TRACK RATING: Good

GENERAL: As S Galloway was indisposed he was replaced as follows:
Race 1: BURNLINE M Carson
Race 3: MR. ROMANY D Evans
Race 5 INVESTMENT BANKER D Griffin
Race 6 HOODED GEM D Evans
Race 7 FLYING KIWILA H Hoopert
Race 8 KNOTTY C Eaton

As M Dale was indisposed he was replaced on CIMARRON TRAIL (Race 1) by M Usher.

RACE 1: MIX FM HANDICAP - 1600M.

Acting on Veterinary advice KALINGA ROAD was declared a late scratching at 12.19pm after the gelding sustained an injury to its mouth.
On the announcement of correct weight all monies invested on KALINGA ROAD were ordered to be refunded with deductions of 2c in the dollar on the face value of win bets and 2c in the dollar on the face value of place bets being applicable.

At the start BURNLINE was tightened for room between LION'S REIGN which shifted in and CIMARRON TRAIL which shifted out.

Leaving the 1500 metres BURNLINE was inclined to lay in and away from LION'S REIGN hampering CIMARRON TRAIL.

Rounding the home turn CIMARRON TRAIL raced in restricted room to the inside of LION'S REIGN.

GOLDEN OSCAR raced wide throughout the event.

RACE 2: OFFICE NATIONAL CALOUNDRA HANDICAP - 1300M.

BELLISSIMO MISS was declared a late scratching at 11.17am when the filly was injured in the float en route to the course.

CHARNE ROSE was inclined to over race in the early stages of the event.

Near the 1000 metres the saddle on ANCIENT KING shifted to the off side placing its rider C Spry at a disadvantage for the remainder of the event.

Rounding the home turn LADY FLICK was held up for clear running and leaving the 300 metres was disappointed for a run between CHARNE ROSE and TED'S CHOICE which shifted in.

GEOFF'S RACER was obliged to race wide throughout.

RACE 3: MARY HENZELL REAL ESTATE PLATE - 1000M.

On return to scale a protest was lodged by M Usher rider of 2nd placed ARMIDALE HEIGHTS against MEMPHIS EXPRESS ridden by S Shield being declared the winner alleging interference soon after the start.
At a protest hearing it was determined that whilst MEMPHIS EXPRESS did shift in and tighten the running of ARMIDALE HEIGHTS which had to be checked, Stewards found that the ground lost by ARMIDALE HEIGHTS did not have a material effect on the result and therefore the protest was dismissed.

At a subsequent inquiry S Shield rider of MEMPHIS EXPRESS was found guilty of a charge of careless riding in that shortly after the start he permitted his mount to shift in when riding it along, resulting in ARMIDALE HEIGHTS being tightened for room and taken in on to FAITH IN A FLASH which resulted in ARMIDALE HEIGHTS having to be checked and FAITH IN A FLASH to be severely hampered. Following on from this incident FAITH IN A FLASH and OPERA DIVA which was racing to the inside continued to shift in resulting in MISS LEHAR and MR ROMANY being hampered.

S Shield was suspended for a period of 8 meetings to commence at midnight and to expire at midnight on Sunday 4th January 2004.


ALLY BEE reared at the start and lost considerable ground.
Trainer Trevor Miller was advised a warning has been placed on ALLY BEE regarding its barrier manners.

CHELSEA BELLE was slow to begin.

TROOPER DANE knuckled over on jumping.

SHE'S FANTASTIC was tightened for room at the start between FIFTH ELEMENT which shifted out and LA BELLE CHANCE which shifted in.

Leaving the 300 metres MISS LEHAAR shifted out under pressure and had to be steadied off the heels of LOOK AT HIM.

When tiring near the 200 metres LOOK AT HIM shifted in and tightened the running of MISS LEHAAR which had to be steadied.

RACE 4: JOHN WILSON & PARTNERS HANDICAP - 1000M.

EXTERNAL FLAME jumped away awkwardly and made heavy contact wih the starting gate.

Approaching the 500 metres ETERNAL FLAME was held up for clear running.

RACE 5: CADET TRAINING & EMPLOYMENT HANDICAP - 1600M.

THE FORECASTER jumped out at the start and made contact with THE GREY TIGER.

HERB'S CHARIOT jumped out at the start and made contact with BE NICE.

Approaching the 1200 metres INVESTMENT BANKER began to race ungenerously and when being restrained shifted in and tightened the running of WORKING CLASS MAN which had to be steadied.

RACE 6: PLACE MAT KITCHENWARE HANDICAP - 1200M.

CLANGER and AMAIZCAY were both slow to begin.

Shortly after the start MUSIC STAR was crowded for room and became very unbalanced between PROMISING JOY and HOODED GEM which was taken in by JESTICA. As a result of this incident HOODED GEM had to be steadied.

Passing the 800 metres PROMISING JOY had to be steadied off the heels of JESTICA. As a result RENOIRVISTA which was following had to be checked off the heels of PROMISING JOY.

PITCH BLACK raced wide throughout the event.

When questioned regarding the performance of PROMISING JOY apprentice Y Yamazaki stated that after being difficult to load the horse became fractious in the barriers and when being steadied off the heels of JESTICA in the early stages began to over race. He added that when placed under pressure in the straight the horse failed to run on and under the circumstances he felt PROMISING JOY was disappointing. His comments were noted.

A post race Veterinary examination of PROMISING JOY failed to reveal any abnormality other than horse lost the near fore plate during the event. PROMISING JOY was sent to be swabbed.

RACE 7: COASTAL EQUIPMENT SALES HANDICAP - 1200M.

ST. MALO was slow to begin.

Approaching the 800m when crossing to the lead SWEETDEE made heavy contact with the running rail. RAFSO which was following had to be steadied. L. Appo the rider of SWEETDEE was cautioned for shifting in at too acute an angle.

When questioned regarding the improved performance of THESPIAN PRINCE trainer D Duryea stated that the gelding has had foot problems over the previous twelve months however he has now been able to correct this problem. He also stated that THESPIAN PRINCE has been freshened up since its previous start at Doomben and had a gear change where blinkers were added today. His comments were noted.

When questioned regarding the performance of RETSIL which finished a distant last apprentice C Spry stated that the gelding raced ungenerously in the early stages and when placed under pressure failed to run on.
A post race Veterinary examination of RETSIL failed to reveal any abnormality.

RACE 8: HUDSON BUILDING SUPPLIES HANDICAP - 1200M.

Trainer L Birchley was fined the sum of $50 for failing to declare a rider for DISCORD by the required time.

LOCAL was slow to begin.

Approaching the 800 metres the saddle on PERUGINE STAR shifted forward.




All winners plus PROMISING JOY (Race 6) were sent to be swabbed.
