SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT
As L. Cumberland was indisposed, riding replacements were made as per the Stewards Race Day Summary.
Race 1: HOT 91.1 QTIS 2YO H’CAP - 1200m
1st – Daytime Dazzler 2nd – Silent Lake 3rd – Rose Of Tessie 4th – So Dominant
THROBBING (J. Stanley) was slow to begin.
Approaching the 1000m SECRET SCENE (A. Spinks), when racing greenly, shifted in and away from DAYTIME DAZZLER (G. Killen), resulting in THROBBING being tightened for room.
GEE WILLIKER (J. Kropp) raced three wide in the early stages to a point near the 600m.
SO DOMINANT (K. Pope) raced three wide throughout.
Near the 700m CARESSABLE ONE (Matthew Palmer) improved on to the heels of SWEET AND VICIOUS (K. Wharton) and had to be steadied. As a result ROSE OF TESSIE (O. Turpin), which was following, had to be restrained from the heels of CARESSABLE ONE.
J. Byrne stated that SILENT LAKE settled towards the rear of the field, which was consistent with its racing pattern when it was successful on 3 July, however when the tempo of the race slackened in the middle stages he was disadvantaged by this and added that the filly worked to the line strongly in the home straight.
Trainer C. Williamson was asked to explain the seemingly improved performance of DAYTIME DAZZLER. Mr Williamson stated that the gelding was suited by the drop back in class today from its most recent starts. He added that there was no specific instruction to G. Killen today to lead, but after beginning well and due to the slow tempo, the horse settled in this position without having to work.
A post-race veterinary examination of THROBBING, which trailed the field throughout and weakened over the final 400m, revealed no significant findings. Trainer P. Duff undertook to trial the gelding to the satisfaction of stewards prior to racing again.
Race 2: HAHN SUPER DRY 3.5 MAIDEN PLATE - 1000m
1st – Scar Tissue 2nd – Star Giggle 3rd – Nativity 4th – Captain Cooper
Apprentice T. Huxham was issued with a reprimand for presenting late to the mounting yard for his ride in Race 2.
The start of this race was delayed when I’LL BELT YA (A. Spinks) had to be resaddled upon arrival at the barriers.
CERVANCE (T. Bell) was slow to begin.
CHURCH LANE (S. Arnold) jumped away awkwardly.
NATIVITY (K. Pope) was hampered at the start by I’LL BELT YA, which shifted out. This resulted in K. Pope becoming unbalanced in the saddle.
CAPTAIN COOPER (B. Looker) raced extremely wide throughout.
CHURCH LANE commenced to hang out from the 700m and made the home turn very wide and proved difficult to ride. A post-race veterinary examination of CHURCH LANE revealed no significant findings. Trainer A. Jones was advised that CHURCH LANE must trial to the satisfaction of stewards prior to racing again.
STAR GIGGLE (Matthew Palmer) and COMBAT CUDDLES (K. Wharton) raced three wide throughout.
Approaching the 350m SCAR TISSUE (P. Keane) shifted out to improve, taking COMBAT CUDDLES out on to CAPTAIN COOPER.
Approaching the 300m RED SONJA (J. Byrne) shifted out and hampered CERVANCE, which was inclined to lay in under pressure.
Over the final 100m K. Pope was unable to ride his mount out in his normal manner as NATIVITY was inclined to hang out.
Apprentice T. Bell was provided with the opportunity of explaining the performance of CERVANCE. He stated that after being slow to begin the gelding never travelled comfortably and when placed under pressure in the home straight failed to finish the race off and was inclined to hang in. Trainer L. Gough could not offer any explanation for today’s performance and undertook to report to stewards anything that may become apparent in the coming days that would account for today’s run.
Race 3: YALUMBA WINES CLASS 6 PLATE - 1000m
1st – Warrior Girl 2nd – The Barracks 3rd – Tornadoes 4th – One Outed
Upon arrival at the track A. Pattillo was examined by the Club doctor and cleared to fulfil his engagements.
FASDEHERE (A. Pattillo) blundered at the start and shifted out resulting in THE BARRACKS (J. Stanley) being taken out on to WARRIOR GIRL (P. Keane) which was tightened for room between THE BARRACKS and CHASKI (G. Geran) which jumped awkwardly and shifted in.
ALL THAT (A. Spinks) raced three wide without cover throughout.
WARRIOR GIRL was unable to secure clear running in the early stages of the straight.
Following the running of this event the track was upgraded to GOOD 3 retrospective to Race 3.
As A. Spinks was stood down from further riding engagements by the Club doctor following his ride in this event, riding replacements were made as per the Stewards Race Day Summary.
Race 4: RCQ CONSTRUCTION CLASS 4 H’CAP - 1400m
1st – Lots Of Heart 2nd – Coroner 3rd – All The Queues 4th – Powerful Sphere
The start of this race was delayed when POWERFUL SPHERE (J. Hoopert) had to be resaddled upon arrival at the barriers.
Trainer T. Thomas advised that if circumstances permit STICKMAN (Matthew Palmer) would be ridden off the speed with cover. After beginning well and due to the lack of early speed, this resulted in STICKMAN holding the leading position.
ICE APPLE (N. Thomas) was slow to begin.
POWERFUL SPHERE raced three wide throughout.
Passing the 500m BOULDERS (T. Bell) was hampered when tightened for room by POWERFUL SPHERE which shifted in slightly. J. Hoopert, the rider of POWERFUL SPHERE, was issued with a severe reprimand.
Trainer B. Smith was asked to explain the seemingly improved performance of LOTS OF HEART compared to its most recent start. Mr Smith explained that on that occasion LOTS OF HEART met with interference at the start and it has improved in fitness since that performance.
Apprentice T. Bell was provided with the opportunity of explaining the performance of BOULDERS. T. Bell stated that he was instructed to settle in a forward position but after beginning awkwardly he was obliged to race three wide in the early stages and for this reason he elected to proceed forward to obtain the position outside of the leader near the 1100m. Apprentice Bell added that after suffering interference near the 500m BOULDERS seemed to lose confidence and was immediately under pressure and did not respond to his riding in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination of BOULDERS revealed no abnormalities.
Race 5: SKY RACING BENCHMARK 85 H’CAP - 1400m
1st – Silvern 2nd – Freton 3rd – In A Bind 4th – River Street
ILUVA QUEENSLANDER (K. Gates) overraced in the early and middle stages when racing three wide without cover.
FRETON (A. Pattillo) raced three wide throughout.
Trainer J. McLachlan attributed the improved performance of SILVERN (J. Byrne) today to the removal of the blinkers and the step up in distance. He added that SILVERN was suited by leading unchallenged.
D. Browne, the rider of IN A BIND, stated that he was disappointed with the gelding’s performance considering that it travelled comfortably outside of the leader and in the straight responded to his riding until the 200m and did not finish the race off as expected from that point. Trainer L. Richardson was also disappointed with the way the gelding finished the race off and added that IN A BIND may not have been suited to the slow tempo in the early and middle stages. He explained that it was his intention now to send the horse for a let-up and he would report in the coming days anything that may explain today’s performance.
K. Gates was asked to explain the riding tactics she employed on ILUVA QUEENSLANDER, which pulled hard during the early and middle stages in a three wide position. K. Gates explained that she had been instructed to ride the gelding with cover in a midfield position, however she was prevented from doing this when FRETON had improved to the inside of ILUVA QUEENSLANDER near the 1200m, which prevented her from being able to restrain and obtain cover. She added that due to these specific instructions to ride the horse in this manner, she was reluctant to allow the gelding to stride forward in an attempt to obtain the position outside of the leader SILVERN and as a result she was forced to race three wide without cover throughout. Stewards will interview trainer R. Bradshaw to confirm these instructions.
Race 6: REED PROPERTY GROUP MAIDEN H’CAP - 1400m
1st – Transporter 2nd – Gypsy Heart 3rd – Ma Royal Hiney 4th – Farmerwantsawife
BENJI BULLET (K. Pope) began very awkwardly and lost considerable ground. Trainer M. Mair was advised that he must obtain two further barrier certificates for BENJI BULLET prior to its next start.
SPUR POINT (S. Arnold) was slow to begin.
MASTER LAMBADA (K. Wharton) was tightened soon after the start between RAINS (P. Keane), which shifted out, and BELLADONNA DELAGO (M. Hellyer), which shifted in slightly.
AMISHEE BELLE (Matthew Palmer) overraced in the early stages when awkwardly placed at the heels of BODERY VAREMO (M. Gray).
TRISTYN (A. Pattillo) also overraced in the early stages.
RAINS, IMA GEM (O. Turpin), SPUR POINT, TRANSPORTER (T. Bell) and MA ROYAL HINEY (J. Byrne) raced wide throughout.
Near the 1100m GYPSY HEART (J. Stanley) had to be steadied when tightened for room by TRISTYN which initially shifted in and when being corrected by its rider shifted out and made heavy contact with AMISHEE BELLE, resulting in TRISTYN shifting back in abruptly. As a result of GYPSY HEART having to be steadied, MORATORIO (R. McMahon) and BELLADONNA DELAGO (M. Hellyer), which were following, had to be steadied.
J. Stanley, the rider of GYPSY HEART, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under AR. 137(a) in that near the 400m he permitted his mount to shift out when insufficiently clear of SPUR POINT, which was taken out on to the hind quarters of TRANSPORTER (T. Bell), resulting in TRANSPORTER shifting in slightly and SPUR POINT having to be checked. J. Stanley’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 7 meetings, to commence at midnight on Sunday, 31 July, and expire at midnight on Tuesday, 9 August 2011.
BELLADONNA DELAGO was inclined to lay out under pressure inside the final 200m and as a result approaching the 100m became awkward at the heels of RAINS. BELLADONNA DELAGO then shifted to the inside of that runner in order to improve.
Race 7: FRED PAYET RETIRING AFTER 26 YEARS CLASS 1 H’CAP - 1200m
1st – Little White Horse 2nd – Hi Jo Silver 3rd – Power Source 4th – Path To Freedom
MIDNITE RAID (N. Thomas) and ZED MAN (G. Killen) were slow to begin.
ANA ME CORI (O. Turpin) knuckled at the start.
AL CHICAGO (K. Gates), PATH TO FREEDOM (A. Pattillo), LITTLE WHITE HORSE (P. Keane), DEBZ REIGN (B. Looker) and BLACK TONI (K. Wharton) all raced wide throughout.
Approaching the 100m ZED MAN was obliged to alter course to the outside of the heels of AL CHICAGO in order to improve.
Rider D. Browne was provided with the opportunity of explaining the performance of PUBLICAN GEORGE. He explained that the gelding overraced in the early stages and the rise in class and increase in distance had an effect on the gelding’s overall performance. Stable representative Mrs D. Hansen shared the view that the failure of PUBLICAN GEORGE to relax in the lead had an effect on the gelding’s capacity to finish the race off. A post-race veterinary examination of PUBLICAN GEORGE revealed no abnormalities.
Race 8: CONTOUR CONSULTING ENGINEERS CLASS 1 H’CAP - 1600m
1st – Taira 2nd – Highland Mary 3rd – Harish 4th – Lady Fleming
Apprentice M. Wood was examined by the Club doctor upon arrival at the track and cleared to fulfil his engagement.
STEPHANOTIS (P. Keane) was slow to begin.
FAENZA (R. McMahon) made heavy contact with ROYAL CRUSADER (O. Turpin) at the start and lost ground.
SIR GRAHAME (J. Byrne) raced wide in the early stages before obtaining the lead passing the 800m.
CHEVALLUM PARK (K. Wharton), SHEOAK AVENUE (M. Gray), ALERTS (N. Yamada) and BUSY DOIN' NOTHIN' (A. Mundy) raced wide throughout.
Near the 800m HIGHLAND MARY (K. Pope) had to be eased when tightened for room between PRESIDENT (A. Pattillo) and FAENZA when that runner became awkward at the heels of HARISH (B. Looker) and shifted out slightly.
Passing the 600m LADY FLEMING (Matthew Palmer) shifted out, forcing ROYAL CRUSADER wider on the track. ALERTS and SHEOAK AVENUE, which were following, were inconvenienced and also taken wider.
Approaching the 400m TAIRA (M. Wood) shifted out to improve, resulting in HARISH (B. Looker) making contact with SHEOAK AVENUE. SHEOAK AVENUE shifted out further, resulting in HIGHLAND MARY, which had been disappointed for a run between SHEOAK AVENUE and BUSY DOIN' NOTHIN', having to be steadied. As a result, BUSY DOIN' NOTHIN' was taken wider on the track and CHEVALLUM PARK and JUSSA WOMANN (K. Fujii) were also hampered.
Near the 350m TAIRA was bumped on the hind quarters by FAENZA and as a result shifted out and made contact with HARISH.
