RACE 1: BRUCE MCLACHLAN FILLIES AND MARES MAIDEN H'CAP - 1400M.

AGITATED, which having its first start, was slow to move, losing ground.

Near the 200m., ALCIPPE and AGITATED bumped.


RACE 2: JOHN O'BRIEN ENTIRES AND GELDINGS MAIDEN H'CAP - 1400M.

At the start, SHED THE LIGHT, which was fractious in the barriers, was taken out of the gates, inspected by the club's veterinary surgeon and passed fit to start.

On jumping away, SHED THE LIGHT shifted out, tightening PROPHECIES on to FREEWILL.

At the start, MICHAELWIN and YANADA MUNDARA were slow to move, losing ground.

Near the 1100m., FREEWILL steaded from the heels of SHED THE LIGHT and threw its head in the air.

CHIEN raced fiercely near the 800m. and was inclined to lay out for some distance.

Near the 500m., SHED THE LIGHT struck the running rail.

PROPHECIES raced greenly in the straight.


RACE 3: CALOUNDRA R.S.L. 3YO MAIDEN H'CAP - 1000M.

SWEEP CLEAR was slow to move when the gates were released, losing ground.

On jumping away, ANNIES ATTITUDE was tightened for room between KANDJUM and CANADIAN KATE.

At the start, FOXTROT GUN and SWEEP CLEAR brushed.

Approaching the 700m., TOP'S LAD steadied from the heels of COLD SPRING TEA and shifted out, bumping MAROON MAN on to BATTLE SCREAM, forcing them wider on the track.

As ANNIES ATTITUDE was leaving the enclosure, the filly dislodged K. Cunningham, giving her a harmless fall.

The club's veterinary surgeon reported that KANDJUM, which broke down near the 200m. and was pulled up, was lame in the near fore knee. Trainer K. Pattillo was informed he would have to provide a veterinary certificate of soundness beofre starting KANDJUM again.


RACE 4: KYLIE CUNNINGHAM CLASS 1 H'CAP - 1600M.

At the start, ICE BIRD and BIG DANCE were slow to move, losing ground.

For some distance near the 1400m. when being restrained, DIAMOND TIME threw its head in the air.

For a short distance rounding the home turn, VACINTA ROSE was held up for a clear passage between ARTISTIC FAME and BERNY TO.

When racing wide, ICE BIRD and BERNY TO were forced to cover extra ground for the major part of the race.

Jockey J. Taylor was questioned over the apparent disappointing performance of MARAUDING RULER. Jockey Taylor stated that the gelding had dipped near the 500m., and then was unable to obtain a clear passage until near the 300m.. Once clear under hard riding, MARAUDING RULER failed to run into the race. He felt that the gelding would be better suited over a longer journey.

The club's veterinary surgeon reported that BERNY TO had a small laceration to the inside of the left nostril on return to the enclosure.


RACE 5: HORSE OF THE YEAR 2003/2004 CLASS 2 H'CAP - 1200M.

MYSTIC ACE was a late scratching on veterinary advice at 2.20 p.m. after the gelding sustained a haematoma over the near-side elbow in its float en route to the course. Trainer C. Dawson was advised that he would be required to produce a veterinary certificate of soundness for MYSTIC ACE prior to its next race start.

When the gates were released, CHA CHA D'AMOUR and SPEED AND CLASS were slow to begin, losing ground.

Near the 1000m., GULF COUNTRY steadied from the heels of SCHNEIDEN.

MANATAR raced fiercely from the 1000m. to near the 700m. when eased from the heels of WAIKATO.

Making the home turn, CHA CHA D'AMOUR (B. Grimston) shifted out abruptly, forcing SPEED AND CLASS extremely wide on the track. Apprentice Grimston was shown the patrol film and told to exercise greater care in future.

Near the 250m., BOLD MOLLY eased to avoid the heels of COGNISANT (B. Stewart), which shifted out. Jockey Stewart was told to exercise more care when attempting to secure a clear run.

GULF COUNTRY was held up for a clear passage from the home turn until near the 50m. when racing behind OUT THERE.

WAIKATO raced wide for the major part of the event.


RACE 6: LEANNE CROOK MEMORIAL OPEN H'CAP - 1400M.

On jumping away, DANEFULL dipped and shifted in, bumping STARS IN BARS.

Near the 200m., ALL CHEER eased to avoid the heels of PITCH BLACK.


RACE 7: KEN POPE CLASS 1 H'CAP - 1000M.

Near the 700m., COAL BAY and LOOK AT HIM brushed.

From its wide barrier, KNOWALL ANGEL was forced to cover extra ground for the entire journey.

Near the 500m., RAYMONDS REWARD, which was racing fiercely, steadied from the heels of LOOK AT HIM.

Making the home turn, RAYMONDS REWARD shifted out, brushing VICTORY HONOURS on to GOLDLANI and KNOWALL ANGEL.

Near the 200m., LETS TOUCH BASE shifted out to obtain a clear passage, bumping SHEER VICTORY.


ALL WINNERS WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
