Race 1: Join The 100 Club! QTIS 2yo Maiden H’cap - 1000m
1st – Mogfa 2nd – Only Feathers 3rd – Martios 4th – Mighty Malouver

TRIPWIRE (G. Farrer) jumped away awkwardly and shifted in, bumping IMPULSIVEDANE (D. Griffin). Shortly after, TRIPWIRE shifted out, making contact with MIGHTY MALOUVER (N. Thomas), resulting in all 3 runners become unbalanced.

MOGFA (K. Pope) and ONLY FEATERS (J. Holder) jumped away awkwardly.

Approaching the course proper at the 750m, TRIPWIRE became awkward to the inside of MARTIROS (M. Rice), which shifted in.

Rounding the home turn, MARTIROS (M. Rice) became unbalanced for a short distance.

ONLY FEATHERS hung out throughout, and MOGFA raced greenly during the race. The connections of both horses were advised that a warning was being placed on ONLY FEATHERS and MOGFA regarding their racing manners.

Race 2: Sky Channel Maiden H’cap – 1200m
1st – Hezaburraboy 2nd – salami Specs 3rd – Mereena 4th – Dark Perfection

Trainer P. Facoory was advised that GOLDEN BRAID, which proved difficult to load, would be required to barrier trial satisfactorily prior to its next race start.

MEREENA (R. McMahon) jumped inwards at the start.

KEVERNE (K. Pope) jumped away awkwardly and shifted out, bumping HEZABURRABOY (M. Rice).

Shortly after, KEVERNE was taken in by HEZABURRABOY, which in turn was taken in by SALAMI SPECS (J. Holder).

GOLDEN BRAID (W. Pearson) became awkward on the heels of KEVERNE shortly after the start and had to be steadied.

GOLDEN BRAID had a tendency to lay out in the early stages and became awkward on the heels of DOUBLE DANCER (J. Byrne).

Approaching the 800m, SPEED BUMP (T. Pannell) was momentarily steadied from the heels of HEZABURRABOY (M. Rice), which shifted in.

Leaving the 800m, THE HEC MAN (C. Symons) commenced to overrace and became awkward on the heels of SPEED BUMP (T. Pannell) and shifted out, resulting in DOUBLE DANCER being forced wider and becoming momentarily awkward on the heels of KEVERNE.

Near the 700m, THE HEC MAN, whilst overracing, blundered. THE HEC MAN then continued to overrace until near the 500m.

Jockey W. Pearson advised stewards that GOLDEN BRAID had locked its jaw rounding the 800m turn and then laid in in the straight despite his efforts.

Passing the 100m, DARK PERFECTION (K. Wharton) shifted out under pressure and as a result KEVERNE had to be steadied. K. Wharton, rider of DARK PERFECTION, was instructed to exercise more care when shifting ground in future.

GOLDEN BRAID raced wide throughout.

Race 3: Reed Property Group Class 4 H’cap - 1400m
1st – Lasoron 2nd – Damnation 3rd – Take The Shot 4th – Star Jangle

On jumping away, both TAKE THE SHOT (S. Galloway) and STAR JANGLE (M. Morris) came together. Shortly after, STAR JANGLE shifted out and bumped MR FAHRENHEIT (M. Wood).

DAMNATION (D. Griffin) and LASORON (J. Byrne) overraced during the early stages.

Stewards questioned jockey S. Galloway over the performance of TAKE THE SHOT. He stated that he was requested to settle the gelding midfield where it was accustomed to racing, however after beginning well, there was no pace in the race and no one challenged him for the lead, so he allowed TAKE THE SHOT to settle and stride of its own accord. He added that the gelding travelled comfortably in the middle stages and he was able to ease the pace. S. Galloway further added that rounding the home turn TAKE THE SHOT was able to sustain its run whilst leading, however had a tendency to lay out in the straight, making it somewhat difficult for him to ride his mount out over the concluding stages. Stewards noted the explanation.

Apprentice M. Morris was questioned over the performance of STAR JANGLE. He stated that he felt he erred in the early stages by restraining the colt when his instructions were to give STAR JANGLE a sit. He added that he should have urged STAR JANGLE forward to be closer to the leader during the middle stages, which he failed to do. Apprentice Morris did mention that his master, Mr T. Miller, was disappointed with his ride, and stewards instructed apprentice Morris that in future he would be expected to show more initiative than he had done today.

Race 4: Caloundra RSL Class 1 H’cap - 1000m,
1st – Zedeshee 2nd – Towngossip 3rd – Forseti 4th – King Fair

Nearing the 800m, VIBRANT (D. Griffin) and TOWNGOSSIP (R. Mason) bumped.

KING’S CRUSADE (K. Pope) had a tendency to lay in nearing the 200m and shortly after the 200m and brushed KING FAIR (M. Carson) on a number of occasions.

Race 5: Ramada Pelican Waters Maiden Plate - 1800m
1st – The Marshall Star 2nd – Starfun 3rd – Vonmarkndunc 4th – Beau Sam

EAR’S ROCKING was declared a late scratching at 11.05 a.m. after the mare injured itself in its float en route to the course. Trainer J. Dorrington was advised that she must provide a veterinary certificate for EAR’S ROCKING prior to its next race start.

STARFUN (J. Holder) and PRINCE VLAD (D. Griffin) were slow to begin.

MILLY MERRAN (K. Pope), ALCHRISONTEE (S. Bogenhuber) and VONMARKNDUNC (K. Wharton) all jumped awkwardly.

ARSANG (S. Galloway) was caught wide in the early stages.

BEAU SAME (T. Pannell) overraced in the middle stages and became awkward on the heels of OUR MODEL (J. Byrne).

Shortly after straightening, OUR MODEL shifted out and brushed DEPUTY DODGE (M. Dale).

DEPUTY DODGE (M. Dale) raced wide throughout.

A post-race veterinary examination of DEPUTY DODGE revealed the colt to be suffering from heat stress.
Race 6: Ramada Pelican Waters Summer Cup Next Sunday! Open H’cap - 1000m
1st – Devil Inside 2nd – Mister De Bali 3rd – Spinardo 4th –Thebarefootbushman

Trainer G. Harrison was fined $100 for failing to declare a rider for THEBAREFOOTBUSHMAN by the prescribed time.

On return to scale a protest was lodged by N. Thomas, rider of the 3rd placegetter, MISTER DE BALI, against SPINARDO being declared the winner, alleging interference near the 600m. In upholding the protest, stewards were of the belief that the ground lost by MISTER DE BALI at the 600m when SPINARDO shifted in exceeded the margin between the relevant horses at the finish of the race. The Judge’s placings were subsequently amended to read: No. 1 – DEVIL INSIDE – 1st; No. 7 – MR DE BALI – 2nd; No. 4 – SPINARDO – 3rd- No. 6 – THEBAREFOOTBUSHMAN – 4th. At a subsequent inquiry, M. Dorrington, rider of SPINARDO, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding, in that near the 600m, he allowed his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of MISTER DE BALI, causing that horse to be crowded and checked, losing its position. M. Dorrington was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 9 meetings, to commence at midnight, 14 January, and to expire at midnight, 31 January 2007.

Following the event, the club’s veterinary surgeon reported that MACHTIG KAKI SAYA had been galloped on on the off foreleg.

A post-race veterinary examination of DEVIL INSIDE revealed the mare to be slightly lame in the off hind leg. Trainer L. Birchley was advised that he must provide a veterinary clearance for DEVIL INSIDE prior to its next race start.

Race 7: Yalumba Wines Class 3 H’cap - 1200m
1st – Drop Of Hennessy 2nd – Bridie Bow 3rd – 4th – Ciao For Now

Stewards accepted apprentice D. Piesley’s explanation for only claiming half a kilogram in this race after trainer Mr H. Adams requested that a heavy girth cover be used, resulting in apprentice D. Piesley not being able to claim down to his riding weight.

PROUD HUNTER, which suffered a laceration to the off hind hip prior to the race, was declared a late scratching on veterinary advice at 3.45 p.m. Subsequent to the event all monies invested on PROUD HUNTER were ordered to be refunded, with deductions of 23 cents in the dollar on the face value of win bets, 18 cents in the dollar on the face value of place bets.

THUNDERING GIRL blundered badly at the start and became unbalanced for some distance, then shifted in, taking CHICKEN BOB (J. Byrne) in on to MILLIMAC (R. McMahon), resulting in CHICKEN BOB being checked.

Approaching the 200m, MILLIMAC (R. McMahon) was held up for clear running between LUNACAMPO (S. Holcombe) and CIAO FOR NOW (W. Pearson).

CIAO FOR NOW (W. Pearson) shifted out under pressure over the concluding stages.

RAPID RUBY (S. Bogenhuber) was caught wide throughout.

Race 8: XXXX Class 1 H’cap - 1400m
1st – Royal Fox 2nd – Manifesto 3rd – Dans D’Or 4th – Vettori’s Image

Trainer J. Bannon was fined $100 for failing to declare a rider for AURANGI by the prescribed time.

Shortly after the start, ROYAL FOX (N. Thomas) was tightened for room between LION PARK (K. Pope) and SONJA D’ORO (D. Griffin), which shifted out.

JET BOY (J. Byrne) and DANS D’OR (D. Peisley) was caught wide in the early stages.

Near the 450m, ROYAL FOX (N. Thomas) had to be steadied from the heels of MULGA BOB (M. Palmer).

Approaching the 200m, MULGA BOB (M. Palmer) shifted away from the heels of SONJA D’ORO (R. McMahon), which was under pressure and losing ground.

Shortly after leaving the 200m, ROYAL FOX (N. Thomas) attempted to take a narrow run between JET BOY (J. Byrne) and MISS TWIST (A. Spinks) and as a result made contact with the hind quarters of MISS TWIST, resulting in MISS TWIST becoming unbalanced and shifted out.

Over the final stages, J. Byrne, rider of JET BOY, was obliged to steady from the heels of DANS D’OR (D. Peisley), which shifted in under pressure.

LION PARK (K. Pope) was caught wide throughout.
