Race 1: Sky Racing No. 1 In Racing Maiden H'cap – 1400m
ZANTARO was declared a late scratching at 9.30 am on veterinary advice.
FORT CONSTANTINE (A. Taylor) was slow to begin.
SUNDIATA FLYER (G. Goold) began awkwardly and shifted out, making contact with MORINGAS MO JO (A. Spinks), which was slow to begin.
FATHER SHADY (D. Browne) overraced approaching the 800m and had to be steadied from the heels of DEADLY DENNIS (K. Wharton).
When questioned regarding the performance of SUNDIATA FLYER, which compounded in the home straight, G. Goold stated the filly travelled well until challenged on straightening and from that point onwards failed to respond to his riding. Trainer D. Hansen advised that in view of today’s disappointing performance he would review the filly’s current preparation, and gave an undertaking to report to stewards any abnormality which becomes apparent in the coming days. A post-race veterinary examination of SUNDIATA FLYER failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.
Race 2: Sky Racing App Maiden H'cap - 1000m
DAYTIME HERO (B. Appo) began awkwardly and shifted in, tightening SHADY DEAL (L. Tarrant), which in turn shifted in making contact with PRETTY POLLYANNA (D. McWhinney).
Leaving the 800m, MY LTTLE MACHINE (G. Goold) shifted out, making contact with PRETTY POLLYANNA. A short distance later, MY LITTLE MACHINE again shifted out, making contact with PRETTY POLLYANNA, which in turn shifted out, bumping DAYTIME HERO.
R. McMahon, rider of STICK FIGHTER, dropped his whip near the 300m.
A post-race veterinary examination of STICK FIGHTER, which performed disappointingly, revealed the gelding to be suffering from cardiac arrhythmia. Trainer D. Hansen was advised that he would required to provide to stewards the results of a satisfactory ECG, and that STICK FIGHTER must compete satisfactory in an official barrier trial before being permitted to race again.
L. Tarrant, rider SHADY DEAL, pleaded guilty to a charge under AR 142, in that he failed to weigh in as the 3rd placegetter. L. Tarrant was fined the sum of $400.
Race 3: Qld Barrier Trials On Sky QTIS 2yo H'cap - 1000m
TASANI TOMSO which arrived late on course due to transportation difficulties was aexamined by the veterinary surgeon prior to the start and was cleared to start.
JERROCITY (S. Lanigan) began very awkwardly and lost considerable ground. Trainer’s representative Mr G. Green was advised that a warning would be placed on the barriers manners of JERROCITY. Mr Green advised stewards that consideration would be given to removing the cross-over noseband on JERROCITY for its next start.
Approaching the 400m, TISANI TOMASO (N. Tomizawa) became unbalanced and shifted in, making contact with TRESSLES (J. Johnson) on 2 occasions.
When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of TRESSLES, rider J. Johnson reported that the horse travelled well in the early and middle stages, and when asked for an effort on straightening only responded for a short distance and then commenced to compound and, in her opinion, was disappointing.
A post-race veterinary examination of TRESSLES failed to reveal any significant abnormalities. Trainer B. Guy will be interviewed regarding the performance of TRESSLES.
Race 4: Skysportsradio.com.au Class 2 H'cap - 1000m
As M. Speers was indisposed, A. Spinks was substituted as the rider of SHAZZLE PAZZLE.
SINE TIMORE (T. Bell) and WHO WILL (G. Goold) were tightened for room on jumping away between SHAZZLE PAZZLE (A. Spinks), which shifted out, and EMERTON (L. Tarrant), which shifted in. A short distance later, EMERTON again shifted in, resulting in SINE TIMORE and WHO WILL (G. Goold) again being tightened for room between SHAZZLE PAZZLE and that runner and as a consequence SINE TIMORE and WHO WILL both lost ground. At a subsequent inquiry, L. Tarrant, rider of EMERTON, was severely reprimanded and advised that a greater effort should be made in similar circumstances to prevent his mount from shifting in.
Near the 800m, SHEZA FALVELON (J. Byrne) had to be momentarily steadied when tightened for room between EMERTON, which shifted out slightly, and DENISON (D. Browne), which shifted in. Whilst stewards noted the racing manners of EMERTON, D. Browne, rider of DENISON was advised to exercise greater care when shifting ground in similar circumstances.
SHAZZLE PAZZLE lost its off fore plate in running.
Race 5: Sky Racing.TV Class 1 H'cap – 1200m
MELATTE (K. Wharton) shifted out at the start, making contact with AUGUSTE (A. Spinks).
As short distance later, VICTORVETO (R. McMahon) was tightened for room between AUGUSTE (A. Spinks) and SHA BEL LEI (P. Schmidt), which shifted in.
MADAM TRACY (B. Appo) commenced to shift out under pressure in the home straight and shifted out, making contact with VICTORVETO on a number of occasions.
B. Appo, rider of MADAM TRACY, reported that the horse had a tendency to lay out throughout the race.
Race 6: Sky Racing World BM80 H'cap - 1200m
DANEOMITE (L. Rolls) and FALLS CREEK (J. Byrne) came together on jumping away when both horses shifted ground.
DANEOMITE overraced in the early stages.
MATABRAHMA (R. McMahon) shifted in under pressure approaching the 100m brushing DANEOMITE (L. Rolls).
Race 7: Best Races Faces Class 1 H'cap – 1600m
Stewards have adjourned an inquiry into the reasons for S. Shield failing to fulfil his riding engagement on ONE LAST WHIFF, and further the late notification of T. Bell as the replacement rider for ONE LAST WHIFF.
ROYALTOWN ROAD (J. Byrne) was slow to begin.
When the pace slackened leaving the 1400m, MORTGAGE LIFTER (K. Wharton) commenced to overrace and had to be restrained from the heels of CONNOLLY (P. Schmidt).
WHO’S THAT CAT (B. Appo) overraced in the early stages.
Again near the 800m, MORTGAGE LIFTER improved on to the heels of CONNOLLY (P. Schmidt) and had to be steadied.
T. Bell, rider of ONE LAST WHIFF, explained to stewards that it was not his intention to lead on the mare, however as a result of the lack of pace he elected to shift wider on the track and take up the leading position.
Race 8: Racing Retro Class 4 H'cap – 1400m
POWER PLANT (L. Tarrant) began awkwardly and lost ground.
Near the 1200m, BEAUX STRATA (J. Byrne) shifted out and bumped STIGORI (B. Appo).
ROCK HUNTER (T. Bell) commenced to shift ground inwards and outwards on a number of occasions when placed under pressure in the home straight.
