved up on to the heels of LET’S RAW and had to be steadied.
Approaching the 900 metres BEAU REEF shifted in which resulted in PEDRO’S OMRAN and NORTHERN FRIENDS making contact.
SOUTHSIDE GIRL commenced to race ungenerously approaching the 800 metres and shifted out taking SHOPPING wider on the track.
Approaching the home turn PROWLING AROUND shifted out taking PRINCE WILLOW and SHOPPING wider on the track.
Following the running of race 3 the track rating was upgraded to FAST.
RACE 4
NOOSA SHIRE HANDICAP 1600 metres
BAY DUKE was slow to begin.
BANDAGES and SHELLY made contact on jumping away.
LITTLE HERB and PLANOVA also made contact on jumping away.
When the pace slackened approaching the 1200 metres BAY DUKE had to be steadied off the heels of FLYING EMAC and shifted out making contact with BOOEYHACKER.

MR. DIG over raced in the early and middle stages of the event.
IMPOSING MIGHT was forced to race wide in the early and middle stages.
Approaching the 500 metres AL PARLAY shifted out and brushed PLANOVA.
A short distance later MR. DIG shifted out taking ROYAL SEA out on to AL PARLAY forcing AL PARLAY wider on the track.
HALO MAN was momentarily held up for a clear run on entering the straight.
Approaching the 200 metres FLYING EMAC and BAY DUKE improved between IMPOSING MIGHT and the MISTER EDITION. In this incident MISTER EDITION became unbalanced and brushed the running rail.
When questioned regarding the performance of DESK TOP LOVER trainer F. W. Mitchell’s foreman Liam Birchley stated that due to the wide barrier draw he instructed jockey A. Russell to take up a position at the rear of the field. He also stated that the gelding was reluctant to race inside other runners and when making a run to go to the outside of the field and not through the field.
Jockey A. Russell stated that DESK TOP LOVER did not travel well until the 800 metres and raced in a three wide position until rounding the home turn when he was forced wider on the track. A Russell further stated that DESK TOP LOVER finished the race off well.
The explanations of both foreman Liam Birchley and jockey A. Russell were noted.
A post race Veterinary examination of DESK TOP LOVER revealed signs of mild heat stress and the gelding was swabbed.
RACE 5
CABOOLTURE SHIRE HANDICAP 1000 metres
As R Thomas was indisposed he was replaced on OUR SILVER LINING by D. Gill.
MR. OVAN was slow to begin.
RACE 6
REED PROPERTY GROUP HANDICAP 1300 metres
BLESSED TYCOON was slow to begin.
RACE 7
JACK GOWEN OF SAHARA FARMS HANDICAP 1200 metres
Following the running of Race 6 apprentice A. Morrison was stood down by the Club Doctor and was replaced on KING CLAUDIUS by apprentice R. Hancock.
REGAL GENTLEMAN shifted out at the start and made contact with KING CLAUDIUS.
When over racing approaching the 800 metres KING CLAUDIUS had to be steadied off the heels of CRAFTY SILVER.
Approaching the 200 metres CRAFTY SILVER was momentarily held up for a clear run behind REGAL GENTLEMAN.
RACE 8
COCA-COLA HANDICAP 1400 metres
Due to an office error SWAPSEA was declared a late scratching at 10am.
Trainer Rex Lipp was fined the sum of $50 for failing to declare a rider for SADDLE BOY by the required time.
SUNSHINE YALLAH was declared a late scratching at 4.37pm when the gelding became cast in the barriers and sprung the gate opened dislodging jockey J. Taylor and completing a lap of the course. .
On the announcement of correct weight all monies invested on SUNSHINE YALLAH were ordered to be refunded with deductions of 7c in the dollar on the face value of win bets and 8c in the dollar on the face value of place bets.
Trainer J. Fogarty will be advised a further barrier certificate must be obtained for SUNSHINE YALLAH prior to its next race start.

On return to scale a protest was lodged by A. Pattillo rider of 5th placed IMMILUSTIG against SADDLE BOY ridder by J. Stanley being declared 4th alleging interference on the home turn.
At a protest inquiry it was found that approaching the home turn J. Stanley rider of SADDLE BOY directed his mount out from behind the heels of COHESION resulting in IMMILUSTIC being severely hampered which resulted in IMMILUSTIC becoming unbalanced and shifting out making contact with NEVER SEEN.
J. Stanley rider of SADDLE BOY pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding and was suspended for a period of 6 meetings to commence at midnight Thursday 1st February 2001 and to expire at midnight on Friday 9th February 2001.
NEVER SEEN jumped in at the start and made contact with FOREVER GRAND.
All winners plus DESK TOP LOVER (Race 4) were swabbed.
