STEWARDS REPORT Sunday April 4th 2001

WEATHER: Overcast
TRACK RATING: Slow
Moveable rail out 10 metres from the 1800 to the 850 metres then out 12 metres from the 850 metres to the winning post.

GENERAL: As B. Compton was indisposed he was indisposed he was replaced on the following:
Race 3: COLOUR ME ROYAL S. Shield
Race 6 BON MARAUDER S. Shield
Race 8 AFSANI’S MIST S. Shield

As apprentice Y. Oto was advised by the Doctor not to fulfil her engagements today she was replaced as follows:
Race 1 SIR NILE Apprentice Z. Purton
Race 5 LATIN QUARTER Apprentice Z. Purton

As apprentice A. Merritt was indisposed he was replaced on ARIA STAR (Race 2) by apprentice Z. Purton

As apprentice D.Wheeler was also indisposed he was replaced on QUEENSBURY ROAD (Race 4) by D. Crossland.

RACE 1
AMBASSADOR TRAVEL HANDICAP 1000 metres

Acting on Veterinary advice HENRY THE FRUITBAT was declared a late scratching at 12.02pm when the gelding was found to be lame in the off front foot.
On the announcement of correct weight all monies invested on HENRY THE FRUITBAT were ordered to be refunded with deductions of 13c in the dollar on all win bets and 12c in the dollar on all place bets.
FAGAN was slow to begin.
Near the 900 metres WESTERN ARMI laid in and made heavy contact with FAGAN.
Approaching the 800 metres SIR NILE shifted in momentarily taking WESTERN ARMI in on to FAGAN which had to be steadied.
A short distance later SIR NILE shifted out and made contact with TASHARNA LADY.
Approaching the 300 metres WESTERN ARMI shifted out to improve . TASHARNA LADY which was following had to be steadied as a result.
When placed under pressure in the straight WESTERN ARMI was inclined to lay in.

RACE 2
NOOSA BLUE RESORT HANDICAP 1600 metres

COCKY CRUISER was slow to begin.
THE BUDERIM BANDIT raced fiercely in the early stages of the event and making the turn at the 1200 metres shifted out taking RISKY DEAL out on to A’SQUADRO.
Approaching the 200 metres COCKY CRUISER was tightened for room by CAMBIO which was taken in by SEATTLE STRIKE. D. Hayse rider of SEATTLE STRIKE was reprimanded over this incident and avised to exercise more care in future.
A short distance later SEATTLE STRIKE shifted in abruptly away from KEFALOS taking CAMBIO in on to COCKY CRUISER which had to be checked. As Stewards were of the opinion there was no rider error no further action was taken.

RACE 3
ALLROAD SURFACES HANDICAP 1200 metres

As K. Bell was to be overweight he was replaced on MUTINY LADY by M. Smith-Lester. K. Bell was subsequently fined the sum of $100.

Race 3 Contd..
STAR GENT shifted in at the start and made contact with MUTINY LADY.
Near the 800 metres SEA MISSY was momentarily tightened by WORSHIP which shifted in and away from LOVE O’ WAR.
After leaving the 800 metres STAR GENT commenced to race fiercely and shifted in taking MUTINY LADY in on to MY DÉCOR which was tightened on to the running rail.
After passing the 700 metres STAR GENT continued to race fiercely and shifted in making contact with MUTINY LADY.
Leaving the 300 metres STAR GENT shifted out to avoid the heels of LOVE O’ WAR.
Approaching the 200 metres MY DÉCOR had to be checked off the heels of SEA MISSY which shifted in and away from LOVE O’ WAR.

RACE 4
THE MOORINGS HANDICAP 1400 metres

Acting on advice from trainer Tony Hess CONSTANTINE was declared a late scratching at 9.23 am.
The explanation of trainer Michael Lakey was accepted for the reason K. Pope was declared late as the rider on LEG IRONS.
As P. Wolfgram was indisposed he was replaced on TOODALOO by S. Seamer.
The race was delayed when PROSPECTOR KING required farrier attention.
LEG IRONS jumped away awkwardly.
On straightening OEDIPUS shifted out to improve and made slight contact with LEG IRONS.

RACE 5
MIDAS MUFFLERS HANDICAP 1400 metres

MASTER RAIDER was slow to begin.
Near the 500 metres MISS LUCIAN shifted in and made contact with the running rail.

RACE 6
MALENY HOTEL HANDICAP

RANDOM RIVER and CENTUPLE both jumped away awkwardly.
Shortly after the start BON MARAUDER shifted in and brushed KING CLAUDIUS.
Approaching the 800 metres turn RANDOM RIVER shifted out and made contact with ALL MANJACK. As a result of this incident KING CLAUDIUS had to be steadied off the heels of ALL MANJACK.
When racing fiercely making the 800 metres turn CENTUPLE shifted out and had to be checked off the heels of BAR ECLIPSE.
G. Geran reported that near the 750 metres RANDOM RIVER shifted in abruptly and made heavy contact with the running rail which caused the gelding to lose considerable ground.

RACE 7
MEN AT WORK HANDICAP 1600 metres

When racing fiercely approaching the 1100 metres BORRACHERA had to be checked off the heels of CALL TO HONOUR which shifted in slightly.
G. Palmer reported that RENAZZO raced ungenerously throughout the event and over the concluding stages he had to stop riding and straighten the gelding on two occasions.
Both G.Colless (MACARTHUR) and L. Deguara (KADAZZLE) reported their mounts failed to handle the track conditions

RACE 8
PELICAN WATERS HANDICAP 1000 metres

FAST NEDDY and STORMY BLUE both jumped away awkwardly.

When questioned regarding the improved performance of MARCASITE compared to its last start on the 25th February 2001 trainer R. Byers stated that since the filly had come back into his stable he had freshened MARCASITE up and changed its working regime. His explanation was noted.





All winners were swabbed.
