PANEL: Mr C Waller (Chairman), Mr A Reardon, Mr G Ireland, Mr D Collingwood.
WEATHER: Fine
TRACK RATING: Slow / Dead
Moveable rail out 7 metres for the entire circuit.
GENERAL: Due to transport difficulties both HIPPY (Race 3) and REAL DREAM (Race 6) were declared late scratchings at 11.32am.
RACE 1: CALOUNDRA LAW HANDICAP - 1600M.
Trainer Brian Smith was fined the sum of $50 for failing to declare a rider for MISS CICERAO by the prescribed time.
No racing incidents.
Following the running of Race 1 the track rating was upgraded to DEAD.
RACE 2: COMPUTERCUT SIGNS & PRINTING HANDICAP - 1200M.
OUR ALLEY, NOISY AND NICE and LOCAL BLOKE were all slow to begin.
At the start DON PICCOLO jumped in and made contact with JUST A GIGOLO.
As the pace slackened near the 900 metres TRAVEMONDE over raced up on to the heels of JO BRO. As a result TRAVEMONDE shifted out taking SEAINTA and TRIPLE IT WILL wider on the track.
After passing the 800 metres JUST A GIGOLO shifted in and made contact with the running rail and became unbalanced.
Rounding the home turn LOCAL BLOKE was held up behind the heels of TRIPLE IT WILL.
DECANTER LASS was obliged to race wide throughout.
A post race Veterinary examination of TRAVEMONDE revealed the gelding sustained a small laceration to the outside of the near fore.
RACE 3: CALOUNDRA BLOCK INVESTMENTS HANDICAP - 1000M.
After passing the 800 metres VULCAN NYMPH shifted in and away from GLOBAL ATTACK and made heavy contact with the running rail. VULCAN NYMPH then raced awkward for some distance.
Near the 200 metres GLOBAL ATTACK had to be steadied off the heels of ROADIE RAN which shifted in under pressure. M Rice rider of ROADIE RAN was advised to exercise more care when shifting ground.
Jockey Glen Hatt rider of FULMINEO accidentally dropped his whip at the 100 metres.
A post race Veterinary examination of GLOBAL ATTACK revealed the gelding to be lame in the near hind. Stable representative for trainer John Wallace was advised a Veterinary certificate must be obtained for GLOBAL ATTACK prior to its next race start.
A post race Veterinary examination of VULCAN NYMPH revealed filly lost a tooth during the event.
As jockey Jason Hoopert was stood down by the Club Doctor following Race 3 he was replaced on LORD MAYOR (Race 6) by M Carson and on ROSUMA (Race 8) by M Usher.
RACE 4: BLACKLAW CIVIL CONTRACTORS - 1000M.
BULL BLINCO was slow to begin.
After leaving the 800 metres OH KITTY shifted in taking CHOLLA in on to FIZZY GIRL which had to be momentarily steadied off the heels of FAIR ACCENT.
BRINY WAG which was following shifted out taking TOP'S LAD wider on the track.
After passing the 600 metres SERENOTE was tightened for room between TOP'S LAD and CRAIGLEA BABA which shifted out.
CRAIGLEA BABA which was racing greenly, shifted out abruptly rounding the home turn taking SERENOTE on to the hind quarters of TOP'S LAD and had to be steadied.
RACE 5: CENTREPOINT APARTMENTS HANDICAP - 1800M.
HERB'S CHARIOT jumped away awkwardly.
Passing the 1600 metres AURORA ANORA which was over racing, shifted out taking UMALORD out on to the heels of FLATTER.
When being restrained rounding the first turn DESERT MUSIC over reacted and threw its head up for some distance.
A post race Veterinary examination of UMALORD failed to reveal any abnormality.
RACE 6: MEN AT WORK LABOUR HIRE HANDICAP - 1200M.
GAELIC HONOUR and FASCINATIONS were both slow to begin.
ICY SNIP raced fiercely in the early and middle stages of the event.
Approaching the 200 metres CELTIC DANE had to be steadied off the heels of I'M ARCHIE which shifted out. S Katsidis rider of I'M ARCHIE was adivsed to exercise more care when shifting ground in future.
Jockey Adam Morrison rider of MR. HOTSHOT was reprimanded for weighing in in excess of 1/2kg overweight.
Trainer Bruce McLachlan was advised that GAELIC HONOUR which suffered a bleeding attack, will now incur a mandatory three month ban from racing.
GAELIC HONOUR was sent to be swabbed.
RACE 7: CALOUNDRA CRASH REPAIRS HANDICAP - 1400M.
FINNIGAN jumped out at the start and made contact with FLYING FEATHERS.
NAUDERS was tightened at the start between NEGATE and ROW BOAT.
Trainer Andrew Williamson was asked to explain his instructions to apprentice Angie Williams rider of NEGATE. Mr Williamson stated he had expected NEGATE to lead but had advised apprentice Williams to ride the horse quietly in the early stages as he was confident the gelding would lead.
Miss Williams confirmed the instructions however stated that after shifting in at the start NEGATE commenced to race fiercely and she was unable to restrain the gelding for the remainder of the event.
Stewards reprimanded apprentice Williams for her lack of effort in restraining NEGATE near the 800 metres.
FLYING FEATHERS was inclined to hang out throughout the event.
A post race Veterinary examination of FINNIGAN failed to reveal any significant findings.
RACE 8: GLOBAL TELEVISION HANDICAP - 1300M.
DISCORDS jumped away awkwardly.
DISPORTS and OFFICE BOY were slow to begin.
Apprentice Todd Pannell rider of DISCORD pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding in that near the 1100 metres he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of DISPORTS resulting in NORSTAR being taken in on to the heels of OFFICE BOY which had to be checked. In this incident DISPORTS was also inconvenienced.
Apprentice Pannell was suspended for a period of 6 meetings to commence at midnight on Wednesday 3rd March 2004 and to expire midnight on Friday 12th March 2004.
Approaching the 1000 metres LUX shifted out taking REMI BRANDY wider on the track.
Near the 800 metres COOPER KING raced in restricted room to the inside of EASY ROAD which shifted in.
DISPORTS was obliged to race wide in the middle stages of the event.
Approaching the 700 metres ROSUMA was tightened for room between DISPORTS which shifted in and OFFICE BOY which was taken out by COOPER KING.
After leaving the 200 metres LUX shifted out under pressure making contact with MAY THUNDER. M Rice rider of LUX will be interviewed in relation to this matter.
A post race Veterinary examination of DISCORD revealed the gelding to be lame in the near hind.
Trainer L Birchley will be advised that a Veterinary certificate will be required for DISCORD prior to its next race start.
All winners plus GAELIC HONOUR (Race 6) were sent to be swabbed.
