GENERAL

RE: Sunshine Coast official trials Tuesday 2 October 2012

Stewards today inquired into the reason why Jockey K. Wharton was dislodged from his mount PATTIE’S DRAGON in Heat 6 at the Sunshine Coast official trials on Tuesday 2 October 2012. Mr Wharton explained that after passing the finish line and when applying pressure to restrain his mount at approximately the 1800m his off side iron broke resulting in him being dislodged. After hearing further submissions from Mr S. Watters, the trainer of PATTIE’S DRAGON, and on viewing the equipment used on the day, stewards could not be satisfied that the condition of the gear was unsatisfactory or unsafe and deemed the matter to be an unfortunate incident.

Race 1: XXXX SUMMER BRIGHT MAIDEN PLATE - 850m
1st – Williams Agenda 2nd – Little Audrey 3rd – Little Ish 4th – Pattie’s Dragon

RASHON (A. Badger) and LITTLE ISH (G. Killen) were slow to begin.

SHELOVESTOROCKET (K. Gates) began awkwardly.

WILLIAMS AGENDA (K. Wharton) was inclined to hang in in the early stages.

PATTIE’S DRAGON (A. Taylor) raced greenly for the majority of the event and proved difficult to ride out over the concluding stages.

Near the 500m RASHON hung out.

Race 2: HAHN SUPER DRY CLASS 4 H’CAP - 1200m
1st – Matabrahma 2nd – Expressway 3rd – Double Top 4th – Delforce

Stewards accepted the explanation tendered by trainer D. Jones for failing to declare J. Hoopert as the rider of DELFORCE by the prescribed time.

Apprentice T. Huxham was severely reprimanded for failing to present himself to the enclosure by the prescribed time.

The start of this race was delayed when EXPRESSWAY (K. Pope) shifted its off front plate and required farrier attention.

MATABRAHMA (T. Huxham) began awkwardly.

MOUNTED (A. Taylor) overraced in the early stages.

FAVEROCK (G. Killen) raced three wide for the majority of the event.

Race 3: CORONA CLASS 1 H’CAP – 1300m
1st – Denwood 2nd – The Blizzard 3rd – Irish Gig 4th – Oakfield Babe

CLONMACNOISE (L. Tarrant) began awkwardly.

When questioned regarding the performance of CLONMACNOISE, which performed below market expectation, trainer A. Jones stated that he was not entirely disappointed with the horse’s performance today, being its first run back from a spell, however was of the view that the horse would benefit from today’s outing. A post-race veterinary examination of CLONMACNOISE revealed no abnormalities.

Race 4: WWW.LENTRELOARRACING.COM.AU CLASS 1 H’CAP - 1600 m
1st – Bruntwood 2nd – Sosueme 3rd – Taystar 4th – Hot Edition

Shortly after the start SHIMAZU (K. Wharton) shifted in making contact with SOSUEME (D. Sparks).

HOT EDITION (J. Hoopert) overraced in the early and middle stages.

Near the 900m SOSUEME shifted out, bumping TAYSTAR (G. Killen).

D. Sparks, the rider of SOSUEME, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR. 137(a) in that near the 200m he permitted his mount to shift out whilst under pressure when attempting to gain clear running, resulting in HOT EDITION being tightened on to SHIMAZU, having to be checked and relinquishing its position. Jockey Sparks’ licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 8 meetings, to commence at midnight on Saturday, 10 November, and expire at midnight on 23 November 2012.

Race 5: BOQ CALOUNDRA (BANK OF QUEENSLAND) CLASS 1 HCP - 1000m
1st – Latin American 2nd – Emerton 3rd – Stalwart Anika 4th – Bazinsky

EMERTON (K. Pope) was slow to begin.

BAZINSKY (E. Wilkinson), which was slow to begin, jumped out at the start, made heavy contact with its outside barrier gate and lost considerable ground.

Approaching the 700m OCTAGONAL SPEED (G. Killen) shifted out, forcing MISS KAYDEE (A. Erhart) wider.

MISS KAYDEE raced wide for the majority of the event.

When questioned regarding the performance of OCTAGONAL SPEED, which finished tailed off, jockey G. Killen stated that the horse had abnormal breathing and also changed stride a number of times during the race and in his opinion may have been sore. A post-race veterinary examination of OCTAGONAL SPEED revealed the horse to be lame in the offside front knee and also to be displaying an abnormal respiratory noise. Trainer R. Hurley was advised that he must provide a veterinary clearance prior to OCTAGONAL SPEED being permitted to race or trial again and further that OCTAGONAL SPEED must perform to the satisfaction of stewards in a 1000m official barrier trial, and that the results of an endoscopic examination must be furnished to stewards before the horse is permitted to race again.
