RACE 1: QRSE KAWANA NEWSAGENCY CLASS 4 H'CAP - 1000M

As the gates were released OUTBOARD reared and lost ground.

PICTURE BOOK jumped awkwardly and also lost ground.

RACE 2: SUNSHINE COAST NEWSAGENTS CLASS 1 H'CAP - 1000M

As D. Browne was indisposed through injury, B. Stewart was substituted as the rider of DANTELL, A. Pattillo as the rider of IN EXTREMIS (Race 7) and S. Scriven as the rider of CHA CHA D'AMOUR (Race 8).

TENT was slow to begin.

SHE'S ALL GREEK jumped awkwardly and shifted in.

Approaching the 800m BUCK'S PEARL began to overrace and became awkward on the heels of SHE'S ALL GREEK. When steadied, BUCK'S PEARL got its head up and shifted out taking DANTELL out on to RAYMONDS REWARD. RAYMONDS REWARD was then obliged to race wide from that point. Shortly after this, BUCK'S PEARL continued to overrace for some distance.

TENT laid in approaching the 250m until the concluding stages despite the efforts of its rider S. Katsidis.

Stewards questioned trainer M. Mair over TENT laying in in the straight and as Mr Mair had no specific explanation for TENT's racing manners, stewards placed a warning on the gelding.

Stewards questioned jockey B. Stewart over the performance of DANTELL and he stated that after the horse jumped reasonably, approaching the 800m he was crowded from the inside when BUCK'S PEARL shifted out. He said from that point he never travelled and from the 300m when placed under pressure, DANTELL failed to run on.

RACE 3: QRSE NEWSXPRESS WINNING MAIDEN PLATE - 1200M

ROJAH SANDS overraced during the early stages and laid out rounding the home turn and for some distance in the straight.

Jockey S. Galloway (NORANI STAR) was reprimanded for allowing his mount to shift in over the concluding stages and in doing so momentarily tightening ROJAH SANDS on to TOP'S LAD, resulting in ROJAH SANDS having to be eased. S. Galloway was reminded of his duty to exercise more care in similar circumstances or more severe action would be taken.

Trainer T. Davies (WOODEN DANCE) was instructed to correct his stable return for the ownership of that filly before racing again.

RACE 4: NEWSPOWER MAIDEN H'CAP - 1600M

KINGLINESS and FREEWILL were slow to begin.

Approaching the 1200m BARBARY rolled out and became momentarily awkward on the heels of KINGLINESS and had to be steadied.

Stewards questioned jockey S. Katsidis over the performance of DREAM GAL and he stated that he was instructed to travel off the pace if possible as the horse had pulled hard last start. He felt that in the early stages to race closer than what he did, which was a little bit worse than mid-field, he would have had to have fired DREAM GAL up to obtain a position closer, and because of the filly pulling last start he was hesitant to do so and felt that she settled nicely underneath him worse than mid-field. He did state that rounding the home turn he was momentarily held up behind SPIRIT OF BROADWAY and then shortly after, on straightening, he was able to obtain clear running after he shifted out abruptly. He said DREAM GAL responded during the early stages of the straight but over the concluding stages was found wanting. He did feel that on today's performance that DREAM GAL would be better suited to longer distance races.

RACE 5: SUNSHINE COAST DAILY CLASS 3 H'CAP - 1300M

WHAT A LANDING and MONICA EL came together on jumping.

Stewards questioned trainer N. Peterson's representative, Mr Bashford, in relation to the seemingly disappointing performance of SILENT THOUGHT. Mr Bashford indicated that S. Katsidis had advised him upon returning to the enclosure that the horse travelled well throughout the event but when placed under pressure in the straight failed to respond to his riding. Mr Bashford could offer no specific reason for the disappointing performance but did advise stewards that the gelding has had a number of runs in this campaign and may not have been suited to the step up to the 1300m of today's event. He further advised that Mr Petersen would now consider spelling the horse. SILENT THOUGHT underwent a veterinary examination and no abnormalities could be found and the horse was sent for a routine swab. Mr Bashford was also instructed that should anything be amiss with SILENT THOUGHT after returning to the stable, either Mr Petersen or himself should contact stewards immediately.

RACE 6: ALARM INDUSTRIES H'CAP - 1600M

Trainer L. Gough was fined $50 for failing to declare a rider for FINNIGAN by the prescribed time.

SCENIC WELLS, FINNIGAN and KIWI WARRIOR were all slow to begin.

As the pace slackened leaving the 1300m, KIWI WARRIOR commenced to overrace off the heels of CHINHOYI.

After leaving the 1200m, when caught in a wider position, T. Pannell allowed DESERT SASHAY to stride forward and settle outside the leader.

During the middle stages FINNIGAN began to overrace and was then allowed to stride forward approaching the 800m into a position three wide.

RACE 7: JOHN SANDS CUP CLASS 2 H'CAP - 1600M

SET TO FIRE raced wide during the early and middle stages.

Approaching the 600m ESEMES became awkward on the heels of ZARIBAN and was steadied.

PROPHECIES was momentarily awkward on the heels of IN EXTREMIS on straightening and was steadied. Shortly after, PROPHECIES was held up for some distance on the heels of ZEANG which was under pressure and losing ground quickly. A post-race veterinary examination of ZEANG revealed no abnormalities.

Approaching the 300m SET TO FIRE was steadied from the heels of CLEEV which shifted out to obtain clear running.

Over the final stages ESEMES laid in, obliging G. Farrer to stop riding and straighten his mount.

RACE 8: MAROOCHYDORE NEWSAGENCY CLASS 1 H'CAP - 1300M

M. Rice was dually engaged to ride STAR OF NEDIYM and LUX. Stewards subsequently replaced M. Rice with G. Farrer on STAR OF NEDIYM. Stewards accepted the explanation tendered by trainer J. McLachlan for this error.

WHO'S IN COMMAND was slow to begin.

CHA CHA D'AMOUR jumped outwards and shortly after made contact with WHO'S IN COMMAND.

Approaching the 1200m WHO'S IN COMMAND, when steadying from the heels of CHA CHA D'AMOUR, got its head up and became awkward for a short distance.

MS MAGENTA commenced to lay out leaving the 600m and as a result made the home turn awkwardly.

S. Scriven reported that CHA CHA D'AMOUR felt awkward in its action over the concluding stages. A subsequent post-race veterinary examination of CHA CHA D'AMOUR revealed no abnormalities.

ALL WINNERS AND SILENT THOUGHT WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
