On return to scale a protest was lodged by J. Byrne, rider of the 2nd placegetter, TORNADO BLITZ, against DICKTATOR being declared the winner, alleging interference near the 300m. After taking evidence from the parties concerned and viewing the patrol video, stewards found that the ground lost by TORNADO BLITZ following contact with DICKTATOR near the 300m, and also the ground lost when DICKTATOR shifted out, forcing TORNADO BLITZ wider over the concluding stages, exceeded the beaten margin between those horses at the finish, and therefore the objection was upheld and the Judge’s placings were amended to read: No.7 – Tornado Blitz – 1st; No.1 – Dicktator – 2ND; No.9 – Only Hearsae – 3rd; No.8 – Greenlaw. At a subsequent inquiry, it was established that approaching the 300m, DICKTATOR shifted out abruptly when struck with the whip, making heavy contact with TORNADO BLITZ, and as a result, ONLY HERESAE (K. Pope), which was following, was steadied from the heels of TORNADO BLITZ. Shortly after, DICKTATOR continued to shift out when under pressure, taking TORNADO BLITZ (J. Byrne) wider on the track. P.
