Race 1: BDK Buscombe Maiden Plate - 1000m
1st – Musashi Of Mieko 2nd – Azzurra Bay 3rd – Anabaa Force 4th - Belletrist
ANABAA FORCE (S. Katsidis) and NATURAL MISS (A. Spinks) came together at the start.
BELLETRIST (O. Turpin) jumped away awkwardly and shifted out, making heavy contact with LA MIDASHEE (M. Usher), forcing LA MIDASHEE out on to WHY WARRIOR (K. Pope). In this incident, ADANGERTOHIMSELF (K. Sawyers) had to be eased away from the heels of WHY WARRIOR (K. Pope).
Approaching the 900m, WHATAMAN (M. Cahill) shifted out abruptly, forcing CRAIGLEA VIEW (M. Speers) out on to MUSASHI OF MEIKO (T. Treichel).
GRACE THE WIND (L. Appo) hung out rounding the home turn.
WHY WARRIOR, which raced wide for the entire race, hung out rounding the home turn.
O. Turpin, rider of BELLETRIST, reported his mount proved difficult to test due to its tendency to hang out.
On straightening, GRACE THE WIND, which was inclined to hang out, had to be steadied off the heels of NATURAL MISS (A. Spinks)
Race 2: Pelican Motors Service Centre Maiden H'cap - 1400m
1st – Vigorlic 2nd – Red God 3rd – Grand Homme 4th – Cape Tycoon
After weighing out for this race, J. Byrne sought the club’s doctor and was subsequently stood down from his engagements today. Riding changes were made as per the Stewards Summary Sheet.
COCONUT LASS (K. Pope) jumped away awkwardly.
VOLUNTARY (T. Treichel) and GRAND HOMME (B. Hull) were both checked at the start when tightened for room between SUNDAY’S GIRL (N. Thomas), which jumped away awkwardly and shifted in, and SWISS STRIKE (A. Spinks), which shifted out.
When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of MISS RIO, O. Turpin stated he had been instructed to position the horse midfield, however was unsuccessful in gaining any cover and was obliged to race extremely wide for the majority of the race. He added that near the 700m he was obliged to check away from the heels of HE’S JOY’S BOY (M. Hughes) when that horse shifted out momentarily and as a consequence the horse may have sustained a laceration. A post-race veterinary examination of MISS RIO confirmed that the filly to have sustained a minor laceration to the off hind pastern. Trainer’s representative Miss M. Leitch advised it was intended to re-assess the horse’s current racing program and depending on how the horse pulled up, MISS RIO may be given an ease up.
Race 3: Pelican Motors Service Centre Maiden H'cap - 1400m
1st – Raksasa 2nd – Patapinda 3rd – Angel Gal 4th – Baby Rock
SOBO (K. Pope), PATAPINDA (S. Katsidis) and JUST LUST (R. Hinricks) were all tightened for room between ANGEL GAL (A. Spinks), which jumped outwards, and PABLO (M. Hellyer), which jumped inwards.
THEREABOUTS (N. Thomas) was slow to begin.
A. Spinks, rider of ANGEL GAL, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding, in that near the 400m he permitted his mount to shift out when insufficiently clear of MORIINGA’S KING, which resulted in C. Priest, rider of MORINGA’S KING, having to take hold of her mount and lose her position when racing to the inside of BABY ROCK (S. Galloway). A. Spinks was suspended from riding for 8 meetings, to commence at midnight, 21 August and to expire at midnight, 30 August 2009.
Near the 100m, FUBAH (T. Treichel) shifted out abruptly off the heels of the tiring LILY MARKANE (M. Hellyer), forcing INDEED I AM (C. Reith) to be taken out and make heavy contact with MORINGA’S KING. T. Treichel, rider FUBAH, was cautioned and instructed to exercise more care in similar circumstances.
Race 4: Hot 91 Maiden H'cap - 1400m
1st – City Lmits 2nd – Tinkler’s Lane 3rd – Ignition Miss 4th - Barclays
Permission was granted for PROPERTY BOOM to be loaded with a barrier blanket as the 2 blankets provided by the club were used by MY TOY BOY and TINBEERWAH. Trainers B. Guy, C. Williamson and T. Cotsiopoulos were advised to ensure that once a horse has been approved to race a barrier blanket, it is the trainer’s responsibility to ensure that the horse has a blanket when presented to race.
Correct weight was delayed to enable M. Cahill, rider of the 3rd placegetter, IGNITION MISS, to view the stewards’ footage to ascertain if he had grounds for protest against the 2nd placegetter, TINKLER’S LANE (S. Kennedy). M. Cahill did not proceed with a protest.
Near the 700m, BANGERS ‘N’ MASH (K. Sawyers) was momentarily cramped for room when racing in restricted room inside TELL JEAN (T. Treichel), which had been cramped for room by MY TOY BY (C. Reith), which when racing 3 wide shifted in.
Near the 400m, TINKLER’S LANE (S. Kennedy), which was inclined to lay out, made contact with IGNITION MISS (M. Cahill).
TINKLER’S LANE (S. Kennedy) was inclined to hang out under pressure in the run to the finish.
Race 5: Termite Solutions Sunshine Coast Class 3 H'cap - 1000m
1st – Craiglea Whizard 2nd – Krugerrand 3rd – Dewabbit 4th – Sweet Sassi
KRUGERRAND (D. Browne) and PLEASURE TIME (J. Taylor) were a little slow to begin.
Near the 600m, KRISALO got its head up when being eased away from heels.
Passing the 100m, the tiring CRYSTAL ROCKET (A. Spinks) was momentarily tightened for room by BIONIC ROCK (D. Griffin), which shifted in. D. Griffin, rider of BIONIC ROCK, was instructed to take greater measures to keep his mounts straight in future.
DEWABBIT (S. Katsidis) and LUNACAMPO (K. Sawyers) raced wide for the majority of the event.
DEWABBIT was found to have bled during the race, and in accordance with the Australian Rules of Racing DEWABBIT will incur the mandatory 3 months bar from racing.
A post-race veterinary examination of SWEET SASSI revealed the mare had sustained a minor laceration to the off hind pastern.
Race 6: Perry’s Hire Class 1 H'cap - 1200m
1st – Joint Chiefs 2nd – Trickett 3rd – Upupaway 4th – Sweet Science
SIR EMLAND (S. Katsidis) and DARTH (M. Hellyer) made heavy contact on jumping away.
DARTH, which jumped away awkwardly, was buffeted for some distance after the start between TIERMES (N. Thomas) and SIR EMLAND (S. Katsidis), which jumped inwards.
SWEET SCIENCE (L. Cassidy) and ORCHESTRAL STROM (O. Turpin) bumped on at least 2 occasions after the start.
Near the 1000m, SWEET SCIENCE (L. Cassidy) became unbalanced and had to be checked when racing in restricted room between FLOSS ‘N’ BOOTS (K. James), which shifted out slightly, and ORCHESTRAL STORM (O. Turpin), which shifted in and away from TRICKETT (D. Browne).
Passing the 800m, JOINT CHIEFS, which was overracing, was momentarily cramped for room by FLOSS ‘N’ BOOTS (K. James), which shifted in. When being corrected, FLOSS ‘N’ BOOTS had to be steadied off the heels of TRICKETT (D. Browne) and shifted out 3 wide.
Near the 500m, when racing ungenerously, JOINT CHIEFS shifted out, causing SIR EMLAND (S. Katsidis) to be tightened and make heavy contact with the hind quarters of ORCHESTRAL STORM (O. Turpin).
A post-race veterinary examination of HEARTSHAKER revealed the horse to be lame in the off foreleg. Trainer’s representative Miss M. Leitch, was informed that a veterinary clearance would be required before HEARTSHAKER races again.
Race 7: Pressurewise Class 1 H'cap - 1600m
1st –Altissimo 2nd – Craiglea King 3rd – World By Night 4th – Lucyrox
ALTISSIMO (M. Hellyer), LUCYROX (D. Browne) and WORLD BY NIGHT (C. Reith) all missed the start.
HOWGOODSTHAT (A. Spinks) was caught wide on the first turn and was obliged to race wide for the majority of the event.
Near the 800m, CRAIGLEA KING was inclined to pull hard and improved onto the heels of PRINCE TELESTO (B. Hull) and shifted out, taking CAPE SILVER (M. Cahill) wider on the track. A short distance later when CRAIGLEA KING left the rails, FEMME LIEN (O. Turpin) had to be checked when improving into a run where there was not sufficient room.
L. Appo, rider of CRAIGLEA KING, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding, in that near the 200m he permitted his mount to shift in when not sufficiently clear of FEMME LIEN, causing that horse to be checked. L. Appo was suspended from riding in races for a period of 7 meetings, to commence at midnight, 16 August and to expire at midnight, 28 August 2009.
Race 8: Action Real Estate Caloundra Open H'cap - 1200m
1st – Pelltro 2nd – Denmarket 3rd – Stolit 4th – Degenda
DRUMSHANBO (M. Speers) blundered on jumping away.
Shortly after the start, STOLIT (J. Kropp) shifted out and bumped the hind quarters of DEGENDA (K. Pope).
STOLIT was held up from rounding the home turn until leaving the 200m.
BLOW THE BUGLE (C. Reith) was caught 3 wide on the first turn and raced 3 wide for the majority of the event.
GENERAL PATTON, which bled from both nostrils, was examined by the club’s veterinary surgeon who advised that the horse was also suffering from atrial fibrillation. In accordance with the rules, GENERAL PATTON was barred from racing for a period of 3 months, and the horse must also pass an ECG and official barrier trail before racing again. Trainer B. Guy’s representative Mr D. Kelly, advised that the horse would now be retired.
Race 9: Thompson McNichol Lawyers Class 2 H'cap - 1400m
1st – Mr Nicholas 2nd – Golden Balls 3rd – Oh So Rosy 4th – In A Bind
GOLDEN BALLS (D. Browne) and KALINGA STEEL (T. Treichel) were slow to begin.
FAMOUS CRY (N. Thomas), DIVINEINTERVENTION (K. Sawyers) and GET GLOBAL (K. Pope) were all tightened for room on jumping away between IN A BIND (J. Taylor), which jumped away awkwardly, and OH SO ROSY (S. Katsidis), which shifted out.
On straightening, ARDMILAN (K. Gates) shifted out slightly, bumping DIVINEINTERVENTION (K. Sawyers). A short distance later, DIVINEINTERVENTION shifted in, tightening ARDMILAN.
Near the 300m, KALINGA STEEL was disappointed for a run between CASTIGLIONE KID (D. Griffin) and ARDMILAN when that horse was taken in by DIVINEINTERVENTION.
Approaching the finish line, GET GLOBAL (K. Pope) shifted out away from CASTIGLIONE KID (D. Griffin), tightening DIVINEINTERVENTION out on to FAMOUS CRY (N. Thomas) and MEAN MACHINE.
ARDMILAN, DIVINEINTERVENTION and FAMOUS CRY (N. Thomas) raced 3 wide for the majority of the race.
