Race 1: RCQ MAIDEN H’CAP - 1600m

SHOTOVER RIVER (A. Butler) raced wide in the early stages.

Race 2: HOT 91.1 CLASS 3 PLATE - 1600m

KEEPIN’ GRACE (L. Tarrant) and AMPHIBIOUS (G. Snowden) were slow to begin.

The saddle on HANNIBAL AD PORTAS (S. Apthorpe), which overraced in the early and middle stages, shifted forward near the 1200m and near the 1100m the horse shifted out and made heavy contact with SIPPIN’BUNDY (P. Schmidt). As a result of the saddle shifting forward, rider S. Apthorpe was placed at a disadvantage for the remainder of the event and in the home straight the horse was eased down.

CANNY BE FAMOUS (D. Browne) bled from both nostrils during the event. As this was the first occasion on which the horse has bled, it will be ineligible to start in races for 3 months and prior to resuming racing must perform satisfactorily in a gallop over 1000m in the presence of a steward.

Race 3: YALUMBA MAIDEN H’CAP - 1200m

MY BOY LUCKY (G. Goold) jumped out at the start making heavy contact with HEY HEY (E. Wilkinson), which in turn forced MI IDEA (D. Browne) out on to the hind quarters of MR DODO (L. Tarrant), which became unbalanced.

Near the 450m MY BOY LUCKY was hampered when CUBA LIBRE shifted out slightly.

Race 4: XXXX QTIS 3YO MAIDEN PLATE - 1200m

HOUSE OF STYLE (E. Wilkinson) was slow to begin.

KATIE WILL DO (T. Jeffries) raced three wide throughout.

ULTIMATE RUSH (R. Wiggins) was held up for clear running from the 500m and leaving the 400m was disappointed for a run where there was doubtful room between MIAMLEY (T. Bell) and COUNTRY COMMAND (L. Tarrant), obliging ULTIMATE RUSH to shift to the inside of the heels of COUNTRY COMMAND in order to improve.

ADVENTURE KING (K. Matheson) and BUCK JUMP BILLY (L. Cassidy) laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight.

Race 5: REED PROPERTY GROUP CLASS 1 H’CAP - 1000m

The start was delayed when PICKABEE (K. Matheson), which kicked out in the barrier stalls and got its off hind leg through the back partition, was inspected by the veterinary surgeon and declared a late scratching at 2.58 pm. Trainer C. Lavin was advised that PICKABEE must obtain a further barrier certificate before being permitted to race. Stewards ordered that all monies invested on PICKABEE be refunded, with the following deductions to apply to successful wagers:

45 cents in the dollar for the Win #8
33 cents in the dollar for place of winner #8
25 cents in the dollar for 2nd place #3
33 cents in the dollar for 3rd place #9

After MISS JACKSON (A. Coome) and MAGNETIC MISS (T. Bell) were both fractious in the barriers, a further delay to the start was caused when MISS JACKSON had to have its bridle refitted. Trainer G. Taylor was advised that MISS JACKSON must obtain a further barrier certificate prior to its next start.

MAGNETIC MISS was tightened for room at the start between MISS JACKSON and GRANDEUR KING (G. Killen), both of which shifted ground.

TAINO (M. Morris) was momentarily held up rounding the home turn.

A post-race veterinary examination of MAGNETIC MISS revealed no significant findings.

Race 6: SKY RACING CLASS 1 H’CAP - 1400m

MILLERSBURG (S. Apthorpe) began awkwardly, shifted out and made contact with DUBAI GEE EYE (C. Small).

When questioned regarding the performance of GREEN CASHMERE, rider L. Cassidy stated that the filly failed to respond to his riding from leaving the 600m and was disappointing, however he was further of the opinion that GREEN CASHMERE failed to handle today’s heavy track conditions. A post-race veterinary examination of GREEN CASHMERE revealed no abnormalities.

Race 7: BECOME A MEMBER OF SCTC CLASS 2 H’CAP - 1200m

Trainer S. Kendrick was fined $100 under LR. 67 for failing to declare M. Hellyer as the rider of SHEZA FALVELON by the prescribed time.

Correct weight was delayed to afford T. Bell, the rider the 3rd placegetter HOLD FOR RANSOM, the opportunity of viewing the stewards’ patrol footage to ascertain whether he had grounds to lodge an objection against 2nd placegetter SHEZA FALVELON (M. Hellyer) for interference in the home straight. After viewing the videos, jockey Bell indicated that he did not wish to proceed and correct weight was declared on the Judge’s placings.

THE CHEROKEE GREY (G. Snowden) shifted in at the start, making contact with STRATUMOTOR (B. Appo), resulting in both STRATUMOTOR and PUNTERS PRIDE (D. Browne) being taken inwards.

ROSEHIP (E. Wilkinson) shifted in at the start and made contact with HOLD FOR RANSOM (T. Bell).

SHEZA FALVELON began awkwardly.

SHEZA FALVELON raced wide throughout.

Near the 150m HOLD FOR RANSOM was inconvenienced when SHEZA FALVELON shifted out.

M. Hellyer, the rider of SHEZA FALVELON, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR. 137(a) in that near the 50m, whilst riding his mount along vigorously, he permitted it to shift in when not sufficiently clear of LITTLE ANTICS (A. Spinks), causing that runner to be checked to avoid the heels of SHEZA FALVELON, and being forced in on to KHAANTANTES (R. Wiggins), which in turn was taken in on to STRATUMOTOR, which were both hampered to varying degrees. M. Hellyer’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 7 meetings, to commence at midnight on Saturday 13 July and expire at midnight on Tuesday 23 July 2013.
