After hearing all evidence and viewing the race footage, it was established that ROYAL CHOICE shifted out around the heels of runners forward of it at this point, making heavy contact with STEPS TO STARDOM, which in turn became unbalanced and shifted out, making heavy contact with DEEKS, which was forced wider on the track. In view of the severe interference, stewards upheld the protest and correct weight was semaphored on the numbers: No. 6 – NIVALI - 1st No. 5 - MY LITTLE FLICKA – 2nd No. 12 - DOOM CITY DRAGON – 3rd NO. 10 - STEPS TO STARDOM – 4th No. 2 - ROYAL CHOICE – 5th.
