Passing the 900m, COUNTRY DIVA (M. Gray) attempted to buck for a short distance and as a result lost ground. A post-race veterinary examination of COUNTRY DIVA revealed the filly lame in the off foreleg. Trainer G. Burns was advised that COUNTRY DIVA must trial satisfactorily in an official trial and provide a veterinary clearance for the filly prior to its next race start.
EL DRAGO (M. Speers) raced greenly throughout and near the 800m was inclined to hang out and threw its head in the air. This resulted in CREDIT MISS being taken wider on the track.

Passing the 700m, FAST PASS, when racing greenly, was inconvenienced when tightened for room between LADY ISLES (A. Spinks) and JUST POKENALONG, which shifted out. G. Killen, rider of JUST POKENALONG, was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.
Near the 250m, LADY ISLES shifted out and away from JUST POKENALONG and bumped DADSAIDJETTA.

MR MAGICIAN was examined by the veterinary surgeon behind the barriers at the request of its rider and was subsequently declared a late scratching on veterinary advice at 1.52 pm when found to be lame in the near foreleg. JUST DANDY hung out for a major part of the race and proved difficult to ride. A post-race veterinary examination of JUST DANDY failed to reveal any significant abnormalities. Trainer R. McCall was advised that JUST DANDY would be required to perform in an official barrier trial prior to racing again. He also advised that following its last start the gelding had had some treatment for a possible chest muscle strain, and bearing in mind today’s performance it was his intention to spell JUST DANDY immediately. Stewards reminded Mr McCall of his obligations under AR140(c) to ensure that he reports anything which may have affected the running of a horse in a race.
Race 4: Reed Property Group Benchmark 75 H'cap - 2200m
1st – Billum 2nd – Clangor 3rd – Raunchy’s Warrior 4th – Two Times A Lady
BUNDEEBEAR (A. Pattillo) was slow to begin.
A. Pattillo was asked to explain the riding tactics adopted on BUNDEEBEAR in the middle stages where he made a 3 wide move from the rear of the field. Jockey Pattillo stated that the tempo of the race was fast in the early stages and then slowed noticeably near the 1200m. At this stage he was of the view that rather than trail behind BILLUM, which he felt was the horse to beat in the field and bearing in mind today’s racing pattern, he made the decision to shift wider on the track in an attempt to improve to the position outside the leader, and when CRAB POT commenced to weaken after passing the 1000m, he was obliged to shift 4 wide to improve around that runner. A. Pattillo added that as a result of shifting wider on the track BUNDEEBEAR was forced to race in an inferior section of the track and he was of the view that his had a bearing on the horse’s overall performance. A. Pattillo conceded that in hindsight it would have been a better option to remain trailing BILLUM approaching the 1200m. Stewards agreed with his assessment and were of the view he had erred in making a 3 wide move at that point of the race but were not comfortable that this error warranted any action being taken under the Rules of Racing.
A. Spinks, rider of CRAB POT, reported that after passing the 800m he was not satisfied with the action of the gelding and when CRAB POT began to weaken noticeably he made the decision to ease the horse out of the race. Jockey Spinks was also of the view that CRAB POT seemed to be making an abnormal respiratory noise and he retired the gelding from the race. A post-race veterinary examination of CRAB POT failed to reveal any significant abnormalities. CRAB POT lost both fore plates in running. Stable representative Mr B. Richardson was advised that CRAB POT must compete in an official barrier trial prior to racing again and a veterinary certificate of fitness must be submitted, together with the results of an endoscopic examination.
Race 5: XXXX Class 2 H'cap - 1000m
1st – Sarah’s Secret 2nd – Martika 3rd – Moicheia 4th – Prince Liam

MAGINNIS MAGEE (S. Drake) was slow to begin.
FELINE GREIGHT (D. Griffin) overraced in the early stages.
MAGINNIS MAGEE was held up for clear running rounding the home turn.
CROSS THE STAR and CONYUEN (K. Gates) raced 3 wide for the majority of the event.
Stewards will interview M. Speers regarding his whip use on UNTOWARD.
When questioned regarding the performance of CROSS THE STAR, apprentice jockey G. Goold explained he was able to obtain a trailing position behind HOME TO THE BRIDE (L. Rolls) for a short time near the 1200m, however FELINE GREIGHT commenced to overrace to his inside, forcing CROSS THE STAR wider on the track. He added that he was forced to race 3 wide for the remainder of the race which, in his view had an effect on the horse’s ability to finish the race off.
After passing the winning post FRAGAR broke down in the near foreleg and was subsequently euthanased on humane grounds.

Apprentice T. Harrison was cautioned regarding her standard of evidence presented at this inquiry.
Apprentice Wood also pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding, in that inside the final 100m he permitted his mount to shift out inside the final 100m when not clear of DARTH (D. Apprentice Wood was issued with a 7 meeting suspension, to be served concurrently with the 6 meeting suspension incurred in this race, and to commence at midnight, 15 April and to expire at midnight, 28 April. Following this, NEWLAND WARRIOR continued to shift out and bumped MODERN AL, which was taken out onto JUST ABOUT READY (G. Killen), which as a result became unbalanced.
SIR EMLAND commenced to lose ground from the 800m and compounded in the home straight and was beaten a considerable distance. A post-race veterinary examination of SIR EMLAND revealed the gelding to be suffering from respiratory distress. Trainer M. Land was advised that SIR EMLAND would be required to compete satisfactorily in an official trial and that he must provide a certificate of fitness for SIR EMLAND prior to the horse racing again.
In the home straight until approaching the 200m, LOVE THAT CHICK (R. Hancock) was unable to improve its position when awkwardly placed at the heels of BIG KEN THE CELT (T. Bell).
Trainer S. Thomas was advised that THROUGH THE WAVES (J. Hoopert), which compounded from the 600m and was beaten a considerable distance, would be ineligible to compete at provincial meetings until it can establish some consistent form in country areas.
S. Galloway reported that ST DARCI was inclined to lay in over the final 200m and added that he was hopeful of obtaining a run towards the inside in the home straight however near the 250m had to shift to the outside of JUST ABOUT READY (G. Killen) in order to improve which, in his opinion, resulted in his mount having to finish the race off in an inferior part of the track.

BERNERS LEE (A. Allen) jumped away awkwardly and shifted in, making heavy contact with MISTY WARRIOR (T. Bell), which in turn shifted in, tightening DAWN RETURN (M. Hellyer) on to the heels of DARLIN’ JULES (L. Cassidy).
Jockey G. Killen, rider of DIET, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding, in that leaving the 800m he permitted his mount to shift in when not sufficiently clear of MISTY WARRIOR, resulting in T. Bell having to take hold of MISTY WARRIOR to avoid the heels of DIET. G. Killen was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 7 meetings, to commence at midnight, 15 April and to expire at midnight, 26 April.
Approaching the 600m, DAWN RETURN hung out and became awkward at the heels of DIET (G. Killen) and as a result lost ground. IDLE JOKER (A. Pattillo), which was trailing, had to be checked to avoid the heels of DAWN RETURN and shifted out, resulting in SOCARADA (J. Byrne) and SAMMIE AMIE (T. Harrison) being taken wider on the track. In this incident, SIR PARAGON improved onto the heels of STALWART WOMAN (D. Griffin) and shifted out. UNANIMOUS DECISION, which was trailing, improved to the inside of SIR PARAGON where there was doubtful room and had to be steadied.
