Race 1: Become A Member of SCTC Maiden H'cap – 1400m

MORINGAS MO JO (A. Spinks), which commenced to overrace after passing the 1200m, was ridden forward to assume the position outside the leader near the 800m.

A post-race veterinary examination of MORINGAS MO JO found the gelding to be lame in the near foreleg. Trainer D. Wilson was advised that a veterinary clearance would be required for MORINGAS MO JO prior to its next race start.

Race 2: Weddings At SCTC Maiden H'cap – 1000m

Trainer T. Cotsiopoulos was fined $100 for failing to supply the Thoroughbred Identification Card for MARYLAND. She was further advised that MARYLAND would not be permitted to start again until the registration papers for the horse were presented to stewards.

MARYLAND (A. Spinks) jumped away awkwardly and made contact with MAGARI’S DREAM (M. McKenzie).

Both HELEN OF STRADA (K. Wharton) and MY LITTLE MACHINE (G. Goold) were slow to begin.

Leaving the 400m, RIPPER NIPPER (A. Allen) shifted out and made contact with HELEN OF STRADA (K. Wharton).

Stewards questioned jockey A. Spinks regarding his riding of MARYLAND from the 400m onwards. Of particular concern to stewards was what appeared to be an apparent lack of vigour between the 400m and 200m, and the manner in which he rode MARYLAND out over the concluding stages. Jockey Spinks stated that after coming into contact with MY LITTLE MACHINE (G. Goold) prior to entering the home straight, MARYLAND became unbalanced and on the rain track, he was unable to fully pressure on the filly at that point as a result of this.

He further added that MARYLAND was not afforded clear running and, as a consequence, was obliged to shift out around the heels of HELEN OF STRADA near the 200m in an effort to gain clear running inside of MY LITTLE MACHINE. After considering the explanation of Spinks in relation to the filly in the early stages of the home straight where it had difficulty obtaining clear running, stewards noted his comments however jockey Spinks was advised that in relation to his vigour on MARYLAND over the concluding stages he should not leave himself open to question.

Race 3: RCQ QTIS 2yo H'cap – 1000m

Trainer D. Hansen was fined $200 for failing to scratch STORMY KATE CELLO by the prescribed time.

Correct weight was delayed to allow apprentice B. Appo to view of video footage of the start of the race to ascertain if PANDORA CHARM was afforded a fair start. After viewing the film and taking evidence from apprentice B. Appo and the starter Mr P. Briton, stewards found that as the start was effected, PANDORA CHARM became fractious in the barriers and as a result missed the start and lost significant ground. Stewards were satisfied the ground lost was as a result of the barrier manners of PANDORA CHARM and as such declared that filly a runner and correct weight was semaphored on the Judge’s placings. Trainer B. Baldwin was advised that PANDORA CHARM must pass a further barrier test before starting again.

Near the 700m, both LOADED AND READY (A Allen) and MY BLING (M McKenzie) were forced to race in restricted room and lost ground when racing to the inside of TAILWIND (M Tarrant), which shifted in. M Tarrant was reprimanded following an inquiry into this incident.

Race 4: Hot 91.1 Class 3 Plate - 1000m

EMERTON (L. Tarrant) jumped away awkwardly and made contact with the hind quarters of WHO WILL (M. Cahill), and then shifted out, bumping SINE TIMORE (G. Killen), which had been slow to begin.

Race 5: Yalumba Class 1 H'cap – 1600m

Correct weight on the race was delayed to allow B. Newport, rider of the 2nd placegetter to view the stewards patrol footage in the straight to ascertain if he had grounds to lodge a protest against the winner, KYZYLKUM being declared the winner. Subsequently, apprentice Newport elected not to proceed.

BELLADONNA DELAGO, which was slow to begin, then overraced during the early stages and at a point near the 1200m, shifted wider on the track and was ridden forward before taking up the lead at a point leaving the 800m. Shortly after this, A. Pattillo, rider of BELLADONNA DELAGO, steadied the pace. BOURGEOIS BABE (M. Cahill), which was following shifted out when not quite clear of TOUCH A STAR (L. Tarrant), forcing that horse to be steadied and shift wider on the track. M. Cahill, rider of BOURGEOIS BABE, was reprimanded for his actions in this incident.

Shortly after entering the home straight, ROCKLEA RAIDER (B. Newport) was disappointed for a run where there was insufficient room between BELLADONNA DELAGO and KYZYLKUM, which shifted out slightly.

ROCKLEA RAIDER and KYZYLKUM lost their near hind plates in running

Race 6: XXXX Class 2 H'cap - 1400m

VICTORVETO (E. Wilkinson) jumped away awkwardly and shifted out, hampering both RUSSOS DESTINY (A. Spinks) and MY MIRAGE (A. Pattillo).

Approaching the 800m, MY MIRAGE and ROUSSOS DESTINY were both tightened for room when racing to the inside of LUCK’S ON OUR SIDE (J. Hoopert), which shifted in.

HARD WORK (R. Jamieson) raced wide throughout.

A post-race veterinary examination of LAST BET revealed the horse to be lame in the off fore leg. Connections were advised that a veterinary clearance would be required for LAST BET prior to its next race start.

Race 7: Reed Property Group Class 1 H'cap – 1200m

NOBODY’S BOY, which raced on 13 July, was therefore scratched by trainer J. Lyons at 11.35 am. Mr Lyons was subsequently fined $400. In arriving at this penalty, stewards took into account the negligence exhibited by Mr Lyons regarding the matter.

A. Pattillo was examined by the doctor and stood down from his engagement on DADSAIDJETTA. J. Hoopert was substituted as the rider of that horse.

ON THE DECK (L. Tarrant) and STEERMAN (K. Wharton) were both slow to begin.

STEERMAN raced wide throughout and overraced in the early and middle stages.

Race 8: Sky Racing BM85 H'cap – 1200m

INDUBIOUS was declared a late scratching at 8.20 am on veterinary advice after the horse was found to have a high temperature.

On return to scale, G. Colless reported that GOLDEN CASH after enjoying a favourable run throughout the event, the colt proved disappointing when placed under pressure in the home straight.

MATABRAHMA (E. Wilkinson) was slow to begin.

OPAL OMBRA (M. Morris) raced wide throughout.

A. Allen, rider of NICKIERA, was reprimanded for using his whip in a forehand manner on 6 occasions prior to the 100m.

E. Wilkinson was afforded the opportunity to comment on the performance of MATABRAHMA. He stated that after being slow to begin the mare was under pressure to hold a position throughout the event and, in his opinion, the overall performance was disappointing. Trainer P. Jenkins advised stewards he was not entirely disappointed with the performance, and would now look to step the mare up over longer distances. A post race veterinary examination of MATABRAHMA failed to reveal any abnormality, and a swab sample was taken.
