S.C.T.C. STEWARDS REPORT SUN. 19.10.03

WEATHER: Fine
TRACK RATING: Slow / Dead
Moveable rail in true position.

GENERAL: As M McDonald was indisposed he was replaced on SAVANNAH BROOKE (Race 4) by M Rice and on VEE ROD (Race 7) by M Rice.

As S Katsidis was indisposed he was replaced on IVOROSSO (Race 1) by J Powell.

RACE 1: BUSLINK HANDICAP - 1400M.

LEICA WINNER jumped away awkwardly.

ADMISCAY and IVOROSSO came together at the start.

Inside the 1100 metres IVOROSSO had to be steadied off the heels of LEICA WINNER which shifted out abruptly.

Approaching the home turn LEICA WINNER was held up for clear running.

On entering the straight LEICA WINNER shifted out to obtain clear running around the heels of EROICA SINGER and in doing so bumped IVOROSSO.

RACE 2: ABN AMRO MORGANS CALOUNDRA STOCKBROKING HANDICAP - 850M.

The starting time for this event was incorrectly advertised in the racebook and should have been shown as 1.06pm.

On return to scale a protest was lodged by apprentice E Simmons rider of 2nd placed LADY OF COURAGE against CARINA DONNA ridden by apprentice M Rodd being declared the winner alleging interference over the concluding stages.
It was established that leaving the 100 metres CARINA DONNA shifted out under pressure and made heavy contact with LADY OF COURAGE on two occasions unbalancing that runner. Stewards were satisfied that the interference warranted a reversal of placings and the protest was upheld.

KALINGA DAMO jumped away awkwardly.

DEXTER'S BOY and LOVELY were crowded for room at the start between MR POSS and LADY OF COURAGE which jumped away awkwardly.

KALINGA EMMA which was slow to begin had to be checked shortly after the start off the heels of CARINA DONNA which shifted out abruptly.

KALINGA DAMO raced greenly in the early stages and leaving the 600 metres had to be steadied after shifting out across the heels of SEA PUPPET.


Following the running of race 2 the track rating was upgraded to DEAD.

RACE 3: BY THE GLASS HANDICAP - 1000M.

TIOLI jumped away awkwardly.

Leaving the 700 metres SUNBEAM ALPINE commenced to race fiercely for some distance and had to be steadied off the heels of MISTER DE BALI.

RACE 4: NORTH SUN COMMERCIAL INTERIORS / KING KONG SALES HANDICAP - 1600M.

TOP HAT CHARLIE which was fractious and turned around in the barriers was examined by the Club Veterinary Surgeon and passed fit to start.
Connections were advised that a warning would be placed on the gelding regarding its barrier manners.

RACE 5: GOUNDREY WINES HANDICAP - 1200M.

Shortly after the start FEEL LIKE A WOMAN shifted in and bumped ABSTRACTED.

FEEL LIKE A WOMAN was inclined to over race in the early stages of the event.

RACE 6: SHUTTLEWOOD BUILDING SERVICES HANDICAP - 1300M.

Acting on Veterinary advice MANREGO was declared a late scratching at 3.27pm after the gelding took charge of its rider and completed a circuit of the course.
On the announcement of correct weight all monies invested on MANREGO were ordered to be refunded with deductions of 3c in the dollar on the face value of win bets and 4c in the dollar on the face value of place bets being applicable.

STRIKE FORCE was slow to begin.

DARBY over raced in the early stages of the event.

Jockey D Browne rider of FLAT was found guilty of a charge of careless riding in that approaching the 800 metres he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear resulting in DARBY having to be checked. KILBRANNAN which was following was hampered as a result of this incident.
D Browne was suspended for a period of 8 meetings to commence at midnight on Friday 31st October 2003 after the expiration of a current suspension, and to expire at midnight on Wednesday 12th November 2003.

RACE 7: PAUL FARRUGIA & COMPANY, ACCOUNTANTS HANDICAP - 1400M.

VEE ROD reared and lost considerable ground at the start.

BANNING'S PAGE was inclined to hang out rounding the first turn and when being restrained lost ground. VEE ROD which was following was obliged to steady off the heels of BANNING'S PAGE.

Approaching the 700 metres CLASSIC KIWI LIP, after improving into a position between VEE ROD and LONG WAY TO RUN, blundered after striking the heels of VEE ROD which had shifted out slightly when still being restrained off the heels of BANNING'S PAGE.

A post race Veterinary examination of BANNING'S PAGE failed to reveal any abnormality.

A post race Veterinary examination of VEE ROD revealed the filly had been galloped on the near hind leg and lost the near hind plate.

RACE 8: SIENA PRINCIPALS HANDICAP - 1400M.

THE GREY TIGER reared at the start and lost ground.

When questioned regarding the riding instructions given to jockey D Craven rider of OUR EXCESS trainer M Mair stated that due to the dead track he had given instructions for the gelding to be in a more prominent position today.
He also added that at its last start he had instructed the rider to be more prominent but after being slow to begin jockey K Pope was obliged to ride OUR EXCESS back in the field.
Jockey D Craven confirmed these instructions and advised that the gelding was inclined to over race in the early stages until he was able to obtain cover inside the 1000 metres. These explanations were noted.





All winners were sent to be swabbed.
