As P. Wolfgram was ill, riding changes were made as per the Stewards Summary Sheet.
Race 1: Joyce Mayne Maiden H'cap - 1600m
1st – Golden Chase 2nd – Kinda Modern 3rd – Motive 4th – Ocean Outlaw
The connections of STALWART TWIST, which proved difficult to load, were advised that they would be required to provide a further barrier certificate for that filly prior to its next race start.
ALL LINED UP (G. Geran), which was slow to begin, was further hampered by STALWART TWIST (G. Butler), which shifted out.
Near the 700m, FRIENDLY MANNER (M. Wood), which was racing in restricted room to the inside of ALL LINED UP, had to be steadied to avoid the heels of the tiring FIFIBELLE (M. Palmer).
Passing the 400m, KANSAS STAR (B. Evans), which had been held up for clear running, was then disappointed for a run between ROSSLYN CHAPEL (C. Reith) and the tiring STAR JOY (M. Hellyer) and shifted in, hampering FIFIBELLE.
ALL LINED UP, SUAVE CONSORT (G. Grylls), FRIENDLY MANNER (M. Wood) and SHAOLIN DO (T. Pannell) raced wide for the majority of the event.
Post race veterinary examinations of FIFIBELLE and STAR JOY failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.
Race 2: Recruitrain Maiden Plate - 1200m
1st – Johnnieontherocks 2nd – Red Rocker 3rd – Hidden Heart 4th – Red Treasure
Trainer D. Peoples was fined $100 for failing to scratch CITY LIMITS by the prescribed time.
A warning was issued to the connections of TARMONS, which proved difficult to load.
MOORFYSH (M. Palmer) and CASUAL DEAL (M. Hughes) were slow to begin.
TARMONS (J. Byrne), HIDDEN HEART (M. Cahill) were both tightened for room at the start between RED TREASURE (D. Griffin) and HAVEN’S PLACE (B. Evans), which shifted in.
Near the 1100m, ABODE (K. Pope) had to be steadied to avoid the heels of HAVEN’S PLACE, which shifted in. B. Evans, rider of HAVEN’S PLACE, was advised to exercise more care.
RED TREASURE overraced during the early and middle stages and had to be steadied to avoid heels near the 800m.
CASUAL DEAL (M. Hughes) improved onto heels near the 700m and had to be steadied.
MOORFYSH laid in under pressure in the straight resulting in M. Palmer being unable to fully test his mount, and near the 200m became awkward and shifted in, making contact with SUNDAY ADVICE (K. Yoshida) .
TARMONS (J. Byrne) raced wide for the majority of the event.
Race 3: Vast Interiour 3yo QTIS H'cap - 1000m
1st –Pegunny Roy 2nd – Showit 3rd – Kirra Lyn 4th - Zekeza
Stewards accepted the explanation from trainer L. Kelly for the late declaration of B. El-Issa as the rider of SHERANN.
CRAIGLEA FALCON (K. Pope) and SHOWIT (M. Cahill) were slow to begin.
SHERANN (B. El-Issa) shifted in under pressure in the straight, making contact with ZAKEZA (N. Thomas) on a number of occasions.
ARCTIC ECHO (C. Grylls) raced wide for the majority of the event.
SHOWIT lost its near fore plate in running.
When questioned regarding the performance of SHERANN, jockey B. El-Issa stated that the horse was inclined to lay in throughout the event and that he recommended to the that the filly be spelled following its performance today. He further advised that it had been his intention to take up a forward position, however after being pressured in the early stages he elected to take hold and shift across behind the leaders near the 800m as it was apparent to him he was not going to be able to take up a forward position. Trainer L. Kelly confirmed that it was his intention to give SHERANN a short break from racing. A post-race veterinary examination of SHERANN revealed the filly to be sore in both forelegs. Connections were advised that they would be required to provide a veterinary clearance for SHERANN prior to its next race start.
Race 4: 240V Class 1 H'cap - 1000m
1st –Brujita 2nd – Any Wonder 3rd – Triple Ay 4th – Stalwart Honey
A warning was issued to the connections of TIERMES, which proved difficult to load.
FALZINA, which broke through the barriers prior to the start, was quickly restrained, examined by the club’s veterinary surgeon and cleared to race. A warning was issued to the connections of FALZINA regarding its barrier manners.
The start was further delayed when S. Galloway, rider of ZEBAKWE, which was in the adjoining stall to FALZINA, requested a veterinary examination of the gelding. The veterinary surgeon reported that ZEBAKWE had sustained laceration to its off foreleg. Stewards subsequently declared ZEBAKWE a late scratching on veterinary advice at 2.22 pm. Subsequent to the event all monies invested on ZEBAKWE were ordered to be refunded with deductions of 14 cents in the dollar on the face value of win bets, 13 cents in the dollar on the face value of place bets.
COUNT DE LOIR (D. Sparks) and ENCOSTICATED (J. Byrne) were slow to begin.
Near the 300m, ENCOSTICATED (J. Byrne) had to be steadied when tightened for room between BROOKIE BABE (M. Wood) and BROOKTON SPECIAL (M. Thomas), which shifted out.
Over the concluding stages, UPUPAWAY (T. Pannell) was tightened for room and had to be checked when racing between MR SUGARAY (L. Rolls) and BROOKIE BABE (M. Wood), both of which shifted ground. L. Rolls, rider of MR SUGARAY, and M. Wood, rider of BROOKIE BABE, were reprimanded.
UPUPAWAY (T. Pannell), MR SUGARAY (L. Rolls) and BROOKIE BABE (M. Wood) raced wide for the majority of the event.
A post-race veterinary examination of FALZINA, which compounded in the straight, revealed the filly to be suffering from thumps.
Race 5: Adenbrook Homes Class 1 H'cap - 1400m
1st – The Lording Dragon 2nd – Lots Of Success 3rd – Side To Side 4th – Timecall
Stewards accepted the explanation from trainer R. Heathcote for the late declaration of rider for FALLING STAR.
TIMECALL (J. Byrne) was slow to begin.
BANANA SPLIT (N. Thomas) shifted in at the start, making contact with SIDE TO SIDE (C. Grylls).
Near the 1200m, TIMECALL (J. Byrne), when endeavouring to hold a position to the outside of the heels of SMARTNESS (M. Cahill), was obliged to ease when placed in restricted room to the inside of STAINGLASS (C. Reith), which shifted in. C. Reith, rider of STAINGLASS, was reprimanded regarding this incident.
SIDE BY SIDE overraced during the early and middle stages and near the 800m the gelding had to be steadied from heels and lost ground. STAINGLASS (C. Reith), which was following, became awkward as a result.
BANANA SPLIT raced wide for the majority of the event.
A post-race veterinary examination of PEA EYE CEE failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.
BANANA SPLIT lost its near fore plate in running.
SIDE TO SIDE lost its off fore plate in running.
Race 6: Schultz Toomey O’Brien Class 4 H'cap - 1600m
1st – Jackpot 2nd – Mauries Pick 3rd – Shooting Scene 4th – Raincoat
Trainer L. Mayfield was fined $100 for failing to declare a rider for SHOOTING STAR by the prescribed time.
NASADISPUTE (O. Turpin) was slow to begin.
Stewards adjourned an inquiry into the reason for VEEDUB (A. Merritt) having to be checked near the 1300m.
MAURIES PICK (K. Pope) raced wide in the early stages.
When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of NONSENSICAL, jockey D. Griffin stated that, in his opinion, the horse failed to handle the rain affected conditions and as a result was under pressure from the 700m onwards and at no stage felt comfortable in the conditions. Trainer P. Messara confirmed his disappointment in the performance and was also of the belief that the horse perhaps failed to handle today’s track conditions. Mr Messara undertook to advise stewards of any abnormality that becomes apparent that may have had a bearing on the performance. A post-race veterinary examination of NONSENSICAL failed to reveal any significant abnormalities. A swab sample was taken from NONSENSICAL.
When questioned regarding the performance of VEEDUB, trainer J. Noud stated that, in his opinion, the gelding failed to handle the rain affected conditions, and whilst he acknowledged that VEEDUB was racing out of its class, he was nevertheless disappointed with its performance. A post-race veterinary examination of VEEDUB failed to reveal any significant abnormalities. Mr Noud undertook to report to stewards any abnormality that becomes apparent which may have had a bearing on the performance.
Race 7: Hot 91 Sunshine Coast Daily F&M Oaks - 1200m
1st – Sleek Repeat 2nd – Craiglea Charm 3rd – Pertinence 4th – Seconde
SUPERFLY (J. Byrne) was slow to begin.
SANDTON (E. Wilkinson) jumped away awkwardly, losing ground.
Race 8: Investa Property Group Class 2 H'cap - 1200m
1st – Navigation 2nd – Joburg Angel 3rd – Hawk Hunter 4th –Primeval Demand
Stewards accepted the explanation from trainer R. Heathcote for the late declaration of rider for FALLING STAR.
JOBURG ANGEL (N. Thomas) was slowly into stride.
MIZ WINFREY (K. Pope) shifted out at the start, hampering both PRIMEVAL DEMAND (S. Scriven) and JOHNNY CASHLESS (E. Wilkinson).
NAVIGATION (J. Byrne) and AMAIZEMEA (A. Spinks) were both tightened for room at the start between HAWK HUNTER (M. Cahill) and DEMONSTRATOR (M. Hellyer), both of which shifted ground.
Leaving the 1000m, HAWK HUNTER shifted out, forcing both DEMONSTRATOR and MAHARISHI (M. Hughes) wider on the track until a point near the 800m when DEMONSTRATOR had to be steadied.
NAVIGATION raced wide from the 700m onwards.
MIZ WINFREY and AMAIZEMEA were both momentarily held up for clear running rounding the home turn.
MIZ WINFREY was again held up for clear running approaching the 200m and had to be steadied when disappointed for a run between HAWK HUNTER and FALLING STAR (C. Reith).
Near the 200m the tiring DEMONSTRATOR was tightened for room between MAHARISHI (M. Hughes), which shifted out slightly, and GUN SALUTE (C. Grylls), which shifted in under pressure. After taking into account all the evidence, particularly that of apprentice M. Hellyer, rider of DEMONSTRATOR, which indicated that DEMONSTRATOR overreacted to being tightened, stewards took no further action other than to reprimand apprentice Grylls, rider of GUN SALUTE, regarding this incident.
AMAIZEMEA was held up for clear running over the concluding stages.
Over the final stages, C. Grylls, rider of GUN SALUTE, was obliged to stop riding when momentarily tightened for room between HAWK HUNTER and JOBURG ANGEL, which shifted in under pressure.
