GENERAL: As D Craven was indisposed he was replaced on INKEEPER'S STAR (race 3) by C Whiteley and on MARKNI (race 8) by R Hancock.
RACE 1: CALOUNDRA PONY CLUB MEMBERSHIP DRIVE PLATE - 1000M.
Acting on Veterinary advice DENROSS was declared a late scratching at 9.50am
ABSTRACTED was slow to begin.
ALL OZZIE jumped away awkwardly.
Approaching the home turn ABSRACTED raced in restricted room between MACHTIG MUCHO UNO and GO GAZZA which resulted in ABSTRACTED having to be steadied off the heels of GO GAZZA.
Following the running of Race 1 the track was upgraded to GOOD.
RACE 2: SPC CLEANING SERVICE HANDICAP - 1400M.
NHULUNBUY was slow to begin.
Approaching the 800 metres HILDANE improved up on to the heels of RANCODA and had to be steadied.
CRAFTY SCOTSMAN was obliged to race wide for the majority of the event.
When questioned regarding the improved performance of JUST BROWSING trainer J McCarter stated that at her first start at the Gold Coast on 11th October 2003 the mare was forced to race further back than anticipated due to interference at the 800 metres and was then obliged to race wide for the remainder of the event. Mr McCarter's comments were noted.
RACE 3: CALOUNDRA BLOCKS INVESTMENTS HANDICAP - 1200M.
OUT THERE which was fractious in the barriers was examined by the Club Veterinary Surgeon and passed fit to start.
INKEEPER'S STAR was slow to begin.
M McDonald rider of LUCKY GOLD accidentally dropped his whip at the 400 metres.
When placed under pressure in the straight OUT THERE had a tendency to hang in.
A post race Veterinary examination of MOONGAMBLER revealed the filly had sustained a laceration to the near side stifle.
RACE 4: HOURIGAN'S RETRAVISION HANDICAP - 1800M.
After jumping away awkwardly BROPHY shifted out making contact with DANCING MAN.
Over the concluding stages WHO'S IN COMMAND shifted out under pressure taking CRIMSON GOWN wider on the track.
RACE 5: KAWANA WATERS RESIDENTS HANDICAP - 1000M.
.SPIRIT BREAKER was slow to begin.
RACE 6: INTILLIGENCE HANDICAP - 1200M.
When questioned regarding his riding tactics on ACTIVE COMBAT apprentice M Rice stated he was instructed to ride the gelding quietly throughout the event with cover in the early and middle stages. He was instructed by trainer B Bowditch that under no circumstances to use the whip and to ride ACTIVE COMBAT hands and heels only as the gelding has a tendancy to resent the whip. His comments were noted.
RACE 7: NORTH COAST FOODS HANDICAP - 1400M.
SAGIT HERO jumped away awkwardly.
RACE 8: KONICA SUNSHINE COAST HANDICAP - 1200M.
TROPICAL EXPRESS was slow to begin and lost considerable ground.
From the 600 metres to the 400 metres ORDER ARMS was held up for clear running between VOLCANIC ANGEL and TROPICAL EXPRESS.
Approaching the 200 metres VOLCANIC ANGEL shifted in under pressure and made contact with TROPICAL EXPRESS.
SURESCAY was obliged to race wide for the majority of the event.
All winners were sent to be swabbed.
