As M. Cahill was delayed travelling to the track, B. Pengelly was substituted as the rider of MICHAELWIN.

A short distance after the start, MICHAELWIN (B. Pengelly) was cramped for room between BOLD ACT (B. Johnson) and FOINDA (C. Bumstead), which shifted out.

Approaching the 700m, ROYAL REFRAIN (T. Huxham) had to be steadied to avoid the heels of BOLD ACT (B. Johnson), which shifted in. B. Johnson was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.

At the 500m, FOINDA became unbalanced and had to be steadied after improving on to the heels of CHANGEIT (S. Shield), which had commenced to yield ground.

Near the 450m, ROYAL REFRAIN had to be steadied when tightened for room between ASK (B. Stewart) and ARMAIZES (G. Farrer), which shifted out away from NOBLE QUEST (K. Pope), which also shifted ground slightly off the heels of FOINDA.

O. Turpin, rider of VANSAR, dropped his whip at the 300m.

Race 2: Bloomhill Maiden 3yo & Up Maiden Plate – 1600m
1st – Just Peaches 2nd – Red Shadow 3rd – Semi Final 4th – Tamara Jane

Trainer R. Jansz was fined $50 for presenting VELRADA without blinkers.

SEMI FINAL (K. Pope) jumped away awkwardly.

VELRADA (J. Hoopert) commenced to compound after leaving the 800m and near the 700m shifted in under pressure and cramped SVENSON (A. Spinks)

Stewards ordered a veterinary examination of VELRADA, which finished a considerable distance from the main body of the field. The veterinary surgeon reported the horse to be suffering from a respiratory disorder and the connections of the horse were advised that VELRADA must undergo an endoscopic examination and the horse will be required to barrier trial satisfactorily before racing again.

Race 3: Quad Park Corporation 3yo Maiden H’cap – 1000m
1st –Lindmark Looney 2nd – Gloriosa Honey 3rd – Michelle Cafea 4th – Infinite Time

The start was delayed slightly as an adjustment was made to the bridle on FAITH LOVER.

At the start, CAVIALE (G. Farrer) jumped into the barrier partition, which resulted in G. Farrer losing balance and being dislodged shortly after jumping away.

FAITH LOVER (B. Johnson) and GODLY (K. Pope) were tightened for room at the start between KALINGA IVOR (A. Pattillo) and LINDMARK LOONEY (J. Byrne) when both horses shifted ground.

C. Parish, rider of STOPAZ, was severely reprimanded for permitting his mount to shift in near the 600m, resulting in INFINITE TIME (S. Shield) being tightened for room and taken in on to JUDGE LULU (A. Spinks), which was hampered. HOLYFIELD (M. Carson), which was following, had to be steadied in this incident.

B. Calkin, rider of SUNTANNED, was severely reprimanded for permitting his mount to shift in near the 600m, resulting in KALINGA IVOR being hampered and taken in on to HOLYFIELD (M. Carson), which was also crowded for room.

Race 4: Schultz Toomey O’Brien Lawyers Class 1 H’cap – 1000m
1st – Junk In The Trunk 2nd – Girl Of The West 3rd – Rising Storm 4th – Toni’s Choice

SILVER ORPHAN (C. Kearney), GREAT SOUTHERNLAND (S. Katsidis) and MISS GOLDEN GIRL were tightened for room on jumping away between COUNT IVOR (M. Rice), which jumped away awkwardly, and GIRL OF THE WEST (M. Cahill), which shifted out.

Near the 700m, DARK DOUGLAS had to be steadied after improving to the inside of the heels of OH MARTINA (S. Shield) where there was not sufficient room.

DARK DOUGLAS was inclined to race ungenerously approaching the home turn.

Race 5: Joyce Mayne Class 3 Plate – 1200m
1st – Carry On Ace 2nd – Wallan Road 3rd – Equal 4th – Dawn’s Miss

Jockey G. Farrer was examined by the club’s doctor after complaining of an injured knee which occurred when his mount struck the barriers in race 3. The club’s doctor was of the opinion that G. Farrer should forego his remaining rides. G. Farrer was substituted as the rider of MEMPHIS TENNESSEE.

After travelling a short distance, SHEWHOMUSTBEOBEYED (B. Stewart) shifted in, making contact with SWANNIES ME MATE (D. Peisley), forcing SWANNIES ME MATE in on to LION ERROR (M. Rice). SWANNIES ME MATE then raced in restricted room between LION ERROR (M. Rice) and SHEWHOMUSTBEOBEYED (B. Stewart) until SHEWHOMUSTBEOBEYED had to be steadied to avoid the heels of FLYING TEST (J. Sharp), which shifted in away from WALLAN ROAD (B. Pengelly). SWANNIES ME MATE continued to race in restricted room and near the 1100m, blundered when tightened between SHEWHOMUSTBEOBEYED and LION ERROR, which shifted out after receiving pressure on its hind quarters. After hearing evidence from all riders, stewards were unable to apportion blame directly on any one particular rider, however B. Pengelly, J. Sharp and B. Stewart were all reminded of their obligation to allow sufficient racing room for horses to their inside.

After leaving the 200m, FLYING TEST (J. Sharp) appeared to resent being struck with the whip and shifted out abruptly.

Race 6: Sunshine Plaza Fashions On The Field Class 2 H’cap – 1800m
1st – The Silence Sir 2nd – Peaceful Honour 3rd – Leverage 4th – Gallant Archer

INVERLEIGH LAD (K. Forrester) jumped in the air and also missed the start.

MEMPHIS TENNESSEE (M. Carson) and TELETOR (R. McMahon) were caught wide in the early and middle stages.

A. Spinks, rider of MOON ECHO, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding, in that near the 300m he permitted his mount to shift out on to PEACEFUL HONOUR, resulting in PEACEFUL HONOUR being taken out on to MEMPHIS TENNESSEE (M. Carson), resulting in that horse having to be checked. A. Spinks was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 7 meetings, to commence at midnight, 4 June, and to expire at midnight, 17 June 2006.

A post race veterinary examination of WINEGROVE failed to reveal any abnormalities.

Race 7: Hunt By The River Class 2 H’cap – 1800m
1st – Chief Whip 2nd – Instant Reward 3rd – Prospectors Charm 4th – Essex Girl

Trainer J. Caught was fined $100 for failing to declare a rider for BEECADD by the prescribed time.

Stewards questioned trainer R. Ludwig into the improved performance of CHIEF WHIP. Mr Ludwig stated that at the horse’s previous start at Ipswich on 24 May, it had drawn the extreme outside barrier over 1500 metres and was trapped wide in a slowly run race. He stated that the pattern of the race on that occasion did not suit the horse, and the race that it was caught wide had some bearing on the performance on that occasion. He added that in today’s race the horse was suited by the genuine pace and travelled well throughout running.

Race 8: Hot 91/Sunshine Coast Daily F&M Class 6 H’cap – 1200m
1st –Lillabiddy 2nd – Marikal 3rd – Princess Dani 4th – Our Jangles

MARIKAL (B. Pengelly) and PRINCESS DANI (J. Taylor) were both slow to begin.

A short distance after the start, LES JEUX D’ESPRIT (R. McMahon), after being initially crowded for room by HALIBUT (C. Bumstead), then shifted in away, tightening the racing room of KEPOLA (A. Pattillo) and NAVARRO (S. Katsidis).

Leaving the 900m, MISS GLAMOUR PUSS (K. Pope) got its head up and raced ungenerously after being cramped for room by LILLABIDDY (J. Byrne). J. Byrne, rider of LILLABIDDY, was reprimanded in this incident.

Race 9: Ramada Pelican Waters Class 1 H’cap - 1400m
1st – Indomato 2nd – Rhombus Lad 3rd – Observation 4th – Happy Giggleson

TATHAM LAD (J. Taylor) and FOURWINNERS (J. Byrne) were both a little slow to begin.

After travelling a short distance, FOURWINNERS was tightened for room between GRANADORA (B. Stewart), which was taken in out TWIN STARS (R. McMahon), and MR CHEWY (S. Shield), which was taken in by DAD’S SONG (S. Drake).

RHOMBUS LAD (C. Parish), INDOMATO (M. Cahill) and HAPPY GIGGLESON (M. Morris) were all caught wide shortly after the start and obliged to race wide for the majority of the race.

Near the 1300m, HAPPY GIGGLESON (M. Morris) shifted out, taking HAPPY GIGGLESON out on to OBSERVATION (S. Katsidis).

Passing the 600m, MR CHEWY (S. Shield) had to be steadied off the heels of DAD’S SONG (S. Drake), which shifted in.

Near the 200m, FOURWINNERS (J. Byrne) was disappointed for a run between HAPPY GIGGLESON and RHOMBUS LAD (C. Parish), which shifted out. J. Byrne then was obliged to shift FOURWINNERS back to the inside, however was again disappointed for clear running, having to shift to the outside near the 100m.

HAPPY GIGGLESON (M. Morris) had to be steadied near the finish line to avoid the heels of INDOMATO (M. Cahill), which shifted in.

When questioned as to his tactics on straightening on FOURWINNERS, J. Byrne stated that he elected to follow OBSERVATION (S. Katsidis) as he anticipated saving ground by obtaining a run following OBSERVATION rather than shifting outwards around 3 horses and covering more ground. He stated that when a run did present itself after leaving the 300m, he attempted to take advantage of that run, however he did not anticipate it closing near the 200m when RHOMBUS LAD SHIFTED GROUND. He added that after leaving the 200m he was again disappointed for a run to the inside of OBSERVATION when that horse shifted ground, and he was obliged to shift to the outside to gain clear running. The explanation was noted.

WHYDINYA (R. Mason) was held up for the majority of the straight.

Apprentice R. McMahon was fined $400 for leaving the jockeys’ room without the permission of the stewards.

ALL WINNERS WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED
