S.C.T.C. STEWARDS REPORT SUN. 06.04.03

WEATHER: Fine
GENERAL: Trainer B Brown was fined the sum of $25 for failing to present OUR GOGNAC with a nose roll at the Gold Coast on March 30th 2003.
As apprentice Cameron Browne was indisposed he was replaced on EMMA'S EXPRESS (Race 2) by Dale Evans and on KWILTIME (Race 6) by Matthew Spriggs.
RACE 1: NATIONAL STORAGE HANDICAP - 1000M.
The start was delayed due to LION QUEEN proving difficult to load. Trainer B McLachlan was advised that LION QUEEN must pass a further barrier test prior to its next race start.
PARIS OPTION and HOLLOW KING made contact at the start.
EFFECTIVELY and SAMSON WARRIOR came together on jumping away. As a result of the contact SAMSON WARRIOR then shifted out making heavy contact with KISS ME ALL OVER causing that filly to be severely hampered and forced on to the heels of LION QUEEN.
Near the 900 metres BERNYARD had to be eased to avoid the heels of FAIRHILL which was taken in by MR BAADOT. Jockey C Reith rider of MR BAADOT was advised to provide more clearance when crossing in future.
RACE 2: CALOUNDRA LIVESTOCK TRANSPORT - 1000M.
RADOMA was declared a late scratching at 10.55am. Stewards will question trainer B Sinclair in relation to the withdrawal of this horse at a later date.
LOUIS THE LIP and SAMMY SEQUALO were cramped for room shortly after the start between RUN BOO BOO and EMMA'S EXPRESS which shifted out.
A post race Veterinary examination of HELLO SPECIAL which performed below expectations revealed the colt to be showing signs of respiratory distress.
RACE 3: AMBASSADOR TRAVEL SERVICES HANDICAP - 1200M.
A pre race Veterinary examination of CLASSY PRINCE failed to reveal any abnormality and the gelding was passed fit to start.
GLADWILL was slow to begin.
SARA DANE had to be eased off the heels of CARLINO near the home turn.
Jockey D Browne and trainer G Kennedy were questioned concerning the riding of CARLINO, particularly from the 600 metres until entering the home straight. Trainer G Kennedy stated that as a result of the gelding compounding at a recent trial he instructed D Browne to endeavour to ride the horse with a trail.
G Kennedy also explained that the horse was immature having its first race start and as a consequence of the disappointing trial he instructed Jockey Browne to ride the CARLINO patiently in the early stages.
Jockey Browne stated that after obtaining a position behind the leader the pace commenced to slow leaving the 700 metres and as a consequence BALRINO BOY moved quickly to his outside resulting in him being pocketed and having to be eased to avoid the heels of UNCLE SHAMOS.
Stewards advised D Browne they were concerned that he had failed to take an opportunity to move away from the rails prior to the home turn which would have avoided him being pocketed.
D Browne indicated that whilst he had been pocketed on the home turn he obtained clear running soon after straightening and the horse did not take any significant ground off UNCLE SHAMOS in the run to the finish.
Stewards noted the explanations however D Browne was advised that he should ride the race as it presents itself and not leave himself open to question.
RACE 4: NUMBER ONE BAR & RESTAURANT HANDICAP - 1200M.
A pre race Veterinary examination of MY BULL'S EYE revealed the gelding to have a small laceration to the head. MY BULL'S EYE however was passed fit to start.
Leaving the 800 metres BANNOCK BAY had to be steadied to avoid the heels of MY BULL'S EYE which shifted in.
BANNOCK BAY brushed the running rail near the 600 metres.
Rounding the home turn DAZZLES shifted out to improve taking MASCOT and WESTERN ARMI wider on the track.
RACE 5: GRIFFITHS PARRY LAWYERS HANDICAP - 1000M.
Acting on Veterinary advice MY BELLADONNA was declared a late scratching at 11.11am after the filly was injured en route to the track.
RACE 6: COMBINED INSURANCE HANDICAP - 1400M.
KWILTIME and BETENOIRE were both slow to begin.
Leaving the 600 metres LATEALEAF had to be eased off the heels of YUKON STAR.
LATEALEAF was held up for clear running for some distance passing the 200 metres.
A post race Veterinary examination of APRON failed to reveal any abnormality.
RACE 7: SPC CLEANING SERVICE HANDICAP - 1600M.
CERTAIN BLITZ which proved difficult to load will be required to pass a further barrier test prior to its next race start.
AYNSLEY GOLD jumped out at the start forcing CERTAIN BLITZ out on to SNOOPS which had to be checked off the heels of MAGIC TUMBLER.
PANAGIA was forced to race three wide in the middle stages of the event.
AYNSLEY GOLD was inclined to over race in the middle stages.
RACE 8: TYRES GALORE CALOUNDRA HANDICAP - 1000M.
NOT ANOTHER jumped in the air at the start.
SPIRIT OF NORWAY shifted out at the start forcing SONIC SWITCH out on to BIRKDALE LAD and GRAND ESTIME.
Approaching the 600 metres SPIRIT OF NORWAY had to be eased to avoid the heels of BIRKDALE LAD.
SPIRIT OF NORWAY was inclined to race ungenerously after leaving the 600 metres.
Apprentice Matthew Spriggs rider of BIRKDALE LAD was found guilty of a charge of careless riding in that near the 100 metres he permitted his mount to shift in which resulted in interference being suffered by GRAND ESTIME and I REALISE.
M Spriggs was suspended for a period of 8 meetings to commence at midnight on Wednesday 9th April 2003 and to expire at midnight on Monday 21st April 2003.
A post race Veterinary examination of SPIRIT OF NORWAY failed to reveal any abnormality.
A post race Veterinary examination of GO ERROL revealed the gelding to be lame in the near side hind leg.
RACE 9: REED PROPERTY GROUP HANDICAP - 1400M.
QUAM CLEERITER was held up for clear running from the 300 metres until leaving the 200 metres.
RACE 10: NEUENDORF INTERIORS HANDICAP - 1200M.
Acting on Veterinary advice NUTGRASS was declared a late scratching at 4.40pm when the horse injured itself in the saddling enclosure.
On the announcement of correct weight all monies invested on NUTGRASS were ordered to be refunded with deductions of 13c in the dollar on the face value of win bets and 12c in the dollar on the face value of place bets being applicable.
LAMOND which had been held up until near the 300 metres had to be eased to avoid the heels of REAL IMPRESSIVE when endeavouring to obtain clear running.
Near the 100 metres MYOBB STAR had to be eased and alter course when BILLY JARRAH shifted nearer the rails.
All winners were sent to be swabbed.
