STEWARDS PANEL: Mr J Hackett (Chairman), Mr D Collingwood, Mr W Geggie, Mr P Gillard.
WEATHER: Overcast
TRACK RATING: Heavy
RACE 1: XXXX HANDICAP - 1000M.
VAL CALAIS and MANSWORD were tightened shortly after the start by SAVANNAH BROOKE and LADY LYNX when both horses shifted ground.
Leaving the 800 metres LION QUEEN had to be eased to avoid the heels of KENTUCKY FOREVER which shifted in.
A short distance later ADDICTED LADY was inclined to shift in and away from KENTUCKY FOREVER forcing GROUCHO ROSE, which was racing to the inside, to shift in and make contact with MACK MACK.
When tightened by SPORT STAR and LADY LYNX approaching the 300 metres ADDICTED LADY had to be eased to avoid the heels of KENTUCKY FOREVER which shifted out slightly. Apprentice L Fitzsimmons rider of LADY LYNX which had a tendency to shift in was advised to take greater measures to keep his mounts straight in future.
Near the 200 metres VAL CALAIS had to be eased to avoid the heels of MANSWORD which shifted out.
RACE 2: SAHARA FARMS PLATE - 1300M.
FORCEFUL LAD was slow to begin.
At the start BRISKLY, HAVE NO FEAR and CIBOLETTA were all tightened between EAT 'N' RUN which jumped away awkwardly and ROJAH AGATORI which also jumped awkwardly and shifted inwards.
After travelling a short distance FORCEFUL LAD shifted out slightly forcing EAT 'N' RUN outwards on to CIBOLETTA.
ROJAH AGATORI was inclined to over race approaching the first turn.
Approaching the 200 metres HIS REFLECTION shifted in abruptly when struck with the whip and made heavy contact with FORCEFUL LAD resulting in both horses becoming unbalanced.
RACE 3: CALOUNDRA RSL HANDICAP - 1200M
When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of CONSIGLIERE jockey K Pope stated that the gelding travelled well until straightening however when placed under pressure and asked for an effort CONSIGLIERE failed to respond to his riding and he felt the gelding was not comfortable in the heavy conditions, particularly when placed under pressure.
RACE 4: JACK GOWEN OF SAHARA FARMS HANDICAP - 1600M.
No racing incidents.
RACE 5: RIRDC HANDICAP - 1300M.
SILVER CASTLE which struck its head in the float when being transported to the course was inspected by the Club Veterinary Surgeon and found suitable for racing.
BALLANULLY was slow to begin.
When struck with the whip near the 300 metres BALLANULLY shifted outwards.
BALLANULLY again shifted out abruptly when struck with the whip near the 200 metres and when being straightened by its rider M Rodd, shifted in near the 100 metres and made contact with MAY ROYAL.
RACE 6: JACK GOWEN OAM HANDICAP - 1000M.
As S Galloway was indisposed he was replaced on PARTRIDGE by M Rodd.
Apprentice Haylee O'Hara rider of VEE ROD was reprimanded for failing to claim down to her registered riding weight.
Leaving the 500 metres BRIGHTFIRE LAD shifted out slightly causing HEELS ON WHEELS to be inconvenienced.
Passing the 300 metres HEELS ON WHEELS attempted a run in restricted room between BEMBEM MARIA and JEWEL OF THE RANCH and in doing so made heavy contact with BEMBEM MARIA.
RACE 7: AUSTRALIAN RACECOURSE MANAGERS CONFERENCE HANDICAP - 1200M.
After leaving the 200 metres CYMBALIST was held up for clear running.
Also leaving the 200 metres SUN OF CLANG had to be eased to avoid the heels of the tiring I'M ARCHIE.
RACE 8: JACK & RUBY GOWEN HANDICAP - 1600M.
S Galloway was replaced on AMBERSAND by C Eaton.
Due to transport difficulties SOMETHING FOR KATE was declared a late scratching at 3.30pm.
DANZIG'S STRIKE was slow to begin.
SNUG HEAT was held up for clear running rounding the home turn and in the early stages of the straight.
Near the 400 metres both REGAL ZANE and CLIQUE shifted ground marginally and made contact.
When questioned concerning the disappointing performance of EMMA BELLE jockey D Browne stated that when placed under pressure on straightening the filly failed to respond to his riding and in his opinion did not handle the heavy track.
Trainer B McLachlan indicated that consideration would be given to easing EMMA BELLE's current preparation.
All winners were sent to be swabbed.
ADJOURNED ENQUIRY
Stewards concluded an enquiry into the reason for HAVE NO FEAR racing without blinkers at Caloundra on 9th August 2003. J Collins trainer found guilty of failing to ensure the horse raced with blinkers and was fined $100.
