From QTC meeting, 8.7.09 – Race 6
Trainer L. Birchley, trainer of STRATELLA, was fined $100 for failing to produce the Document of Description for that horse.
Race 1: La Promenade Resort Maiden H'cap - 1000m
1st – Van Ruud 2nd – Jillilikes 3rd – Trickett 4th – Personal Vendetta
VOLANT CHEVAL (M. Morris) began awkwardly and shifted in, making contact with MORINGA’S KING (C. Priest).
SKY BLOND (S. Kennedy) was tightened for room on jumping away between MAYJAR BEN (G. Geran) and BRAVE GAL (J. Byrne), which shifted out.
THEREABOUTS (N. Thomas) was slow to begin.
Approaching the 700m, SKY BLOND (S. Kennedy) and MORINGA’S KING (C. Priest) came together and made contact.
Near the 50m, MAYJAR BEN (G. Geran) improved up on to the heels of BRAVE GAL (J. Byrne) and shifted out, causing THE LADY IS MINE (M. Radecker) and MORINGA’S KING (C. Priest) to be inconvenienced.
VAN RUUD (S. Katsidis) raced wide for the majority of the race.
AY CEE (A. Badger) and THEREABOUTS (N. Thomas) were inclined to hang out for the majority of the event.
Race 2: Caloundra RSL QTIS 2yo Maiden Plate - 1200m
1st – Just A Piccolo 2nd – Golden Kid 3rd – Bucket Of Cash 4th – Rock Art
GOTELLIT (C. Reith) was tightened for room at the start by FALPLAY (S. Katsidis), which shifted in after beginning awkwardly.
LOOKIM YOU (Michael Palmer) began awkwardly and shifted in, making contact with GOLDEN KID (M. Hellyer).
Leaving the 1000m, BUCKET OF CASH (J. Piper) shifted out, forcing TERESA (J. Byrne) wider on the track, resulting in TERESA (J. Byrne) and JUST A PICCOLO (J. Taylor) making contact.
Leaving the 800m, CATWALKS OF PARIS (O. Turpin) was disappointed for a run to the inside of GOTELLIT (C. Reith) where doubtful room existed.
AEQUITAS (G. Baker) overraced in the early and middle stages.
Approaching the finish of the race, GOTELLIT was crowded for room between FALPLAY and ROCK ART (R. Wiggins), which shifted in.
BUCKET OF CASH (J. Piper) and JUST A PICCOLLO (J. Taylor) both raced wide for the majority of the event.
Race 3: Hot 91 Maiden Plate - 1400m
1st – Queen Of Bling 2nd – Ignition Miss 3rd – Nothin Compares 4th – Soho Madame
The start of this race was delayed as a result of MISTER TATT (N. Thomas) having to be resaddled at the barriers.
COTTON ON FIRE (A. Badger) and CRAIGLEA SCARLETT (M. Hellyer) made contact on jumping away and again was brushed on a number of occasions in the early stages.
Leaving the 400m, NOTHIN COMPARES (R. Wiggins) and IGNITION MISS (D. Browne) came together and bumped.
QUEEN OF BLING (O. Turpin) shifted out under pressure over the final 200m.
COTTON ON FIRE raced wide for the majority of the event.
Stewards questioned apprentice O. Turpin and trainer R. McCall regarding the tactics to lead on QUEEN OF BLING today in comparison to previous starts. Mr McCall stated that blinkers were added to the gear of the horse today for the first time, and in consultation it was decided that due to the lack of pace in the race they would attempt to take a more forward position with the horse. Stewards noted the explanation, however reminded Mr McCall of his obligations under the rules to notify of intended change of tactics.
Race 4: Win Television Class 2 H'cap - 1400m
1st – Grungle 2nd – Duke Ivor 3rd – Silken Appeal 4th – Siong Tee
JOHNNY CASHLESS, which broke through the barriers and galloped for some considerable distance, was declared a late scratching at 2.23 pm. Subsequent to the event all monies invested on JOHNNY CASHLESS were ordered to be refunded with deductions of 10 cents in the dollar on the face value of win bets, 10 cents in the dollar on the face value of place bets. Trainer J. McLachlan was advised that he must obtain a further barrier certificate for JOHNNY CASHLESS prior to its next race start.
BOUGETTE (M. Hellyer) was tightened for room on jumping away between DELTARARA (M. Hughes) and SIONG TEE (A. Pattillo), which shifted out.
ENCOSTICATED (K. Pope) was slow to begin.
TOP RESOURCE (O. Turpin) was inclined to hang out for the majority of the event.
DUKE IVOR (B. Thomson) raced wide for the majority of the event.
Jockey A. Pattillo, rider of SIONG TEE, reported that his mount and himself were struck by a shoe of another runner leaving the 700m.
Race 5: Sunshine Coast Daily Class 1 H'cap - 1600m
1st – Razzled 2nd – Weekend Shopper 3rd – Saturn Five 4th – Pride Of Poland
FLEET AFFAIR (J. Kropp) began awkwardly, resulting in the horse losing valuable ground.
WEEKEND SHOPPER (O. Turpin) was held up for clear running rounding the home turn.
Leaving the 400m, REAL WORLD (M. Morris) shifted out to improve and in doing so brushed TIMECALL (K. Pope).
Leaving the 300m, GOLDEN GLIMPSE (M. Radecker) and BRANCH STACKER (J. Byrne) came together and brushed.
SATURN FIVE (S. Kennedy) was inclined to shift out under pressure over the final 250m.
GOLDEN GLIMPSE (M. Radecker) was caught wide and raced wide for the majority of the event.
When questioned J. Byrne was at a loss to explain the disappointing performance of BRANCH STACKER. He stated that after obtaining a forward position, the gelding was under pressure from leaving the 500m. A post-race veterinary examination of BRANCH STACKER failed to reveal any significant abnormalities at the time of examination.
A post-race veterinary examination of SMARTNESS revealed the mare to be lame in both forelegs. Trainer W. Lawson was advised he must provide a veterinary certificate of fitness for the mare prior to its next race start.
Race 6: Yalumba Open H'cap - 1400m
1st – Pertinence 2nd – Southerly Impact 3rd – Riseupsinging 4th – Dispurser
CAP RIVIERA (J. Piper) was slow to begin.
PROUDLY AGRO (G. Baker) and SOUTHERLY IMPACT (G. Geran) made contact on jumping away.
Near the 700m, CAP RIVIERA (J. Piper) shifted in and brushed the running rail on 2 occasions.
NOREIL (R. Wiggins) and DISPURSER (B. Swanton) came together and brushed on 2 occasions over the final 100m.
NOREIL (R. Wiggins), FORTUNATUS FIDELIS (M. Morris) and NEVADA GAMBLER (J. Kropp) raced wide for the majority of the event.
Race 7: Sky Racing Class 1 H'cap - 1200m
1st – Reizarb 2nd – Tora San 3rd – Over The Heather 4th – Pumplechook
HAPPY GIGGLESON (L. Rolls) was tightened for room on jumping away between OVER THE HEATHER (D. Browne) and LIGHT THE TUNNEL (J. Byrne), both of which shifted ground.
LUVENGER (J. Kropp) was tightened for room on jumping away between SWELL (N. Thomas) and EXCLUSIVE CIRCLE (A. Merritt), which shifted in.
LEFT HOOK (K. Pope) and GRACEMERE (M. Hellyer) made contact on jumping away.
M. Morris, rider of ARABIA, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding, in that approaching the 1000m you permitted your mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of EXCLUSIVE CIRCLE and LUVENGER (J. Kropp), resulting in both EXCLUSIVE CIRCLE and LUVENGER being tightened and losing their positions. HAPPY GIGGLESON (L. Rolls) was also checked in this incident. M. Morris was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 7 meetings to commence at midnight, 22 July and to expire at midnight, 1 August 2009.
Near the 500m, SWELL (N. Thomas) had to be steadied when attempting to take a run in restricted room to the inside of TORA SAN (A. Badger).
Leaving the 500m, EXCLUSIVE CIRCLE (A. Merritt) laid in, tightening LUVENGER (J. Kropp).
OUR WAVE (M. Radecker) and BE GLORIOUS (A. Pattillo) all raced wide for the majority of the event.
Race 8: Reed Property Group Class 4 H'cap - 1200m
1st – Blow The Bugle 2nd – Sword Of Damocles 3rd – Bloomin Thunder 4th – Periander
SWEET SASSI was fractious in the barriers prior to the start. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of SWEET SASSI, O. Turpin stated that the horse raced poorly throughout. Trainer J. McLachlan confirmed his disappointment with the performance and was concerned that the mare may have suffered an injury as a result of its activities in the barriers prior to the start. He added that he would advise stewards of any abnormality that may become apparent which may have had a bearing on the performance.
SWEET SASSI (O. Turpin) was tightened for room on jumping away between SEE THE FLAMES (J. Taylor) and BLOOMIN THUNDER (L. Rolls), which shifted out.
Shortly after the start SWORD OF DAMOCLES (Michael Palmer) and BLOOMIN THUNDER (L. Rolls) came together and bumped.
SWORD OF DAMOCLES was inclined to hang out rounding the first turn at the 800m.
TYCOON KEN (C. Eaton) raced wide for the majority of the event.
FEISTY MANNER bled during the event. Connections were advised that the colt would be barred from racing for a period of 3 months.
