DE BOIS (N. Thomas) jumped away awkwardly.

Near the 900m, DE BOIS blundered.

Leaving the 300m, MAROON BELLS (G. Killen) shifted out in an attempt to obtain clear running and in doing so made contact with the hind quarters of DE BOIS. This caused DE BOIS to shift in and as a result MAROON BELLS was disappointed for a run and had to be steadied.

Approaching the 200m, N. Thomas, rider of DE BOIS, dropped his whip.

Race 2: Moos Baas & Oinks Quality Meats Class 3 H'cap – 1400m
1st – Comahni 2nd – Ceramic 3rd – Lots Of Heart 4th – It’s Wunderbar

Trainer T. Malseed will be interviewed regarding the late scratching of PAMPERED LASS at 7.50 am.

As A. Kitson was delayed after riding at the Gold Coast race meeting, T. Huxham was substituted as the rider of SIR LISTER.

As J. Fry was to be overweight, T. Bell was substituted as the rider of DOMRAS. J. Fry was fined $200.

MIO AMICO (D. McWhinney), which was slow to begin, was tightened for room at the start between SIR LISTER (T. Huxham) and CERAMIC (M. Wood), which jumped away awkwardly.

Leaving the 600m, CERAMIC became awkward when forced to race in restricted room between I’M BUSY (K. Wharton) and MIO AMICO.

Approaching the 200m, I’M BUSY was disappointed for a run between CERAMIC and DOMRAS (T. Bell), which was taken out by DASHING DUNLOP (K. Pope), which shifted out under pressure.

GONDOLA GIRL (G. Colless) was momentarily held up rounding the home turn.

GRANITY (O. Turpin) raced 4 wide throughout.

DOMRAS, SIR LISTER and ALL THE QUEUES (J. Kropp) all raced 3 wide throughout.

SWELL lost its near hind plate in running.

M. Wood, rider of CERAMIC, was reprimanded for raising his whip arm above shoulder height.

Stewards afforded K. Pope the opportunity to comment on the performance of DASHING DUNLOP. K. Pope stated that, in his opinion, the horse may have come to the end of its preparation and this may have had a bearing on tonight’s performance. Trainer’s representative Mr E. Petrie advised stewards that the horse would now be sent for a spell.

Race 3: King Of Knives Hospitality Direct Class 1 H'cap - 1200m
1st – Ten Seconds 2nd – My Quilter 3rd – We Made A Blu 4th – Sheer Echelon

PINCH HITTER and DIAMOND ACE were declared late scratchings at 5 pm and 6.15 pm respectively on veterinary advice.

LOST AT SEA (J. Taylor) began awkwardly and lost ground as a result.

SHEER ECHELON (G. Colless) hung out badly from the 800m onwards and raced wide from that point onwards.

Leaving the 400m, THEGREATANDTHEGOOD (T. Bell) and VISONA ROSE (E. Wilkinson) were both hampered when WE MADE A BLU (M. Palmer) shifted out under pressure despite the efforts of its rider.

Stewards sought an explanation from K. Pope regarding the below-market expectation performance of ALSHAIN. K. Pope stated he had been instructed to lead, however from the wide alley he was forced to significantly pressure the horse during the early stages to obtain a position outside the leader. He was of the opinion that this had a detrimental effect on the performance of ALSHAIN, which commenced to yield ground from the 400m. Trainer D. Williams agreed with jockey Pope’s assessment and confirmed his disappointment in the performance, adding that in light of tonight’s performance he would reassess the horse’s current preparation. A post-race veterinary examination of ALSHAIN failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.

Race 4: Ilvie Appliances Class 1 H'cap – 1800m
1st – Highland Mary 2nd – Heir Express 3rd – Faenza 4th - Rosanov

UNTOWARD was declared a late scratching at 5 pm on veterinary advice.

KONG KRISTIAN (O. Turpin) was slow to begin.

Near the 1200m, JUSSA WOMAN (M. Wood) improved up on to heels and had to be steadied and as a result shifted wider on the track and raced 3 wide from that point onwards.

Stewards sought an explanation from J. Taylor regarding the below-market expectation performance of CLONMACNOISE. He stated that it had been his intention to try and obtain a position just worse than midfield with cover if possible, however after travelling a short distance he was of the opinion that he would be caught wide so he elected to take hold and assume a position with cover at the tail of the field. J. Taylor stated that, in his opinion, the weight of 58 kilograms may have had a bearing on the performance, however he was extremely disappointed in the overall performance. Trainer Mr A. Jones was also at a loss to explain the performance which, in his opinion, was extremely disappointing, and undertook to advise stewards of any abnormality which becomes apparent that may have had a bearing on the performance. A post-race veterinary examination of CLONMACNOISE failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.

Stewards sought an explanation from Mr B. Smith, trainer of FAENZA, regarding the tactics adopted on that mare, in particular the reason for leading in tonight’s race, which was in contrast to its most recent starts. Mr Smith stated that at its most recent start the horse was positioned just behind the lead and prior to this it had been the intention to race in a forward position, however on both occasions FAENZA began awkwardly and lost ground. He also added that from barrier 1, and given the horse was starting at a distance more suitable, the rider was not forced to ride vigorously to obtain the lead. The explanation was accepted.

A post-race veterinary examination of ROSANOV revealed the horse to be lame near hind leg. Trainer B. Smith was advised that he would be required to provide a veterinary clearance for ROSANOV prior to its next race start.

A post-race veterinary examination of JUSSA WOMANN revealed the horse to be lame in the off foreleg. Trainer L. Treloar reported that in light of today’s performance the horse would be sent for an immediate spell. Mr Treloar will be advised that he would be required to provide a veterinary clearance for JUSSA WOMANN prior to its next race start.

Race 5: Harvey Norman Electrical Kawana CG&E Maiden Plate - 1400m

Approaching the 1200m, HARRISVILLE TOFF (R. McMahon) had to be steadied away from the heels of MOON LANDING (M. Gray), which shifted in. M. Gray, rider of MOON LANDING, was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.

HEART THROB (D. Missen) and STAY TIL DAWN (P. Schmidt) both overraced in the early stages of the race.

After leaving the 600m TAKEN (G. Colless) and HEART THROB both improved on to heels when held up for clear running and had to be steadied. HEART THROB was then unable to obtain clear running until approaching the 300m.

Leaving the 300m, KNIGHTS (D. Browne) shifted out under pressure, forcing KAHU SON (N. Thomas) wider on the track.

TICKLE ME ALMO (M. Johnston), KNIGHTS (D. Browne) and HUGH GO FAST (R. Hancock) all raced wide throughout.

Stewards afforded jockey D. Browne the opportunity to comment on the performance of KNIGHTS. He stated that the horse travelled well and he shifted wider on the track leaving the 600m to improve, however when placed under pressure in the straight, KNIGHTS raced greenly and proved disappointing in the run to the line. He added that, in his opinion, the horse would take improvement with race experience. Trainer Mr A. Jones advised he was not entirely disappointed with the performance of KNIGHTS and agreed the horse would take benefit from race experience.

Stewards also afforded jockey R. McMahon the opportunity to comment on the performance of HARRISVILLE TOFF. R. McMahon stated that shortly after entering the home straight the horse was left flatfooted when pressured and had a tendency to lay in, causing him to stop riding at a point near the 300m. He added that HARRISVILLE TOFF would be more suited to racing over longer distances.

The start was further delayed when SEARAYN proved difficult to load. Trainer D. Raffin was advised that he would be require to provide a barrier certificate for SEARAYN prior to its next race start. Mr Raffin advised that in light of tonight’s performance it would more than likely be his intention to send SEARAYN for a spell.

RIJEKA (B. Looker), MOUNTAIN OF GOLD (K. Wharton) were slow to begin.

NUTSEAS FASHION (S. Arnold) jumped away awkwardly, making contact with the hind quarters of ANNIE’S LOGIC (N. Thomas). S. Arnold, rider of NUTSEAS FASHION, was almost dislodged in this incident.

Connections will be advised that a veterinary clearance will be required for PRESIDENTIAL prior to its next race start.

SPUR POINT (C. Kearney) was tightened for room shortly after the start between WHAT ABOUT ME (D. Missen) and VENTURE ON (R. McMahon), both of which shifted ground.

Near the 1000m, WHAT ABOUT ME (D. Missen) had to be steadied when crowded for room to the inside of ENOUGH IS ENOUGH (Matthew Palmer), which shifted in.

When the pace slackened near the 900m ENOUGH IS ENOUGH and WHAT ABOUT ME both commenced to overrace, and at a point near the 850m, ENOUGH IS ENOUGH had to be checked and shifted out, forcing ATTACK (N. Thomas) out across the heels of PRECIOUS MANDY (J. Taylor), which caused both horses to lose ground.

Near the 700m WHAT ABOUT ME and VENTURE ON both became awkward when racing in restricted room to the inside of ATTACK.

DELANNIKA (J. Kropp) raced 4 wide throughout.

Near the 800m, NOT A DULL MOMENT , ROSELON (N. Thomas) and NORDSTROM (J. Taylor) were all hampered when racing to the outside of ZOZUQUALO (A.
