GENERAL: As J Powell was indisposed the following riding replacements were approved:
Race 1 SEX AND THE CITI C Whiteley
Race 3 MISTRESS GRACE S Galloway
Race 5 REGAL ZANE K Pope
Race 6 AUSSIE FLYER D Tanti
Race 7 FAIR PRAISE S Galloway
Race 8 MAXIMUS EQUUS S Katsidis
As M Elliott was indisposed he was replaced on SHERMAN OAKS (Race 2) by B Stewart and on COTTAGE ROOF (Race 6) by L Deguara.
RACE 1: PELICAN WATERS GOLF CLUB HANDICAP - 1800M.
Trainer M Ingram was fined the sum of $50 for failing to declare a rider for SEX IN THE CITI by the required time.
ILLANDO over raced in the early stages of the event.
Following the running of race 1 the track was upgraded to DEAD.
RACE 2: KONICA SUNSHINE COAST HANDICAP – 1000M.
PENCIL shifted out and brushed ARABIAN GIFT on the home turn.
PENCIL was inclined to hang in when placed under pressure over the concluding stages.
VITESSE DE POINTE was obliged to race wide for the majority of the event.
RACE 3: FASTCUP.COM HANDICP – 1200M
LOVE OF LIFE jumped away awkwardly and lost ground.
Approaching the 800 metres BRITISH STORM which was reluctant to hold its position inside SHEOAKS lost ground. SITH WARRIOR which was following had to be steadied of the heels of BRITISH STORM.
Approaching the home turn LOVE OF LIFE was momentarily held up behind MR SHADY.
CRAFTY SCOTSMAN lost the off fore plate in running.
RACE 4: THE RACEBOOK COMPANY HANDICAP – 1600M.
When questioned regarding the seemingly disappointing performance of FIRES OF IRELAND apprentice S Richardson stated that the gelding raced in its customary position of leading however when placed under pressure on the home turn failed to respond to his riding. He further added that in his opinion FIRES OF IRELAND raced like a tired horse. Apprentice Richardson’s comments were noted.
A post race Veterinary examination of FIRES OF IRELAND failed to reveal any abnormality.
RACE 5: COASTAL EQUIPMENT SALES HANDICAP – 1600M.
Approaching the 1400 metres REGAL ZANE commenced to over race and had to be steaded off the heels of SEA SIOUX then shifted out and made contact with CLASSIC KARLA.
After passing the 1300 metres MUHALIA shifted out of its own accord when racing ungenerously.
Approaching the 800 metres WINNING FRIENDS had to be eased off the heels of SEA SIOUX.
At the entrance to the straight WINNING FRIENDS was momentarily held up for clear running.
RACE 6: CALOUNDRA CITY DIVISION 8 HANDICAP - 1300M.
COTTAGE ROOF was slow to begin.
Following the running of race 6 the track was upgraded to GOOD.
RACE 7: SOMMERS FUEL SUPPLIES HANDICAP – 1300M.
As M Carson was indisposed he was replaced on CARRIBEAN BENNY by K Pope.
Approaching the home turn MIRROR when attempting a run to the inside of UNION SQUARE had to be steadied off the heels of CARRIBEAN BENNY.
After passing the 200 metres MAGIC GOLD shifted in under pressure resulting in UNION SQUARE having to be steadied and alter course. S Katsidis rider of MAGIC GOLD was advised to exercise greater care in future.
When questioned regarding the performance of UNION SQUARE jockey B Stewart stated that the gelding raced fairly in the early and middle stages however when placed under pressure UNION SQUARE failed to respond to his riding.
B Stewart further added that in his opinion the gelding raced flat today. His comments were noted.
A post race Veterinary examination of UNION SQUARE failed to reveal any abnormality.
RACE 8: MALENY HOTEL HANDICAP – 1000M.
RAW DIAMOND jumped blundered on jumping away.
After being slow to begin MAXIMUS EQUUS was hampered between TEACHERS and MT. GOWER both of which shifted ground.
A post race Veterinary examination of RAW DIAMOND revealed the filly to be lame in the near fore.
ALL WINNERS WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
