STEWARDS REPORT Sunday 11th February 2001

WEATHER: Fine
TRACK RATING: Good
Moveable rail out 3 metres for the entire event.

RACE 1
KIDAMAN CREEK HANDICAP 1600 metres

LEGAL EXPRESS was slow to begin.

RACE 2
DUCK CREEK HANDICAP 1000 metres

REAL CHIC, TOOTLE THE FLUTE and RING FOR CINDY were all slow to begin.
EXCELLENT jumped away awkwardly.
Near the 950 metres RING FOR CINDY was tightened for room between CLANGER and SALINITY which shifted out. As a result RING FOR CINDY shifted out and clipped the heels of CLANGER and blundered.
A short distance later EXCELLENT had to be steadied as a result of REAL CHIC shifting out.
EXCELLENT then raced greenly for some distance.
Following the event the Club Veterinary Surgeon reported that ENTITLEMENT returned to the enclosure with blood in one nostril. Jockey G. O’Sullivan explained that the gelding had become fractious in the barriers and bumped its head on the gates prior to the jump.

RACE 3
MELLUM CREEK HANDICAP 1000 metres

Trainer Neville Brown will be interviewed into the reason DANE PARADE was declared a late scratching at 10am.
Acting on Veterinary advice CLINTON was declared a late scratching at 11.47am when the colt was found to have suffered a tendon injury to the near foreleg.
BEAU COURAGE was slow to begin.
POETIC HEIGHTS jumped away awkwardly.
SPECTFIELD shifted out shortly after the start making contact with I’M A WARRIOR.
Approaching the 700 metres I’M A WARRIOR shifted in momentarily and as a result BEAU COURAGE was taken in and had to be steadied of the heels of IN TRYST.

RACE 4
BOOLOUMBA CREEK HANDICAP 1000 metres

SMOKEY HALO shifted out at the start inconveniencing both LIGHTHOUSE ROAD and LEE CHEREE. As a result of this incident the saddle on SMOKEY HALO shifted placing its rider L. Deguara at a disadvantage for the remainder of the event.
LEE CHEREE then commenced to race ungenerously for some distance and attempted to buck. Trainer Dan McCaul was advised a warning has been placed on LEE CHEREE relative to its racing manners.
DANZIP was hampered at the start between ROYAL CALIBRE and WICKY POPO both of which shifted ground.
A short distance later DANZIP was further hampered between ROYAL CALIBRE and WICKY POPO as a result of ACE OF CLUBS being taken in by DARK COURAGE.
Near the 800 metres DAMZIP shifted in abruptly to avoid the heels of RAW CHARM.
At the 500 metres DARK COURAGE shifted in hampering RAW CHARM.

After entering the straight LEE CHEREE shifted in and had to be checked off the heels of RAW CHARM.

RACE 5
LITTLE YABBA CREEK HANDICAP 1400 metres

When the pace slackened approaching the 1200 metres SUNGIFT had to be restrained off the heels of TOMO’S PRIDE and as a result became unbalanced and had to be checked. SOUTHHAMPTON ROSE which was following also had to be checked.
After leaving the 1200 metres SAHARA SUZY had to be restrained off the heels of STEP LADDER which shifted in.
Apprentice D. Evans rider of MAKING EXCUSES accidentally dropped his whip near the 250 metres.
When tiring after leaving the 150 metres ESCOBAH was tightened for room by MAKING EXCUSES when that gelding was taken in by TOMO’S PRIDE which improved quickly to the inside of FESTIVA.

RACE 6
CURRIMUNDI CREEK HANDICAP 1400 metres

Shortly after the start HIDDEN TEMPER commenced to buck and was reluctant to race until approximately the 700 metres. Trainer R. Lipp was advised that HIDDEN TEMPER must pass an official barrier trial prior to its next race start.
OUR MONTANA raced greenly and passing the 1200 metres shifted out and made contact with CLASSY BELLE and near the 900 metres shifted in and made contact with the running rail.
Rounding the home turn CLASSY BELLE shifted out and as a result took GWENIVE wider on the track.
BRIDLE WARRIOR was inclined to hang in over the concluding stages.


RACE 7
OBI OBI CREEK HANDICAP 1400 metres

For some distance after leaving the 1000 metres COUNTESS DERBY was buffeted for room between CRAFTY SILER and BOMBAYSAPPHIRE which was taken in by LIFE ‘N’ TIMES. Ms. D. Gill rider of LIFE ‘N’ TIMES was reprimanded for failing to make sufficient effort to relieve the pressure to runners to the inside.
Apprentice T. Ikenushi rider of SHOW GOLD accidentally dropped his whip passing the 300 metres.

RACE 8
BELLBIRD CREEK HANDICAP 1600 metres

Trainer Alec Banks was fined the sum of $50 for failing to notify a rider for EVALTER by the required time.
Due to personal reasons Stewards gave permission for jockey K. Bell to be released from his riding engagement on JACK’S DREAM and the gelding was subsequently ridden by K. Pope

RACE 9
BELLS CREEK HANDICAP 1000 metres

Trainer John Brydon was fined the sum of $50 for failing to have the Document of Description for LOOKS A LOVER.
Acting on Veterinary advice CIRCLE OF WHITE was declared a late scratching at 4.18pm after the gelding reared in the barriers and sustained small lacerations to both forelegs.
On the announcement of correct weight all monies invested on CIRCLE OF WHITE were ordered to be refunded with deductions of 9c in the dollar on the face value of win bets and 10c in the dollar on the face value of place bets being applicable.

Race 9 Contd.
Trainer Merv. Lewis was advised a warning has been placed on CIRCLE OF WHITE regarding its barrier manners.
LAKES ENTRANCE and BANYULA BRAVE were both slow to begin.
HOLSTARR shifted out on jumping away and made heavy contact with RAINBOW RIBBONS causing that horse to lose ground.
C. Clarke rider of PARIS RUN was found guilty of a charge of careless riding in that near the 800 metres he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of HOLSTARR which had to be checked. In this incident HOLSTARR made contact with the hind quarters of ESELKAY which resulted in that gelding becoming unbalanced.
C. Clarke was suspended for a period of 8 meetings to commence immediately and to expire at midnight on Thursday 22nd February 2001.
Approaching the 700 metres BOLD BABE was reluctant to hold its position inside BANYULA BRAVE and had to be checked.

RACE 10
TOOWAY CREEK HANDICAP 1200 metres

HOUSE OF HORRORS was slow to begin.
When racing fiercely passing the 1000 metres MOONLIGHTER had to be restrained off the heels of YOUTHFUL.




GENERAL: Jockey A. Gillett was fined the sum of $100 for failing to obey a direction of Steward W. Flynn not to smoke in the jockey’s room after being previously being told to desist.
A. Gillett was also reprimanded for being late out to the saddling enclosure prior to the running of Race 7.





All winners were swabbed.
