WITH A FLURRY (T. Banks), which was slow to begin, was inconvenienced shortly after the start by GOJO MIMO (C. Munce), which jumped away awkwardly, making heavy contact with the barrier partition resulting in C. Munce, rider of GOJO MIMO making heavy contact with his right foot on the barrier gate.

He was unable to offer any further explanation for the performance. Trainer M. Park advised that in light of today’s performance he would send HEAVEN AND EARTH for a spell.

Stewards questioned G. Killen regarding the tactics adopted on TRY FOUR. Of concern to the stewards was the tactic to settle in the lead in today’s event which was in contrast to its only start. He advised that at its first start the gelding raced greenly and he had been instructed in today’s event to attempt to obtain cover if possible, however when racing wide without cover in the early stages he elected to allow TRY FOUR to improve to the position outside the lead in the middle stages. The explanation was noted.
Race 3: Caloundra Towing Class 2 H'cap – 1200m

D. McIntosh, rider of AIN’T GOING DOWN, was reprimanded for using his whip excessively in a backhand manner over the concluding stages.
Stewards questioned E. Wilkinson regarding the tactics adopted on LIKE THIS, which led in today’s event, which is in contrast to its established racing pattern. Having ridden the horse at its most recent start he was of the option that the horse may appreciate racing in a forward position and therefore from the wide alley he rode with vigour in the early stages, however LIKE THIS responded better than he had expected and raced greenly in the lead in the early stages. Trainer Mr G. Taylor advised stewards that it had not been his intention to lead and, in his opinion, the horse had not raced well when ridden in this fashion previously. Mr Taylor was advised that if it was not his intention to lead with LIKE THIS at the horse’s next race start he would be required to notify stewards of any tactical change.
M. Cahill reported that FELTRE raced greenly when placed under pressure in the home straight.
Stewards afforded M. Hellyer the opportunity to comment on the performance of MEADOW DREAMER. He stated that he was instructed to take up a position in the second half of the field, and in the early stages he was unable to secure a position close to the fence so he elected to restrain, resulting in him being positioned at the tail of the field leaving the 1000m. The filly then overraced when the pace slackened near the 800m and despite being under heavy pressure rounding the home turn, MEADOW DREAMER did not respond until the final 200m and, in his opinion, finished the race off fairly.
A post race veterinary examination of NICE TIME (M. Carson), which weakened badly, revealed no abnormalities.

MODERN AL (R. Ride) overraced in the middle stages.
LOUPETS (D. Missen) and STAY TIL DAWN (M. Hellyer) raced wide throughout.
ROUVRAY bled during the event. Connections were advised that ROUVRAY would be barred from racing for a period of 3 months.
Stewards sought an explanation from M. Hellyer regarding the disappointing performance of STAY TIL DAWN. Jockey Hellyer stated that despite being caught wide he was able to obtain cover, however the gelding did not finish the race off when placed under pressure and laid in in the home straight. He added that, in his opinion, STAY TIL DAWN may have come to the end of its preparation.
A post race veterinary examination of LOUPETS failed to reveal any significant abnormalities. Trainer D. Hansen subsequently advised stewards that the gelding would be retired.

Leaving the 400m, ALL FIVES was held up on the heels of the tiring LITTLE ELVIS (A. Allen) and as a result shifted out to secure clear running, inconveniencing SIRARDI (B. Stewart). B. Appo, rider of SIRARDI, was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.
