Race 1: Caboolture Sports Soccer Club QTIS 3yo Maiden Plate - 1000m
1st – Gooniwiggal 2nd – Promo Girl 3rd – Moama 4th - Rioqualo
BONAFIDE RASCAL (K. James) jumped outwards at the start, making contact with RIOQUALO (P. Hammersley).
RUN RIVA (K. Sawyers), MYSTIC LEGEND (M. Wood) and ROYAL ARCH (S. Holcombe) were all slow to begin.
MOAMA (S. Seamer) began awkwardly.
Near the 600m, LOVE A SEQUALO (J. Letherby), which was racing ungenerously, was tightened for room between HUGGING (L. Rolls) and COCONUT LASS (M. Hughes), which was inclined to hang out. In this incident, LOVE A SEQUALO became awkward on the heels of HUGGING (L. Rolls) and blundered.
Passing the 500m, RUN RIVA had to be steadied to avoid the heels of MYSTIC LEGEND (M. Wood), which shifted in slightly.
App. K. James, rider of BONAFIDE RASCAL, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding, in that near the 300m she permitted her mount to shift out under pressure when insufficiently clear of LOVE A SEQUALO, which had to be checked to avoid the heels of BONAFIDE RASCAL. K. James was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 8 meetings, to commence at midnight, 13 September and to expire at midnight, 27 September 2009.
The saddle on ROYAL ARCH shifted forward shortly after the start, placing S. Holcombe at a disadvantage throughout the event. As a result of the saddle shifting, S. Holcombe dismounted after passing the winning post.
BONAFIDE RASCAL and RAGAZZA VELOCE (S. Kennedy) raced wide for the majority of the event.
Race 2: Maurice Blackburn Lawyers 4yo & Up Maiden H'cap - 1000m
1st – Better Let Loose 2nd – Nerangatang 3rd – Running Fox 4th – Maali
Stewards accepted the explanation from trainer J. Aitkenhead for the late declaration of rider for BLACK KATANA.
Trainer J. Aitkenhead was fined $100 for presenting BLACK KATANA to the enclosure with incorrect gear.
The start was delayed when SAINT LAURENT proved difficult to load. Trainer L. Gough was advised that a warning was being placed on the mare.
BAG THE PROFIT (M. Hellyer) began awkwardly and shifted out, making contact with MAALI (S. Katsidis).
SHEBEARNI (J. Taylor), which was slow to begin, was further inconvenienced by NOT DECLARED (C. Priest), which shifted out. SHEBEARNI then commenced to race ungenerously for a short distance thereafter.
Leaving the 500m, MAALI became awkward on the heels of BAG THE PROFIT, which commenced to lose ground and near the 450m shifted out to improve.
BLACK KATANA (C. Reith) and MISS IRONSIDE (A. Pattillo) raced wide for the majority of the event.
Race 3: Bribie Island, Caboolture & Maroochydore Rotary Clubs Class 1 H'cap – 1200m
1st – Patapinda 2nd – Another Heart 3rd – Upi Bay 4th – Gondola Girl
PATAPINDA (M. Hellyer) and GONDOLA GIRL (D. Browne) were tightened for room at the start between UPI BAY (M. Hughes) and HOTEL OF THE STARS (B. Stewart), both of which shifted ground.
GENERAL BIRDWOOD (S. Katsidis) jumped inwards at the start, making contact with TEDIKA (J. Kropp).
Shortly after the start, HOTEL OF THE STARS shifted in, making contact with GONDOLA GIRL. HOTEL OF THE STARS then commenced to overrace for a short distance thereafter.
ULTIMATE CHOICE (K. Sawyers) raced wide in the early stages.
Leaving the 700m, HOTEL OF THE STARS shifted wider on the track to improve.
GENERAL BIRDWOOD had difficulty obtaining clear running from leaving the 500m, and then leaving the 300m was disappointed for a run to the inside of TEDIKA (J. Kropp) and had to be steadied and shift out to obtain clear running.
Race 4: Forbes Chatham Maiden Plate – 1400m
1st – Mulsanne 2nd – Recurrent 3rd – Sunday Belle 4th – Magic Cashel
The start was delayed when HEZA GURU broke through the barriers, and after travelling some distance was declared a late scratching at 12.11 pm. Subsequent to the event all monies invested on HEZA GURU were ordered to be refunded with deductions of 12 cents in the dollar on the face value of win bets, 11 cents in the dollar on the face value of place bets. Trainer P. Duff was advised that he must provide 2 barrier certificates for HEZA GURU prior to its next race start.
BARMAZAL (D. Browne) and BEARHUG (I. Coombes) were both slow to begin.
LEYBURNS LAD (L. Rolls) began awkwardly and shifted in, bumping BRUBECK (C. Reith), which in turn shifted in abruptly despite the efforts of its rider, causing BARMAZAL (D. Browne) to clip that runners heels and blunder.
FLEISCHMANS ROCKET (S. Drake) was tightened for room at the start between MAGIC CASHEL (B. Stewart) and OUR GIRL GIGGLES (A. Spinks), both of which shifted ground.
Over the concluding stages, SUNDAY BELLE (M. Hughes) had a tendency to lay in under pressure, making contact with MAGIC CASHEL (B. Stewart).
SUNDAY BELLE (M. Hughes), MAGNIFICO (D. Griffin) and OUR GIRL GIGGLES (A. Spinks) raced wide for the majority of the event.
When questioned regarding the performance of BARMAZAL, D. Browne stated that after receiving interference shortly after the start the horse felt uncomfortable in its action and as a result he was reluctant to place the horse under any real pressure over the concluding stages. A post-race veterinary examination of BARMAZAL failed to reveal any significant abnormalities. In acknowledging the early interference suffered by the gelding, trainer W. Thornton undertook to report back to stewards any abnormality which may become evident in the days following the event.
Stewards inquired into the performance of BEAR HUG. Jockey I. Coombes explained that, in his opinion, the horse was looking for a longer distance in its races than that of today’s event. Trainer R. Bradshaw agreed with jockey Coombes assessment, adding that it was his intention for the gelding to be stepped up in distances longer than today’s event. Whilst acknowledging the explanations, Mr Bradshaw was advised that a warning would be placed on the horse regarding its competitiveness and its performances would be monitored at future TAB meetings.
A post-race veterinary examination of LITTLE BOBBY failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.
After riding in this race, D. Griffin was examined by the club’s doctor and stood down from his remaining engagements. Riding changes were made as per the Stewards Summary Sheet.
Race 5: Centenary Lakes Function Centre Class 1 H'cap - 1600m
1st – Be Glorious 2nd – Our Wave 3rd – World By Night 4th – Moringa’s King
BOS BOVIS was declared a late scratching on veterinary advice at 3.06 pm. All monies invested on BOS BOVIS were ordered to be refunded with deductions of 8 cents in the dollar on the face value of win and place bets made prior to 3.06 pm. Trainer T. Cotsiopoulos will be advised that she must provide a veterinary clearance for BOS BOVIS prior to its next race start.
HAMATYM (J. Kropp) and MORINGA’S KING (I. Coombes) were both slow to begin.
SHANAMIN (L. Cheshire) raced wide throughout.
When questioned regarding the performance of BLUE EGO, M. Wood stated that the horse was inclined to hang in throughout the event and shifted in, making heavy contact with the running rail near the 1400m and 800m, and then again between the 800m and 500m brushed the running rail on several occasions. M. Wood further stated that the horse failed to run on as anticipated when placed under pressure, and, in his opinion, proved disappointing. Trainer K. Davis stated that the horse would be sent for an immediate spell. A post-race veterinary examination of BLUE EGO revealed the horse to be showing soreness over the hind quarters. Trainer K. Davis was advised he must obtain a veterinary clearance for BLUE EGO prior to its next race start.
Race 6: Martin Jonkers Toyota Rotary Class 3 H'cap - 1200m
1st – Whimpy 2nd – Sweet Sassi 3rd – Ice Delight 4th – Clearly Vain
KAPATAROA was examined by the club's veterinary surgeon at the barriers and cleared to race.
SWEET SASSI (S. Katsidis) had difficulty obtaining clear running to the inside of CLEARLY VAIN (H. Hamada) from leaving the 400m until near the 200m where it had to be steadied and shift out to obtain clear running.
Both AULANI (J. Taylor) and TYCOON KEN (L. Cheshire) raced wide for the majority of the event.
A post-race veterinary examination of AULANI, which compounded in the home straight, failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.
Race 7: Caboolture Sports Club Open H'cap - 1200m
1st – Stolit 2nd – Ima Joker 3rd – Geebeetee 4th – Kanpeki
IMA JOKER lost its off fore plate whilst proceeding to the barriers, necessitating that horse having to be replated.
MAURIES PICK (K. Sawyers), KANPEKI (S. Katsidis) and IMA JOKER (J. Brown) were all slow to begin.
GEEBEETEE (C. Reith) jumped in the air at the start and lost ground.
STRIKING VICTORY (M. Hellyer), IMA JOKER (J. Brown) and CRAIGLEA WARRIOR (A. Kitson) raced wide for the majority of the event.
Race 8: Pacific Harbour Golf & Country Club Class 2 H'cap - 1400m
1st – Patmoss 2nd – Chi Chi Grande 3rd – Red Shadow 4th – Costner/Loaded Tycoon
MEAN MACHINE (S. Katsidis), ADADEMY PRIDE (M. Hellyer) and FEMME LIEN (J. Taylor) were all tightened for room between ARIZONA SUNSET (M. Radecker), which jumped outwards, and PATMOSS (M. Hughes), which shifted in shortly after the start. M. Hughes, rider of PATMOSS, was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.
BLOODHOUND (B. Pengelly) was slow to begin.
LOADED TYCOON (L. Cheshire) began awkwardly.
When being steadied in the early and middle stages, LOADED TYCOON had a tendency to throw its head in the air.
ARIZONA SUNSET (M. Radecker) was unable to obtain clear running from the 400m until the winning post.
CREDINGTON (C. Reith) raced wide for the majority of the event.
BLOODHOUND (B. Pengelly) had a tendency to lay in throughout the event.
When questioned regarding the improved performance of PATMOSS, trainer R. Bradshaw was unable to offer any explanation other the gelding was obliged to race wide and overraced at its previous start on 30 August.
