PANEL: Mr J Hackett (Chairman), Mr G Ireland, Mr D Collingwood, Mr W Geggie.
WEATHER: Fine
TRACK RATING: Good
Moveable rail out 7 metres for the entire circuit.
RACE 1: CALOUNDRA PARTY HIRE HANDICAP - 1600M.
As S Bayliss was indisposed he was replaced on MIQUELT by M Gray.
FASHION STAR jumped out at the start hampering BROOKES.
Near the 1400 metres CHARLEE BUKIT shifted in and made contact with the hind quarters of FLYING SQUAD.
QUESTION ME NOT was inclined to pull hard leaving the 1000 metres.
When attempting to improve approaching the home turn FLYING SQUAD made heavy contact with CABARITA COUNTY.
D Griffin rider of LA QUALITY accidentally dropped his whip near the 300 metres.
Near the 100 metres QUESTION ME NOT and LA QUALITY made contact resulting in QUESTION ME NOT becoming unbalanced.
Near the 50 metres PHOENIX RULE, which had been laying in in the early stages of the straight, shifted out abruptly forcing QUESTION ME NOT out on to LA QUALITY which had to be checked near the finishing line.
When questioned in relation to the riding tactics on EASYLINE, particularly rounding the home turn and on straightening, S Katsidis stated that the gelding travelled well back in the field and approaching the home turn he elected to follow QUESTION ME NOT as he felt he may be able to secure a run to the inside of that horse on straightening however after being unsuccessful he shifted back to the inside and near the 300 metres attempted a narrow run between FLYING SQUAD and CHARLEE BUKIT however he was again unsuccessful as that run closed and then could not obtain clear running at any stage thereafter.
The explanation of S Katsidis was noted.
RACE 2: CALOUNDRA LIVESTOCK TRANSPORT HANDICAP - 1200M.
CHARABANC was a little slow to begin.
GEOFF'S RACER and VULCAN EXPRESS both jumped away awkwardly.
After travelling a short distance WILL ROCK AND ROLL was inclined to lay in.
Approaching the first turn MR KISEKI was hampered when racing inside of SOVERATO which shifted in.
RACE 3: STEEL-LINE GARAGE DOORS HANDICAP - 1300M.
Prior to being loaded into the barriers MEDIA PLAYER was examined by the Club Veterinary Surgeon and passed fit to race.
KALINGA ROAD, HIDDEN JEWELS, WOOMANOOKA SONG and MEDIA PLAYER were all slow to begin.
RACE 4: MIDAS CAR CARE SYSTEM HANDICAP - 1000M.
HEIKI LASS jumped in the air and lost ground at the start.
ANGEL ANNIE jumped away awkwardly.
Approaching the home turn AURORA ANORA raced in restricted room inside CHOSEN PRINCESS which was inclined to lay in and away from LIGHT THE PIPE.
Near the home turn KELTATT'S GEM which was inclined to lay out, had to be eased to avoid the heels of BRAVE ACTION.
Trainer Jan Wright was advised that LIGHT THE PIPE which bled from both nostrils will now incur the mandatory three month ban from racing.
RACE 5: BRACKEN RIDGE TAVERN HANDICAP - 1400M
No racing incidents.
RACE 6: CORBOULD PARK BOOKMAKERS HANDICAP - 1200M.
EMINENT CHEVAL was forced to race wide throughout.
Trainer L Birchley notified Stewards prior to the commencement of racing that due to its racing program in this preparation he had informed J Powell to ride HELTER SKELTER back in the field in an effort to have the horse settle in its races.
J Powell informed Stewards he had been instructed to ride the horse quietly and from the barrier draw anticipated HELTER SKELTER to settle back in the field.
When questioned in relation to the horse settling last J Powell stated that whilst it was always intended that the horse be ridden back in the field he felt he had no option other than to go back to the rear to gain a position on the rails as he was initially placed four wide outside of GLADMAC after travelling a short distance.
J Powell also reported that it is the intention of the connections that HELTER SKELTER be ridden in this manner in this preparation.
His explanation was noted.
RACE 7: JOHN R TURK ELECTRICAL SUPPLIERS HANDICAP - 1600M.
Stewards approved the late notification of M Rice as the rider of L'ELEVE following M Rice being dually engaged.
M Carson was also notified as the rider of BETENOIRE after jockey declaration deadline. Following an explanation no action was taken.
TOOLBOX was slow to begin.
THE GREY TIGER jumped away awkwardly and lost ground.
Approaching the first turn WILD BY NATURE which had a tendancy to lay in had to be eased off the heels of STEAL A MARCH and in doing so shifted out and made contact with BETENOIRE.
Approaching the 1200 metres SUTTON DANCER raced ungenerously and shifted out taking TOOLBOX wider on the track.
THE GREY TIGER had difficulty obtaining clear running over the latter stages of the event.
RACE 8: LOVE & PARTNERS HANDICAP - 1400M.
JAFFAJACK was slow to begin.
CONGREGATE jumped away awkwardly.
After jumping away awkwardly TANAH MERA shifted out and made contact with CITY RHYTHM.
Trainer M Mair was advised that CITY RHYTHM which bled from both nostrils for the second time, will now incur a lifetime ban from racing in Australia.
TANAH MERA hung out on straightening and continued to do so placing D Evans at a disadvantage in testing his mount over the concluding stages.
A post race Veterinary examination of TANAH MERA failed to reveal any abnormality however it was reported that filly had sprung the near side plate.
Trainer Michael Tidmarsh was advised that TANAH MERA would be required to trial satisfactorily before being permitted to race again.
All winners plus LIGHT THE PIPE (Race 4) and CITY RHYTHM (Race 8) were sent to be swabbed.
